| 06/15/2001 | New Lighter Frame MaterialBicycle Europe is reporting that the Dutch machine builders Stork in cooperation with the Technical University Delft have developed a composite material from aluminum filaments, glass fibre and an epoxy-like matrix. They have named this new material Glare and it was designed to be used in the construction of strong containers that would be used for explosive airfreight.
This material was developed from a request from the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to help eliminate the problems of transporting explosive materials via air. The material could be used in safety wear and possibly bicycle frames, taking the specific weight in account. As of yet the details on the price and availability is unknown. |
