| 07/09/2001 | Pedals for Progress Recycle Bicycles in Washington DCEach year, Americans purchase more than 12 million new bikes and throw out 5 million old ones. Millions of neglected bikes gather dust in basements and garages. In response, Pedals for Progress is now accepting donations of old bicycles.
The bikes will be shipped to countries where they are badly needed and highly valued. Last year DC-area residents donated nearly 3,000 bicycles, which were shipped to Barbados, Ghana, Haiti, Honduras, and Panama.
PfP will continue to accept drop-offs in Arlington and the DC area and at selected volunteers’ homes through-out the summer.
