| 07/11/2001 | Computer Sciences Corporation IT Supplier for Tour de FranceComputer Sciences Corporation (CSC) today announced that it has signed a three-year contract to become the official information technology (IT) supplier to the Tour de France through 2003.
Under the terms of the agreement with Amaury Sport Organisation, owner of the Tour de France race, CSC will work with the Tour to determine its long-term IT goals for supporting the annual race. CSC will then supply a range of customized IT services, which will be implemented starting with next year's race.
"We look forward to working with the Tour de France to help maximize the organization's operations by delivering the same best practices and skills we bring to all client engagements," said Mike Laphen, president of CSC's European operations. "The Tour de France is one of the world's premier sporting events. This agreement will demonstrate CSC's ability to meet challenging and diverse IT needs."
This agreement is not CSC's first venture into international professional cycling. In December 2000, CSC entered into a three-year sponsorship of Team CSC Tiscali, an international team that is currently ranked among the best in the world. The team manager is 1996 Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis, and the team's star rider is Laurent Jalabert of France, who holds more than 100 international victories.www.csc.com
