| 10/30/2001 | Klein Bicycles will move its manufacturing division to Waterloo, Wisconsin this winter, said parent company Trek in a press release dated October 30. Trek reports the move is designed to improve efficiency and decrease production lead times.
The move is said to be "part of an overall Klein strategy to: 1) make the product line more competitive; 2) reduce lead times to better serve customers; and 3) prepare for an exciting 2003 product line manufactured in Waterloo."
Klein's manufacturing division is the only part of the company still at its original Chehalis, Washington headquarters. Marketing, graphic design and most engineering positions are already at Trek's Waterloo headquarters.
All current Klein employees in Chehalis will be offered the opportunity to move to Waterloo. Company founder and CEO Gary Klein will reportedly stay in Chehalis where he will continue to design bikes and test prototypes.
Trek has owned Klein since 1995.www.kleinbikes.com
