On September 15 and 16 2001 The European Championships will be held on and around the Island Neeltje Jans which is the center of the Dutch Delta works in Zeeland. The previous European Championships in ’99 and 2000 have been a great success.

This year’s edition has a race class and a tour class. The race class will ride 4 disciplines: a criterion over 14 km, sprints (500 m), one hour time trial and a 80 km long distance race. This balanced combination of sprints and distance races ensures the most all-round row cyclist will win.

The tour class will perform 2 tours, one of 50 km on Saturday and a 70 km ride which starts together with the race class on Sunday. The start signal on Sunday’s long distance will be given by a representative of sponsor Roompot Recreatie Beheer b.v..

54 Row cyclists out of 4 countries will participate in this event. Row cycling is a rather unknown but very spectacular, healthy and fast sport in which you use every muscle of your body and you can have immense FUN.

The rowingbike is a recumbent bike that is propelled by a rowing movement. So while both legs push the pedals forward the steering bar is pulled backward. A unique detail of the rowingbike is its propulsion: not by a chain but by a steel cable that rolls on and off the "Snek" that replaces the sprocket wheels.

The rowingbike is an ideal fitness machine, a fine means of transportation and a lot of FUN!!
