07/16/2001
Shimano Supports Signature of Kyoto ProtocolBesides being a major actor on the racing field, both on Mountain Biking and Road Racing, Shimano is also a strong supporter for an environmentally friendly world.

Protection of environment is a constant challenge inside Shimano Team. Their involvement already started years ago when former President Yoshizo Shimano announced the management decision in order to produce components with the lowest possible number of defects (6-Sigma). This economical target has also the aim to limit the waste in order to protect the environment.

But Shimano also cares for non-production facilities (commercial offices) and started a project of paper usage reduced by 20% in order to match the ISO-14000 norm.

Today Shimano starts supporting the organization e-mission 55 that will call this month on the governments of the world to ensure the entry into force of the Kyoto Protocol.

The Role of e-mission 55 : Goals International framework for climate protection
International rules enable level playing field for international competitors Rapid ratification of Kyoto Protocol
Kyoto Protocol has to be effective starting 2002
Paving the way for innovation, it means an adequate market mechanisms for climate protection
Emissions trading
Joint Implementation
Clean Development Mechanism

Shimano calls on the governments of the world to ensure the entry into force no later than 2002 of the Kyoto Protocol. This will require ratification of the Protocol by at least 55 countries responsible for 55% of the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from industrialized countries." Shimano Europe signed and subscribed to the e-mission 55 lobby in order to make sure that the world will be as respected as it deserves.

Shimano would appreciate you would also give your support to this organization. "
