Roll Your Own Blackout Today 7pm - 10pmJoin the thousands across the United States that are celebrating the Summer Soltice by turning off all their power in their houses from 7pm - 10pm. Participants from all East to West of the US and support has been indicated from Asian and European countries.

This simple action allows you to participate in a global protest of George W. Bush's energy and environmental policies. The rolling blackout is a time to turn off as much power as you can safely in your home during the hours of 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., no matter what your time zone is. It's a way for the international community to create a voluntary blackout that lets George W. Bush know you do not support his inaction.

For those of you who would like to take this opportunity to gather with family and friends to show community opposition to George W. Bush's energy and environmental plan for America, a few ideas are listed below. Remember though to turn your electricity off, if it's safe, before you head out!

Have a candlelight vigil in your community. Beside a roaring campfire, tell stories, share stories, concerns, reaffirm your commitment to help remove Bush from office or to donate more money to your favorite pro-democracy or environmental organization.

Take this opportunity to build a progressive coalition in your community. Charge for admission a story/joke/song/skit about Bush/Cheney and their policies of exploitation! Reserve a space for your group at a central location, a community park, and enjoy the time spent with one another. Register progressives to vote!

For those of you planning to stay home, you might consider these activities:
1) Spend some quiet time at home, reflecting, writing a letter to Congress telling your elected officials you oppose Bush's plan by candlelight.
2) Read stories by flashlight to your children.
3) Play a board game by candlelight.
4) Tell stories.
5) Have a barbecue in your own backyard with your family
