PANTANI TO GO ON WITHOUT MARTINELLI: Giuseppi Martinelli, who oversaw Marco Pantani's rise and fall over the last several years as Mercatone Uno Team Manager will be officially let go by the team at the end of the season. A statement from the team today also announced today that Alessandro Gianelli will be directing the team in the upcoming Tour of Spain.
CIPO TO LEAD TEAM ACQUA E SAPONE: Current team Cantina Tollo is getting set for a major face-lift after the season as it prepares to swipe leaders with Team Saeco. While Mario Cipollini has now confirmed his move to lead the retooled outfit which will also feature new recruits Giovani Lombardi and Mario Sciera, previous distinguished members of the Lion's locomotive. Danilo Di Luca, current star for Cantina Tollo is said to joining Saeco for next season.
VIRENQUE LOOKS AHEAD TO THE WORLD: In a move that may not please his new employer, Richard Virenque today declared to have limited ambitions for the upcoming Tour of Spain and stated the fact he will utilize the race in order to prepare for the World Championships in Lisbon. Virenque hopes to co-captain the French selection with Laurent Jalabert.
