![]() Michael Jordan to the Max (Large Format) Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 39 More Information JORDAN "NEED I SAY MORE" I would buy this video, a thousand times over again for this price, see the GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYER WHO HAS EVER LIVED, in the IMAX format. Need I say more!!!! GREAT MOVIE!!! Awesome movie. Perfect for any Jordan fan! I was a little worried that this movie would not play full screen on my flat screen t.v. but to my enjoyment it did. It plays covering the entire screen and it has a very clear picture! dont let this one pass you by. Dissapoiting Don't Buy this Many people brought this probably thought might has some great MJ play clip but that;s totally wrong u getting a few histoy of his carrerr but 90% is focus at the last game when he;s in bull, thats all, so not worthly unless u die hard MJ fan and ignore review from others ! There;s better one out there. Powerful Very informative about the MVP. Great inspiration to those who are getting into basketball. Excelente Tiene un excelente contenido, sobre todo las remembranzas sobre la vida profesional de MJ, recomendable. I have never seen this movie in my life by: Anonymous On: 2004-09-25 I havent seen MJ to the Max and I hope I like it. MJ awesome on and off the court I bought this DVD without really knowing what to expect. I didnt really expect the IMAX feeling to translate well to a smaller screen, and to tell the truth, it doesnt. But that is not a problem here. Michael Jordan is an athlete larger than life and he does not need a big screen to relay that. His messages are powerful and his philosophy is an excellent source to anyone, but especially if youre raising children. He loves children in general, specifically his own, and a lot of what he says relates to children. You will not be let down by this DVD, the message is powerful and MJ on the court is always a delight. Ultimate Jordan is a lot better by: Anonymous On: 2004-03-04 I bought this DVD with great anticipation only to be let down. Sure the visuals are great but Im more interested in the plays that made the Jordan experience special. The Ultimate Jordan is a much better DVD. The tale of a man and his basketball. by: ihatemtv89 On: 2004-01-13 Ive always been a huge fan of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls (especially since I live in Illinois). I went to an IMAX theater to watch this documentary. Once I got there, the IMAX screen was huge and looked nice (something that I would later realize was more of a hassle than a benefit). For starters, the screen was so big that youre constantly looking around you just to see the movie. But enough about my personal experiences and how I dislike the IMAX screen, lets get on with the actual movie/documentary(This is a standard documentary to me, but it seems like some people insist on calling it a movie). I have to be completely honest here: "Michael Jordan to the Max" is somewhat boring. Dont get me wrong, it well documents some of the highlights of M.J.s career, but even a person that said he was one of Michaels biggest fans was sleeping during it. I suppose this documentary is something nice to have to complete your M.J. highlight DVDs, but some might find this thing to be a little boring. Decent I did not see this on the IMAX screen (but I have seen other films, so I can extrapolate somewhat). There is good background on Michael Jordan and some good shots. A lot of it focuses on the Chicago Bulls versus Utah Jazz rounding out MJs career, but it is done well. Some things are his baseball career and the positive influences of his father are worthy additions. Overall, good for any basketball fan, especially fans of MJ. Must buy for Jordan fans! Along with the "Ultimate Jordan" DVD, this is a must buy for all Jordan fans. While the Ultimate Jordan set has all of his earlier hits; Come Fly With Me, Above and Beyond, etc., this DVD packs in the accolades of his final year as a Chicago Bull. There are more interviews and more candid insights with Jordan compared with his earlier videos. The sound and video quality are top notch as well. Widescreen TV a must! by: Anonymous On: 2002-11-04 I saw this movie in the IMAX theater in Boston at the Science Museum and was thrilled. Granted the home viewing experience is not the same but I also rented the DVD and was thrilled.. For those who did not enjoy the DVD, you have the wrong equipment. I have a widescreen TV and full 5.1 channel surround sound. The sound mix is incredible and the picture format and video transfer is stunning. In some game scenes it feels like you are on the court. I am going to buy this DVD for my home viewing pleasure and the legend of Michael Jordan will live on.... MICHAEL JORDAN FOREVER Excuse my poor english, but Im a french fan of Michael Jordan and I would like to advise the future french customers about this dvd. First of all, the movie is great and tells the carreer of that astonishing athlete, probably one of the greats sportsmen ever seen. But the good new is that this dvd has a 5.1 dolby audio track in french, so I readed it easyly on my multizone dvd player. French fans of M.J., dont hesitate! This dvd is really the must!!! Stay in the IMAX This "movie" was great in the IMAX theater but lacks some of its luster when it moved to DVD. Michael Jordan is a great athlete and this is an outstanding tribute so it should stay at the IMAX to give it the size that it deserves. Jordan to the Max This is the best Jordan movie of them all! I have seen all the rest, and this is the best! The storyline and integration of MJs highlights is oustanding! That is why I gave it 5 stars! Have to agree it's weak Love some of the action but it is slow and feels like an ESPN interview. The 6th season in review is much better if thats what you want. This is a summary of Jordan with 80% of it on that 6th season. Try Ultimate Jordan for more action and a better use of your money. Larger than Life Michael Jordan, whether soaring through the air in highlight-reels or examining his life and achievements in more staid documentaries, is always worth watching. This film uses a little of each while chronicling his final season as a Bull. Though it is not nearly as exciting as when viewed on a gigantic IMAX screen, the DVD version retains the vivid colors and crisp sounds that set this documentary apart from others that have focused on Jordans career. With interesting commentary by people such as Phil Jackson and Bob Greene who know Jordan well, there is more insight into the man than in standard NBA Films type-material, and the flashbacks to Michaels struggles during high school, his brief stint in baseball, and the death of his father, really make the story of his triumphant season compelling. I would highly recommend this DVD to any fan of Michael Jordan. If you cheered Jordan's "Last shot" you will love this DVD "Jordan to the Max" is a straightforward DVD with minimal extras which chronicles Jordans "last dance" all the way to its improbable, fairytale finish (the "Last Shot"?). Not as breathtaking as when viewed on an IMAX screen, it still remains an entertaining lovefest for the greatest player ever. This is not a comprehensive look at all things Jordan. You will not find a balanced journalistic view of the man behind the #23. For a more complete view, I recommend "the Ultimate Jordan" DVD. Good, but just rehashed too much stuff by: Anonymous On: 2001-12-20 It is an excellent film, but recalls many things hardcore Jordan fans knew long ago. It caters to a different audience, people new to the legendary one. It goes through his days in North Carolina, struggles to win a title, the dynasties briefly, his retirement (and consequent baseball career), the comeback, all the while leading the viewer through the 1998 Bulls NBA playoff run. The most touching part was surprisingly the baseball part, where it shows the human side of a great athlete. Failure can afflict even the most gifted, but it is not due to a lack of effort. The rest, well, I have seen before or saw it live. The coverage of the 1998 run did not have the depth that I would expect. It did not penetrate the psyche of a dynasty nearing its end. Overall, the film was good, a bit on the short side (45 min. or so), with good narration from Lawerence Fishborne. Recommended to anyone who knows little about the legend, the myth, and the man Michael Jordan. Sensational This is, in my opinion, the finest video/documentary on Michael Jordan. It is head and shoulders above all of the dunkorama highlight fodder which fills all of the other Jordan videos. The production values are top notch. The colours are vivid and the sound is crisp. The voiceover commentary is provided by Laurence Fishburne and sets the tone well. Because the movie was filmed using IMAX technology it has a wide view of the on-court action which allows the viewer to take in everything which is happening. The DVD extras are more of an afterthought and do not really bring much to the mix. As I alluded to before, this film focuses more on Jordans leadership and his burning desire to win, which is a refreshing change. Jordan is one of my favourite athletes. It is nice to finally see a production which actually pays him and his abilities the respect he deserves. I highly recommend this film, even more so to those people who never saw him play prior to his comeback with the Wizards, as they will see him when he was at the absolute pinnicle of human skill and ability. Poor I was disapointed with this video. But this fairly short documentary itself is fairly bland. It follows the Bulls and Jordan during his last season, through the finals against the Jazz and Jordans career-ending (for now, at least), game-winning shot in which he gave Bryon Russell a spank and then drained that jumper. The best video I have seen is Ultimate street brawls at streetbrawls.com at least that is real but Not much here that most fans dont already know. If youre a real Jordan and hoops fan, wait for the Jordan DVD box set which should have more footage from all throughout his career. This Michael Jordan light, with good sound. If you like the Bulls and Michael Jordan... by: Anonymous On: 2001-09-20 Being a Chicago native and a Bulls fan (not to mention an MJ fan), I especially enjoy this video time after time. It features Michaels career and his philosophy about life and winning, intermingled with a recap of the Bulls 6th championship run. Lawrence Fishburnes narration fits well, and the theme music from Fatboy Slims "Youve Come a Long Way Baby" album complements both the energy and hipness that MJ himself projects. If you have surround sound, it wont be wasted on this video, as with any IMAX Ive seen. The crowd sounds, the Alan Parsons theme at the UC, the FBS tracks and the subtle audio effects all add to the feel of the flick and remind me again and again how much I love home entertainment technology. My wife just hates the opening seen where I turn up the subwoofer as the sound of MJ dribbling the ball in a pin-drop quiet stadium shakes half the house. In short, this is a must-have video to bring out when your sports fan pals are over. this is not even a documentary when i bought this i wanted to see jordans dunks, his tricks, the moves. but no, this is a documentary of jordans career and the main focus is targeted on his last year in the NBA. actually, im not even sure if i would call this a documentary. it contains an interview with michael (specially done for this dvd) and a couple of other interviews, but almost none with other players. so, if you are looking for some clean action - dont buy this dvd. High quality sound mix in a pedestrian documentary The only reason to get this DVD is to immerse yourself in the sound mix in the introduction when they re-enact the introduction of the Bulls and Michael Jordan at the United Center. That was always exciting for me as a Jordan fan. Hearing it in Dolby Digital 5.1 with the lights out and a flashlight and hearken back to the glory days. Of all the Jordan videos to date, this DVD clearly has the best sound mix. But this fairly short documentary itself is fairly bland. It follows the Bulls and Jordan during his last season, through the finals against the Jazz and Jordans career-ending (for now, at least), game-winning shot in which he gave Bryon Russell a spank and then drained that jumper. Not much here that most fans dont already know. If youre a real Jordan and hoops fan, wait for the Jordan DVD box set which should have more footage from all throughout his career. This Michael Jordan light, with good sound. Michael Jordon on the Imax screen and tv screen. by: stephen2001 On: 2001-07-26 Now I know this sounds odd, but this was rented on dvd. And it stills plays on Navy Pier. So maybe going to your favorite video store to buy or rent this on video or dvd. The movie focuses on Jordons last season as a Chicago Bull. But there is mention of Michaels late father who was found dead in August of 93. After that Michael retired from basketball. And close to his fathers death, James Jordan (Michael Jordons father) hinted to Michael of retiring from basketball and play baseball. Which Michael did. But Michael wasnt good at baseball and returned to the sport he was good at, that would be basketball in case you have just joined us. Michael Jordon spends the movie making shots after shots. He only misses twice in the film. The first playing on the road playing the Pacers. Which turns the battle goes to game 7. While that the Jazz has ten days rest and waiting to find out who they will play next the Bulls or the Pacers. And it turns out the Bulls win game 7 even thought they are tired. The first game the Jazz win. They Bulls win the games up until after game 4. The first two are in Utah. Then they go to the United Center in Chicago for games 3, 4, 5. Which game 5 turns out to be Michael Jordons last game at the United Center. The Utah Jazz win game 5 and now thier is game 6 inm Utah. Jordan's the man, but this film is weak by: Anonymous On: 2001-06-16 I wanted to see this at IMAX, but didnt get to. Im very happy about that now. I bought the dvd and I gotta say its pretty weak stuff. Nothing new, same old stuff you heard and saw a million times in the latter part of Jordans career. In short, this film is a dud. Its like reading a Sports Illustrated for kids thats just a "get you up to speed" type of thing. Lots of praise, no controversy. Wheres the gambling, Isiah Thomas hating guy who gave his teammates hell? This movie is all sweet and no bitter and it makes for very boring material. If you want to see a real Jordan video, watch Playground or Airtime (which are said to be coming out on a dvd called "Michael Jordans Ultimate dvd"). If you want some real insight into the real Jordan, read "The Jordan Rules." But dont buy this Hallmark card movie. Besides, those of us who remember Jordan back in the 80s and early 90s can tell you that he was much more exciting then. Even when he wasnt winning championships, he was more entertaining than this whole Lakers squad is now. But "Jordan to the Max" is nothing to get excited about. Not very good drums I heard that Michael Jordan played the drums, so I got tis DVD. He dusnt plae the drums! Me angry now. Incredible Michael, but... I saw this when it first came out on IMAX in Las Vegas, and I was so pumped. And those who called it a moving experience, and Jordan a great person for kids to look up to are right on. The only thing that really let me down was the fact that none of the other Bulls got squat as far as any time on the air...this was strictly Mikes show. The biggest killer for me, and I was sure before I saw it that this part would be bigger than life, was the greatest introduction a sports team has ever had. That is when the lights go down, you see the bulls running down the street on the big screen in the arena, and the Alan Parsons song Sirius is played while the starters are announced one by one. Everytime I ever saw that I cranked up my Home Theatre, and literally got goose bumps every time. Well, in Michael to the Max, we get about 15 notes of the intro, and for me, it was such a let down, that the rest of the show was me waiting for the real intoduction, but it never happened. Thank God I made one copy of a Bulls-Utah game with the whole intro, but what I would have given to have Rodman been one of the starters and got introduced. Other than this personal heartbreak, it is a great Michael moment to be kept forever by MJ fans. He is god If you are a basketball or ANY sports fan, you have to appreiciate the skill and athletic ability of Michael Jordan. I first saw "Jordan to the Max" at IMAX, it was UNBELEIVEABLE ...He truley is one of the greatest athletes to ever roam this earth. I look forward to owning my own copy of this amazing DVD. Some of the camera angles used in "Jordan to the Max" are very unique and give a whole new perspective of the game. "Jordan to the Max" is truley inspirational. Good film if you're a Jordan fan, average if you aren't. I didnt see the IMAX version and I would agree with one of the previous reviews that mentioned this DVD is probably best left for large (5) screens. On a smaller screen, it is annoying to watch the picture-in-picture interviews and isnt any more impressive than a regular NBA Film production. It was disappointed that the film covered everything you already knew about Jordan. (ie fathers murder, being cut from the high school varsity squad, etc.) The behind-the-scenes footage isnt impressive, most of the film is dedicated to oncourt "ESPN highlights" and Jordan talking about his background. Contains more extras than most sports documentary/films including a directors commentary. Through all the negatives, it still leaves a warm spot in your chest because you cant help but admire the best basketball player of all time. Important Note - I could not get the extra features menu to work on a PC DVD! Jordan fans will love this This is a great movie documenting the 1998 season. It goes through what it is like to be MJ, on, and off the court. It skips around with interviews and highlights, but it is a MUST for anyone who loved the Bulls. Jordan Airlines! This is really a great picture showing the best basketball player. Sound and visual quality is very good. You watch all the great moments of Michael Jordan. Dont miss it! Very good while we're waiting... ...for the super-ultra-deluxe Michael Jordan DVD Boxset. I couldnt watch this on IMAX because there arent those kind of screens where i live, so ive been waiting for this release for a long time. I have to say that i was surprised, i didnt expect it to be as good as it is, specially in the technical issue : the 5.1 mix is VERY GOOD, and it has a great image quality...but as all IMAX movies, is too short. 45 minutes of MJ is just not enough for his fans. Youll see a short review of the Bulls last playoffs run mixed with some highlight from his career. You wont learn anything new about his life or his career, but if youre his fan youll really enjoy watching once again those incredible things he used to do. The 21 min. "Behind the scenes" doesnt add much and neither does the 2 min. "Bullet Time" featurette. As i said before, as a big basketball fan youll enjoy this DVD, but thinking about the possibilities of the DVD format, the next time i wont expect less than a big boxset with as much MJ as it can fit in there. Great film, even on the small screen! Even though this film was originally developed for IMAX, it was still excellent on my TV(32 inches). It has been my experience that many times IMAX films dont translate very well to the small-screen, but this one is great. Of course, the audio and video quality is superb. This film is not a biopic of Jordan, as few things about his life outside of sports are discussed. What this film really does well is portray Jordan as the great athlete that he is. After watching this film, I have no doubt that Jordan was the greatest athlete of the 20th century. His devotion to the sport and his desire to be a good role-model also are expressed well in the film. If you like documentaries, you must add this film to your collection. Entertainment and educational value wrapped in one film This is a must for all sports fans, coaches, teachers and parents. Even if you do not have an IMAX screen in your living room, the highlights of Jordan and the basketball scenes are impressive on the tube as well. And while sports fiction movies are often criticized for their storybook endings, this is the true story of a sports hero, perhaps the greatest sports figure of all time, going out on top as a champion. Finally, this is the perfect movie for any coach, teacher or parent wishing for a tool to teach their children, athletes and students about work ethic, commitment, teamwork, and perserverance. I highly recommend owning this film. It is to the max I just bought the Michael Jordan to the Max DVD yesterday and Ive watched it 4 times already. I had the oprotunity to see it in a Immax theather and it was a incredible. No, you will not have the same effect on your television (I dont care how big it is). But the DVD is insprirational,it will give you just a glimspe of a true campion. Ive heard it called a love letter to Michael, well it is, and if you do love Michael its a must have. Do you have a big TV? I mean, a really REALLY big TV? If the answer is no, then you probably shouldnt get this DVD/VHS. Make no mistake: MJ to the Max is an IMAX movie, and youll be very disappointed when you see it at home. About half of the movie has these really annoying picture-in-picture shots, which take up maybe 25% of the screen, and made me feel like I was watching streaming videos on the web. Im sure this "technique" worked fine on a 80-foot-high screen, but it definitely doesnt on a regular TV. In terms of the content, the movie also disappoints. Its nothing more than a rehash of ESPN highlights, except that it is shot at awkward angles and further away from the action. Again, this may have worked on a huge IMAX screen, but certainly not on a regular TV. The movie also fails to provide any in-depth behind-the-scenes material. My 2 cents: Save your money unless 1) you are a die-hard MJ fan, and/or 2) you have a really really REALLY big TV. Do you have a big TV? I mean, a really REALLY big TV? For big time Jordan fans, this film provides nothing we havent seen before. Yes there are some nice special effects (a la Matrix) seen, but those effects were "special" because they were seen on an IMAX screen. I highly doubt many of you an 80 foot screen to accomodate such an experience. The clips and highlights are things weve seen before. If any of you have seen his many NBA highlight tapes, this movie will not provide anything different enough to warrant a purchase. Also, for a documentary there is not enough insight from his teammates, once again providing nothing new for the Jordan fans. There is a small featurette detailing the special effects from this IMAX film but once again, its not enough to warrant a purchase. Whether youre a diehard Jordan fan or not, get the NBA videos if you want a more comprehensive look at his career. Michael Jordon to the Max DVD will not disapoint I have seen the MJ to the MAX eight times at the IMAX. Truly sepectacular. You have not experienced MJ until you see this DVD. It hightlights his early years at North Caroliana as well as the last 3 championship including the awesome 70+ win season. If you have a Dolby Digital reciever and a big screen the image of of entering the United Center with MJ for the last time will blow you away, you will feel the greatness. Michael Jordan To The Max I have not seen this DVD but I have seen this film at an IMAX and let me just say this it was so awesome If you like sports or not you will love this film I incourage all to see this one. Thank you for your time. |
