| 05/13/2001 | ADA’s New Ultra-Lightweight Products
Maybe you have heard about this Dutch company ADA, if not,
we just will tell they build the most light and expensive wheels in the
world: 955 g and 2950 Euros ( $2700 give or take a couple).
If that would be not enough, now they introduce a new range of hubs and
a freewheel body that redefined how light hubs can be and what is just impossible.
ADA 2000 hubs are available in Campagnolo and Shimano compatible versions.
They are very simple and extremely reliable, and are made only of certified
aircraft grade materials. The hubs can be serviced by hand and excellent
seals keep the grime out.
All this is very good, but there are other more hubs on the market that
have similar characteristics, so ADA has gone beyond. The new ADA hubs can
optionally mount the exclusive ceramic bearings typical from the Dutch brand.
These bearings are the latest approach to the idea of "erpetuum mobile".
Some professional racers bring hubs from their sponsors to ADA to change
their standard bearings for ceramic ones.
As for every ADA product, the weight seems impossible: 235-240 g, and 190
g optional for rear hub and 125 g and 80 g for front. This is not an error.
ADA already is building a very special freewheel that allows Shimano shifter
users to mount Campagnolo wheels with Shimano cogs so they are able to achieve
the best possible shifting performance. This freewheel keeps the average
quality of ADA’s products: It is made of certified Grade 5 titanium.
