| 07/16/2001 | Wrench Science, a company that is raising the bar for how bicycles are built and sold, last week announced it has launched an online, build-to-order mountain bike store, located at www.wrenchscience.com. The Mountain Store enables customers to build their mountain bike with best-of-breed frames and components, tailored specifically to suit their physique, riding style and personal preferences. The Mountain Store joins Wrench Science's Road Store on the company's Web site, which launched in Feb. 2001, to a warm welcome from customers and manufacturers alike.
The new store includes a full range of mountain bikes, including hard-tail, soft-tail, full suspension and single speed. The site features bicycle frames from more than 70 different manufactures, including Intense, Moots, Ibis, Titus, Ellsworth, Ventana, and Turner, in addition to thousands of top brand components and parts from companies such as Shimano, Rock Shox, Sram, Hayes, Marzocchi, Mavic, and Easton. The site is built with WS Logic*, a patent pending, easy-to-use configuration software that eliminates component compatibility problems, which was developed by Wrench Science.
"With thousands of component compatibility issues in the mountain bike market, building a custom mountain bike was no small undertaking - until now," said Tim Medina, CEO and founder of Wrench Science. "We've essentially created an Internet-based design tool that is revolutionizing how people build and buy bikes, regardless of their mechanical expertise or knowledge of bicycle frames and components currently on the market." With more than one million possible configurations of bicycle frames and components, Wrench Science's easy-to-use interface enables customers to build a complete bicycle in eight steps, presenting only compatible components to users through the entire process. Wrench Science also offers an online sizing system to ensure a perfect fit, which when used, offers only products that will fit the customer's measurements.
"The key benefit of Wrench Science is that customers can take their time building their own dream bike without having to worry about parts compatibility and aggressive sales people," said Fred Rodriguez, 2000 and 2001 USPRO Champion, and Wrench Science spokesperson. "Wrench Science is providing a solid solution for an underserved market of cyclists who want custom-built, top-of-the-line bicycles that are built and backed by professionals."
Wrench Science's Web presence is backed by the Wrench Science pro shop, located in Berkeley, Calif., which builds and tests the bicycles in accordance to exacting standards, and then ships the completed bike to the customer in 10 to 14 days. Wrench Science's staff of experts is always available to help customers through the building and buying process through phone, e-mail or in-person contact.
