| 07/06/2001 | Internet Ready Trails in AustraliaThe state of Victoria in Australia announced that it will continue to open new rail trails throughout the state. Dozens of regional towns and cities are linked together by over 300 Kms of recently developed rail trails.
This rail line network is controlled by a state business enterprise named VicTrack. They are laying fiber optic cable along these routes for high speed data transmission. The rail trails may benefit greatly from this endeavor. One of the greatest threats for getting more routes established as rail trails has been loss of pieces of land along former lines.
The old iron ways may be gone from many parts of Victoria but could be replaced with a new technology which can help bring life and purpose to many small rural towns. Nearly 60% of users of these new recreational and tourism corridors are cyclists.www.bikeoz.com
