![]() Bell HitchBiker 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack By: Bell Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 9 More Information Sway There is way too much play where the rack fits into the receiver. I used the threaded pin and had others check to see if it was done properly. This thing is not usable. A great Value! I have been carrying two new very nice "bike shop" 26" Comfort bicycles since Christmas 2007, and two little kids bikes with my Bell HitchBiker. It takes some creative positioning to mount the kids bikes. It is rock solid! Its mounted in my SUVs 2"x2" receiver. If you properly use the included tapered hitch pin, it becomes one with the hitch. No rattling, no play, no side to side movement. Other reviewers must have used their own standard hitch pin. I normally use additional bungie cords with ANY brand of bike rack. So while the velcro/rubber design is weak compared to the BIG name brands, its not an overall issue. Best Value Bike Rack Available! Im surprised to see other reviews here that are so critical of this excellent product. My guess is they werent installed correctly or the bolts were left too loose. Mine is rock solid & doesnt move even 1/4" from side-to-side. Its so strong I can lift myself up on it at the end of the support bars -- Im 265Lbs & the rack doesnt sag at all under my weight. The design allows me to pivot the rack down by simply sliding out a pull pin to easily open my SUVs back hatch and the powder-coated finish & overall workmanship is superb. I was able to use a simple cable & padlock it to my hitch receiver to prevent its theft, allowing me to leave it attached 24/7. At this price & with no tax or shipping its the best value available! I couldnt be happier! Great price... Good Product We just took our bell bike rack on a 9 hour trip and the bikes did great! We did tie them up with a few bungee cords so they wouldnt rattle around on the highway. The bike rack did fine with 2 adult bikes each with a baby seat and another childs bike. Great price... Functional, but it ain't not Thule product From March till October this thing stays plugged into the back of my RV (I find the plastic shim to work adequately for a 4x4 receiver). I have to admit, I cant see what its doin back there (probably for the better), but its got 20-some trips and three seasons to its credit, Ive never experienced any bicycular road kill and it doesnt "swing" side-to-side (there is play, I would suggest bungyin it horizontally). It takes an origami-ish type talent to nest 4 bikes neatly w/o snapin any spokes, but I can hang three 26" mountain bikes and my sons 20" BMX with little problem. Folks, this is one time that you get what you pay for. With this thing sellin for sub-$80 at Walmart, its surprising that it holds its own weight. It is what it is...meant for applications where the bikes arent going to be smack up against the back of your Lexus SUV. My only complaint is the rubber saddle/Velcro strap hold-down system. Ive had two loops in the saddles rip rendering them completely useless and I cant find replacement parts anywhere. Once again, bungys to the rescue. Also, unless youre oblivious to pain and frustration, dont even pull the pin and try pivoting the rack down w/ 4 bikes on it...a useless feature. Not a good purchase We are very dissapointed with the quality of this bike rack. When we used it, it swayed from side to side so much that people passing us would make comments to us about it. We do NOT recommend purchasing this item!!! This junk dented my RV I was hopeful that this would work well because the price was right but I was terribly disappointed. The problem is that the post is designed to fit two different sized receivers. Unfortunately, it doesnt work well on the most common size, the 4"x4". They have this plastic shim in there that just does not work at all. There is so much play that the bikes sway back and forth with every turn. The post travels at least a foot in both directions. Because it is so loose, the small, kids bikes I had on it crashed into the back of my brand new, $22,000 travel trailer and dented it in two places! I am so mad about it. I guess the only thing I can do is warn other shoppers. This junk dented my RV I was hopeful that this would work well because the price was right but I was terribly disappointed. Bell 4 bike hitch rack very pleased with the new rack, assembled and mounted the rack in very little time and was able to mount 2 adult and 2 childrens bikes with no problems. Rack seems solid and easy to use. You could buy extenders on another website, but they cost $25 each..... and we would need 2 for each of our bikes. Both our twin girls have Barbie 16" bikes, and they do not fit at all on the bike rack, not even w/ extenders. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! |
