| 04/21/2005 | The organizers of the Tour de France have renewed their agreement with VeloNews to produce the North American edition of the Official Tour de France Guide for another two years. The Tour and VeloNews have collaborated on the Guide since 2000.
The Official Guide to the Tour de France is a high-quality, perfect-bound magazine of 148 pages that exhaustively previews each year's Tour de France. Appearing in June before each year's race, the Guide is packed with features, photos and stats on the world's largest annual sporting event. And with American hero Lance Armstrong defending his title for the last time at this July's Tour, interest in the event has never been higher in the United States.
The Guide is sent to all VeloNews subscribers, and it has bonus distribution to newsstands and bike shops across North America. Not only is it by far the best selling VeloNews special issue, but reader surveys consistently call it a reader favorite.
Tour de France race director Jean-Marie Leblanc explains, "VeloNews been covering the Tour de France longer -- and more consistently -- than any other American cycling magazine. More than anyone, they understand the Tour. We have been extremely pleased with the Official Guide produced by VeloNews and are happy to once again welcome them as a publishing partner."
VeloNews Advertising Director Steve Brawley says, "The Official Guide gives advertisers an exceptional opportunity to reach their key customers, who will study every page, every day during the Tour's month-long competition. The Guide is the indispensable armchair companion for all cycling fans in July, and it offers advertisers the greatest concentrated single exposure in the cycling market."
The publication also includes a special section on the North American riders and TV schedules. Besides pages of information on the teams, the athletes, the bicycles and the 21 stages of the 2005 Tour de France, the Guide will feature in-depth stories on the Tour and its 102-year history written by top cycling journalists in Europe and the U.S., and feature stunning pictures by the Tour's leading photographers. "This is a must-buy souvenir edition for every cycling fan," adds Brawley. www.velownews.com
