| 03/09/2001 | More Drug TestingLance Armstrong's U.S. Postal Service team is willing to release its blood samples to French authorities investigating possible drug use during last years Tour de France. U.S. spokesman Dan Osimpow said that the team had nothing to hide.
Both Lance and his team have repeatedly denied taking any illegal substances, and U.S. Postal Service officials have said the team respects anti-drug rules. This statement came in response to a request by a French judge who was having trouble getting the samples from cycling's government body (UCI) in Switzerland.
The UCI keeps the samples after the race for research with the riders' consent and on the condition their identity be kept secret. Only the UCI has the codes allowing the owner of each sample to be identified. The UCI was waiting until the US Postal team gave ites consent before releasing the codes to French authorities. |
