| 10/15/2001 | California Governor Gray Davis has signed Safe Routes to School legislation extending the popular statewide program for three years. It should provide some $70,000,000 over the next three years for new sidewalks, bike lanes, trails and other projects to encourage students to walk or bike to school.
"It's wonderful to see Governor Davis recognize that Safe Routes to School is a smart investment in the future of this great state," said Chris Morfas, executive director of the California Bicycle Coalition, a co-sponsor of the bill with the Surface Transportation Policy Project.www.bikeleague.org
