Aprilia's New Electric Bikes

03/24/2001
Aprilia's New Electric BikesAprilia is one of the most acknowleged racing motorcycle manufactures, having won some world championships.

Now they will add an electric bicycle range to their vast motorcycle catalogue. Their name is ENJOY. These bicycles follow the path open by the company right from its start: interpreting all the specific demands of mobility, creating new points of reference, interpreting new trends, anticipating styles and providing a precise response to the needs of millions of people.
Aprilia in an Italian company, and Italy is one of the most concerned about enviroment countries. They also are trying to keep their rich monumental national heritage, so many of the cities have restricted the traffic of particular automobiles.

The new Aprilia Enjoy is an alternative to conventional and electric scooters, and provides a plus of comfort and mobility to the only human powered bicycles.

The Enjoy adds power to each pedal stroke, but never substitutes it. Its nickel metal hydrate battery guarantees a range of more than 40 kilometres (depending on the programme used – Normal, Economy or Uphill – the riding style, the slope and traffic conditions). Recharging is simple and quick. It takes just three and a half hours to regain the energy it takes to tackle hills and trips.
The design is the strong point of this electric bicycle. Aprilia has invested both creativity and research to give the product a strong and exclusive character.

The Aprilia ENJOY immediately communicates the sports vocation of the company, particularly through the clearly motorcycle inspired frame.

There are two versions of the Aprilia ENJOY, the Racing version and the City version, both with an attractive tubular aluminum frame.

One of the most interesting technical features of these bikes is the programe controler. The bike automatically fits the needs of the rider: The speed sensor monitoring the speed of the pedal stroke and the torque sensor monitoring the force exerted on the pedals by the user send the data to the microprocessor which computes them in real time, flanking the pedal action with the motor to boost the effort made when moving away, during a sprint, when overtaking or when going uphill.

The controller provides three programmes, selectable from the handlebars with a practical control: Economy, Normal and Uphill. And you can also deactivate the controller, using the Aprilia ENJOY as a normal bicycle. Even in this function it is easy and enjoyable to pedal, particularly in medium gears.

The Aprilia ENJOY weights 29 kg (64 lbs) in the Racing version and 31 kg (68 lbs) in the City version.

Why not to try these cycles when even Indurain has been glad to ride them!
