| 07/10/2002 | Clif Bar Inc. announced today its most significant grassroots support to date of mountain biking, nearly doubling its 2001 involvement in the sport. The company is supporting 13 state series in 2002 and assisting five regional teams with travel costs and race fees, in addition to sustaining support of other grassroots mountain bike events and athletes around the country as it did in 2001.
Among the regional teams receiving Clif Bar Inc. support are XXX Racing-CLIF BAR of Chicago, Supergo.com/CLIF BAR out of San Diego and Rad Racing Northwest, of Seattle. Clif Bar Inc. also supports hundreds of individual mountain bike athletes across the country, including riders on many local clubs and teams. Athletes receive Clif products, gear and event entry assistance.
In addition, Clif Bar Inc. continues its support of more than 150 grassroots mountain bike events nationwide, including the 24 Hour Series by Granny Gear Productions in Snowshoe (held June 27-30), Tahoe (August 22-25), and Moab (October 10-13). Event participants receive CLIFÒBAR energy bars, including the new CLIF®BAR ICE SERIES™, and CLIF®SHOT energy gel.
While strengthening its longtime grassroots support of local and regional riders and events, Clif Bar Inc. is also maintaining a strong presence this year at the marquis level of the mountain bike scene. In February, the company introduced its LUNA®Ò Women's Mountain Bike team, whose roster includes world champion Alison Dunlap. Currently competing in the NORBA (NCS) Series, the team will also race at select international races. Complementing the LUNA Women's Mountain Bike team is the LUNA CHIX™ Ambassador team, which raises awareness and funding for The Breast Cancer Fund while also competing at select races.
