| 11/13/2001 | Shimano American Corporation is pleased to announce that it has received ISO 14001 certification after review and audit by National Quality Assurance, USA, (NQA, USA) an accredited registrar that performs assessments of environmental systems for standards of quality.
ISO 14001 is an environmental management system within a corporation. This level of certification is overseen by top management and takes into account all activities of the corporation with environmental implications. ISO 14001 also provides an outline for continued improvement.
"Shimano American Corporation's achievement of ISO 14001 certification is the first step of a global business initiative." said Kozo Shimano, President of Shimano American Corporation. "We believe in corporate accountability as much of what we do at Shimano is best enjoyed in the natural environment. Our team will continue to make commitments on every level to promote the ideals of our environmental policy and those established by ISO14001." Shimano added.
Business Development Officer for NQA, USA Gary Thompson commented on Shimano American Corporation's "strong belief" in the principles of ISO14001. "Shimano American is now able to proudly display its ISO 14001 certificate. This is tangible evidence of their commitment to superior environmental control." he added.
Shimano has long been the industry standard for high quality, durable recreational products and sees the need for a system to monitor and measure activities with environmental impact. Shimano now sets the industry standard in environmentalism, hoping corporations industry wide will follow suit.www.shimano.com
