| 02/22/2001 | Octalink, Shimano’s New Standard
Some
months ago, Truvativ, Race Face, Chris King and other prestigious companies
agreed in developing a splined type bottom bracket standard. A new design
would make it possible to combine components from different brands.
As a response to this, Shimano has patented its splined axle system under
the Octalink name. Shimano’s intention is to share this patent without any
cost with those manufactures deemed reliable by the Japanese company. The
current list of approved manufacturers are Cannondale, Profile, Specialized,
Trek, and Ritchey.
