Ride a friendly
“invasion” of French Canada, May 2001
A group of cyclists in Quebec have organized
a ride from Boston to Quebec City under the auspices of the Societe Geo-Histoire
de Quebec, and led by Thierry de Brouwer.
The Quebec cyclists will arrive by bus on May 18 and spend
May 19 sight-seeing in Boston. The ride will leave on the morning of May
20 and will re-create the route taken on an early invasion of Canada over
200 years ago. Six days later the group will reach Quebec City. May 27
will be spent visiting this historic city, and Boston-area riders will
return to Boston by bus on May 28.
The ride will be sag-supported, will have mechanics for on-the-spot repairs,
and will have a van to transport luggage. A variety of activities are
planned, including cookouts, a dance, visits to historic sites and meetings/lunch
with town leaders en route. Overnights will be motels, inns and school
gymnasiums. The cost is projected at $450 (Cdn), which is approximately
$306 US. Daily routes vary from 40 to 80 miles.
