Mountain Bikers: Rate Your StateThink mountain bicycling is better where you live than anywhere else in the United States? The 2001 IMBA Report Card is the chance to prove it. Mountain bikers everywhere will get to grade trail access in their home state this summer via an online poll at www.imba.com.
The Report Card is a second-year program designed by IMBA to provide an overview of mountain bike access across the U.S. In addition to a grade, each state's trail riding opportunities and challenges are summarized by short, additional descriptions. Grades are based on a number of factors: estimated miles of singletrack, land manager attitudes, relations with other trail user groups and the long-term outlook for mountain biking.
Online voting results combined with input from IMBA staff, state representatives and local mountain bike advocates will determine a state's final grade. The IMBA Report Card poll will be open for voting on the web from June 20 to August 1, with live minute-by-minute results. At the end of the polling period, IMBA will tally the results and provide a detailed analysis of mountain bike trail access in the U.S.
"It's important that the entire mountain bicycling community help determine grades for IMBA's report card," said IMBA executive director Tim Blumenthal. "The report card is a great tool for gauging advocacy progress, focusing attention on areas that need help, and recognizing places that lead the way in mountain bike trail access."
