| 03/21/2001 | Javier Otxoa Comes out of ComaThe Spanish professional cyclists, Javier Otxoa, has opened his eyes for the first time since the accident last month that left him in a coma and killed his twin brother Ricardo. He has also begun to move both arms and has shown an improvement in his level of consciousness, the report said, quoting a statement from the Carlos Haya hospital in Malaga.
Despite the improvement, the hospital stressed he remained in a serious condition. Otxoa has been in a coma since the accident February 15, when both Kelme cyclists were hit by a car while training on a road near Malaga. Ricardo was killed, while Javier, a stage winner in the 2000 Tour de France, was left in a profound coma after suffering multiple injuries. |
