the "Grand" security cable     On: 2010-01-12

this stuff is heavy and big, it is true. dont think its a little shorter than the 1007 and neglect the weight. that was what i did.
I couldnt imagine what was it untill the package was opened. I even thought the U-lock was included. well, this is definitely not a handly security cable while you want to commute around the town and join your friends. my mate even chuckles it is for a motor. perfect security, I guess.
I wanted to return it but the fact is the return shipping costs $5 wow!
3 star is a brief rating. obviously it is not a great product for me.
Useful for front wheel and seat lock.     On: 2009-12-04

With a decent U lock, like Kryptonite New York Standard Bicycle U-Lock with Bracket ( 4-Inch x 8-Inch), this will help you keep your bike safe. Yes you are relying it all on one U-lock, but with a good one, thats usually enough. If you want both your seat and your wheel, get the 7ft version. Yes you can cut these cables with a good set of cable cutters, one strand a time. And Amazon sells these cutters. But if all it gets the thief is just the wheel or your seat, chances are they will move to bike which is only locked with a cable and take all of it. Darwinian? yes, but everything can be broken given enough time and tools. The key is to make your bike less easy than everyone elses, without weighing your bike down so much that you might as well have bought a Wal-mart special and not bothered with the lock at all.

Focus on layers of security. Park it in a well lit area. Use a decent U-lock, add cables to make it more difficult. And dont rely on the weakest link to keep your bike secure.
Fabulous security cable.     On: 2009-10-14

Bought this cable for you graduate student partner who loves bicycling to campus. It is a lot sturdier than anything we found in Kmart, Walmart, etc. and works very well with my 40 year old UHaul moving van lock. On a campus where bicycle theft is common, this seems to be the extra deterant that one would want. The price is worth what should be a life time of security.
100% Locked Up     On: 2009-09-27

With the extra length I can be sure both tires and my seat are locked up at the metro station, during my local commute. It also helps when I have to lock up in odd places that dont have any place for bikes.
Good for low-crime areas     On: 2009-09-14

This cable along with a mini U-lock is good for low-crime areas and only for a couple hours at a time. The 7 foot length is great to go through the saddle rails, front wheel and the frame. I wouldnt leave it overnight though. The inherent problem with using a security cable with a U-lock is that once the U-lock is broken there goes everything else. Ive since moved on to using a keyed cable lock to go along w/ my mini U-lock for leaving my bike overnight on the street.
Great bick lock cable. I use it every day.     On: 2009-09-12

I use this cable with the NYFugettaboutit Kyponite U-lock. The one downside is the cable is hard to keep coiled. The velcro strap helps but it could use another.
A very good cable     On: 2009-08-03

This is a well made, basic cable. It wont stop bolt cutters, but its a good deterent for when you leave your bike unattended for a short time.
Very Poor Customer service     On: 2009-07-18

too short     On: 2009-07-12

this product was not worth the money; because the cable was too small and short
Good for Securing Bike Seat, Wheels and/or Quick Release Components!     On: 2009-02-10

The Kryptonite Kryptoflex cable is meant to be used in conjunction with a U-lock. It should ONLY be used as a means to secure quick release components like your seat, seat post and/or wheels in conjunction with a U-lock. It should NOT be used to secure the bikes frame to a solid object like a bike rack.

If you try to use this cable as your primary means of securing your bike (frame) then dont be surprised if your bike gets stolen (like another reviewer experienced, sadly). USE COMMON SENSE, PEOPLE!

For what it was intended to do (secure quick release components, bike seat, wheels, etc.) it does a great job.

I would recommend it to anyone that wants another added layer of protection on top of a solid U-lock.
Don't waste your money!     On: 2009-01-31

We have been using this cable to secure 2 generators to our 5th wheel for several years. Apparently the cable is only good for keeping honest people honest because both generators ($2000+) were stolen when the Kryptonite cable was cut. So find another product that isnt easily cut.
Use it correctly, and you will be rewarded     On: 2008-10-09

Some people have issues with this cable being easily cut, which leads to their bike being stolen. I want to set the record straight about this product and proper locking methods. These cables are by no means meant to be your sole locking device, but rather, they are meant to be used in conjunction with (ideally) a U-Lock. I work in a bike shop and attend school at Michigan State, a virtual candy store for bike thieves, and as such proper locking is imperative. First off, buy yourself a good U-Lock. I would recommend going with the Kryptonite brand, as they are THE name in bike locks. I myself use what Kryptonite calls the "Fahgettaboudit" which is an 18mm-thick, vinyl-coated monster that would make New Yorks most proficient bike thieves shudder. THIS IS WHAT YOU USE TO LOCK YOUR BIKE TO THE STATIONARY OBJECT, not the cable. Put the U-Lock through the frame and through the stationary object. You then use a cable (I reccommend a seven or four-foot KryptoFlex, again, for the same reasons) to act as a secondary security device and, more importantly, SECURE YOUR REMOVABLE COMPONENTS (such as a quick-release wheel or seat). Before closing the U-Lock, put one end of the looped cable onto the U-Lock, then loop the cable through your wheel and seat supports. Put the other end of the looped cable onto the U-Lock, close the U-Lock, and walk away whistling, because your bike is now un-stealable. That is the proper application for these cables.

Okay, so now to actually review the cable. Its amazing. You cannot top Kryptonites quality, and it is very useful. It is also just as resistant to cutting as any other cable youll find. Top-notch durability

Now, theres no doubt that when people walk past your bike, with cables snaking through it like some kind of evil invasive weed, and a five-pound U-Lock hanging off the side, theyll be thinking "Man, this guy (or girl) is really obsessed with bike security." But, hey, isnt that the point?
Not meant to lock up a bike     On: 2008-08-13

This cable is for securing wheels, etc, to a standard lock, not for primary protection against bike theft. Its great at what it does, but dont use it to lock up your bike.
USELESS!!!!     On: 2008-06-23

I just got my US$450 bike stolen due to one of these useless cables. The cable looks sturdy but from the cut the thieves left I could see that they had no problem at all cutting it (it was a clean cut). Dont waste your money with this product or dont risk loosing your precious bike using it!!!
USELESS!!! DON"T BUY IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR BIKE STOLEN!     On: 2008-06-23

I just got my US$450 bike stolen because of this product. The thieves had no difficulty getting a clean cut on this cable. Dont buy this product unless you want to have your precious bike stolen!
Worthless Strands of Metal     On: 2008-06-17

I was recently burglarized and what the thieves didnt get were two bicycles that were coincidentally locked up with the Kryptonite Kryptoflex Cable. However, the cable had absolutely nothing to do with it--the bicycles were well hidden from view underneath a tarp and were not tampered with. When I tried to move the bicycles afterwards I realized I could not find the key to the lock. So I made some preliminary cuts to the cable with a hack saw, and then finished the job off by nibbling each strand of wire with a pair of aviation snips. The cable snapped in two in about 90 seconds and I was able to free the bicycles. I realized that if I hadnt hidden the bicycles under the tarp, they would have been stolen in spite of the cable and lock.

The Kryptonite Kryptoflex Cable is absolutely worthless when it comes to protecting your belongings against even the most basic tools of a criminal. Save your money and purchase a standard blue plastic tarp and hide your stuff instead. Youll save some money and have more piece of mind than what these worthless strands of metal with the childish comic-book brand can provide. The word "Kryptonite" is also a synonym for Achilles heel, the one weakness of an otherwise invulnerable hero--a not too clever brand name either. You can even use the blue tarp as a cape and prance around your back yard like a real superhero. That ought to scare the crooks away.

kryptonite 4' cable     On: 2008-05-09

Works just as I thought. I only wish I had gotten it about a foot longer. But Im very statisfied.
Good length, very strong, easy to take with you.     On: 2007-07-12

I recently moved to Minneapolis (which is very bike-friendly) and work downtown. Biking to work is a pleasure and it is nice to have a little piece of mind about the storage of my bike.

Also, I thought the cable would be inconvenient to carry, but it is not.. It can store easily in most bags that you would bike with, or around the handlebars or other parts of the bike. It has a little Velco strip that you can use to keep it looped up.

I definitely think that a longer cable like this 7 footer is a good idea (as opposed to one of the shorter cables). Once you loop it up for storage, it doesnt take a lot of space, and it offers more flexibility when you lock your bike.

A bit of piece of mind     On: 2007-07-12

I got sick of wondering if my bike seat would be there when I finish work. Now, I can lock it up every day. My 7 foot Kryptonite cable easily slips through the loop on the small cable and still locks the rest of the bike.

The diagram with the cable gives a suggestion on how to attach it to the seat. I leave that cable attached on the seat, with a cable-tie (or zip-tie, one of those things they use in electrical work) to hold it a bit more securely to the pole that the seat sits atop.

You can also use a separate lock to lock the cable to the bike.

The length of the cable seems good for its purpose.

Additional bicycle security     On: 2007-01-18

When used in conjunction with a high-profile bicycle lock (recommend a U-lock), it will definitely keep the chance of theft quite a bit lower. Great product from a good company.
