| 01/23/2002 | AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) and Pallotta Teamworks, originator and producer of California AIDSRide, today announced the lead beneficiaries of California AIDSRide 9. For the first time ever, California AIDSRide will benefit HIV/AIDS charities throughout California, opening up funding to an array of agencies that serve communities disproportionately impacted by the epidemic.
Since 1994, California AIDSRiders have netted over $40 million for HIV/AIDS charities. More than 15,000 riders have experienced the 7-day, 575-mile trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Steve Bennett, President of Pallotta Teamworks, said, "Thanks to APLA, California AIDSRide 9 participants will impact HIV/AIDS agencies all over the state. We are excited about working with APLA to provide the thousands of riders who have dedicated themselves to this cause with a ride that they will never forget."
Craig E. Thompson, Executive Director of APLA added, "This ride will fund critical services for men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS from the Bay Area to San Diego and Los Angeles to Sacramento. This is truly California AIDSRide."
