| 08/29/2002 | Kryptonite, a brand in Ingersoll-Rand’s Security and Safety Americas Sector portable security business unit, has announced its sponsorship of the 10th Annual Cycle Messenger World Championships (CMWC) to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark August 29 – September 1, 2002. Kryptonite also sponsored messenger events, Glasgopoloco and European Cycle Messenger Championships earlier this year as events leading to the CMWC.

In the ten year history of the CMWC Kryptonite has been a loyal and generous sponsor. The cycle messenger community has always worked closely with Kryptonite and we hope that relationship continues into the future."
Kryptonite is providing the 10th CMWC with more than 15 of its premier locks as prizes for a variety of events which include the bunny hop, sprints and cargo races. Winners will be receiving the New York Chain and Molly Lock or the globally popular EV Mini. The four-day event will be held at Copetown, the old naval area. The event is expected to draw over 2,500 participants and spectators throughout the weekend who will see Kryptonite’s presence at checkpoints around the course as well as on collateral materials and event shirts.
“As part of Kryptonite’s European growth initiative we decided to choose selected grassroots events to support in 2002," said Tom Quigley, Vice President of Portable Security for Ingersoll-Rand. “For Kryptonite, the natural choice to start this program was the CMWC because messengers are looked to by cyclists worldwide as an unofficial authority on security; if they lose their bike they don’t work, pay bills or eat. This sponsorship is our way of giving back to the community that has most loyally supported Kryptonite throughout the years through constant use of our products."
Earlier in the year Kryptonite supported Glasgopoloco, a two-day messenger event in Glasgow, Scotland through product donations. The following week, Kryptonite was a prominent sponsor of the European Cycle Messenger Championships held in Dublin, Ireland. Combined, nearly 2,000 messengers from throughout Europe attended these events and were exposed to Kryptonite’s sponsorship through prizes, banners, stickers and logo placement on event shirts.
