Stefan Van Dijk, from Team Bankgiroloterij, won stage one of the Tour of the Netherlands. Van Dijk defeated fellow dutchman Tristan Hoffman, of CSC-Tiscali and italian Ivan Quaranta of Alessio in a field sprint.

Stage 1: Barbezieux to Marennes, 177 km.
Three riders went on the escape today, with recent Tour de France star Jens Voight failing to win the stage but capturing the overall lead of the Tour de Poitou. The stage was by Ivailo Gabrovski from Jean Delatour on a two-man sprint vs. Voight while the third man of the breakway, Jurgen Guns from Belgium faded and finished 9 seconds
behind the winning duo.
