Lost River Cycling, sponsors of the 19th Annual Intermountain Orthopaedics White Knob Challenge, join with Idaho’s new Knobby Tires Series to announce that the 2003 White Knob Challenge will be part of the Knobby Tire Series Championship.

The Intermountain Orthopaedics White Knob Challenge is the longest running mountain bike race in the Northwest. Held every year on the first weekend in August in Mackay Idaho, the race features some of best climbing, wildest descending and most magnificent scenery imaginable.

“This is a great partnership" said Davey Moore one of the founders of the Knobby Tire Series. “The White Knob has long been the best race in Idaho. We are stoked to work with Lost River Cycling to up the fun-level for Idaho Mountain Bikers with our new Knobby Tire Series."

The Knobby Tires Series is the newest addition to Idaho’s Mountain-Biking scene. The first race it will put on is the Coyote Classic on Saturday May 10, 2003. The Race course is located between Boise and Horseshoe Bend on Highway 55 about 5.5 miles north of the Shadow Valley Golf Course. This course is specifically designed for racers of all abilities and skill levels, from beginners to pros. Race terrain features include high-speed rolling double track, tight and twisty sagebrush single track, technical and groomed cow trails, “get-your-socks-wet" water crossings and for the more experienced riders quick steep drops and nasty little granny gear climbs.

Other Knobby Tire Series races include the Kelley Canyon Knobby Challenge on July 12 with plans in the works for one or two additional races later in the summer. Series info is available on-line at www.knobbytireseries.com.

Andy Bopp, who founded Lost River Cycling in 1996 to take over the White Knob Challenge, said “Lost River Cycling is excited to bring the White Knob into this new series. Davey, who is an Idaho Mountain Biking legend, and his partner Cynthia Gibson are injecting new life into an already dynamic Idaho Race scene. Idaho mountain bikers are gonna have fun this year."

In addition to being a Knobby Tire Series Race, this year’s White Knob also has riders competing for a stage race championship with a mountain bike short track race stage and head to head drag race stage. “The White Knob will be a weekend long event with free camping, barbeques and exciting spectator friendly race events," Bopp added.
