| 09/23/2001 | Kryptonite To Auction Limited Edition NY Lock at InterbikeKryptonite Corporation, the premier provider of security protection products, has created a limited edition USA version of its famous New York Lock. The red, white and blue lock will be available for purchase at the upcoming Interbike tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 300 locks will be numbered. Numbers 1-10 will be auctioned at the Kryptonite booth. All proceeds from the sale of these special locks will go to the International Association of Firefighters in honor of the New York firefighters whose lives were lost in the September 11 tragedy.
“Kryptonite has created this limited edition lock as a symbol of the toughness of the American spirit,” said Gary S. Furst, president of Kryptonite. “Like most people worldwide, the Kryptonite family was deeply affected by the tragedies of September 11th. Creating this commemorative USA Lock is meant to honor and, in a small way, help some of the people this tragedy has touched the most.”
Kryptonite’s flagship lock, the New York 3000, will have a decidedly patriotic look with a blue shackle and red and white crossbar. The traditional New York Lock logo of the Manhattan skyline outline, with the World Trade Center towers is on the crossbar. The company will continue to keep this skyline on all of its New York 3000 locks.
The special locks will be sold at the Kryptonite booth. Those purchasing locks can pay with cash, checks, Master Card, Visa, Discover Cards or American Express. The lock will be $80 and, because of expected high demand, there will be a limit of one per person. Exhibitors and dealers alike will be allowed to buy the locks while supplies last.
“We have had such a tremendous response to this idea from people in the bicycle industry, including some who wanted to pre-buy lock #1 even at a higher cost,” continued Furst. “Kryptonite saw this as an opportunity to raise even more funds for the International Association of Firefighters by auctioning the first ten numbered locks.”
The open auction for the first 10 numbered locks will start bidding as soon as the show opens on Sunday, September 30th and run through 2pm Wednesday, October 3rd at the Kryptonite booth. The opening bid on these locks will be $80. Delivery of the commemorative locks will be in December. 100% of Proceeds from Special Bike Lock Sales to Benefit Firefighters Fund.
The New York USA Lock
The New York 3000 features the “crossbar over crossbar” construction, which is Kryptonite’s hardened Kryptonium® steel sleeve over the crossbar, providing superior security protection. The crossbar design combined with the PikSafe, anti-pick disc style cylinder provides the greatest defense against most common forms of lock picking or attack. Its 5/8” shackle defeats thieves thinking it will be easy to cut through this part of the lock with bolt cutters, saws, hammers or any other common tool.
The USA Lock can be seen at Interbike in the Kryptonite booth, number 3321. It can also be seen at the booths participating in the Kryptonite Treasure Hunt. The lock can only be purchased in the Kryptonite booth. There will be no pre-show sales.
