Be careful how you use this lock     On: 2005-06-23

I got this very lock when I went to college a few years ago, because even though I knew a U-lock was more secure, I liked the convenience of the cable, and this particular cable lock seemed pretty secure. It lasted 1 month. It looked like someone used some kind of torsion cutting tool--the cable was cut perfectly cleanly, with no pinching or anything. My beloved mountain bike (and were not talking about a discount store bike) was gone after a month at college. I had known there was some risk, but this incident pointed out just how bad that risk really was.

For a cable lock, this seems like a quality piece, and the lock component itself seems very secure. But no cable lock is very secure. I have two other Kryptonite U-locks, one basic and one older-generation New York U-lock, and theyve done the job for me. This lock is decent for what it is, but only use it if your bike is in an area with NO professional bike thieves (i.e., not a college or medium to large town), or in combination with a U-lock.
