Be ready to purchase your own straps to connect the bike to the clamps. The first strap broke before I used it and the second strap broke the first time I used it. I went to the store and bought some Velcro and it works.
The clamps work O.K., but need to be checked for tightness each time your transport your bike. It would be nice if the arms that extend from the clamps were a little bit longer as my handle bars extend just a bit too far outside the bed of my truck for my liking.
I also use a bungee cord, although it is not necessary. The bottom line is that it does work even if the plastic straps that come with the Rec-Rac are crap. On: 2006-05-15
This product really works! Its easy to install( took me all of 3 min. to put it on my truck bed) and theres no drilling holes in your bed. Once the bikes are strapped in, they do not move around. I bought one rack and the separator accessory to carry an additional bike. I have to admit that the separator didnt work as well as I hoped it would, so I purchased another rack unit.Another thing thats great is that you dont have to take your front wheel off like with some other truck bed racks. Good product. On: 2006-01-10
I transport both my road bike and mountain bike in a pick-up truck. Previously i used a bike rack that required me to remove my front tire, not to mention drill holes in my bed. I was never comfortable using a hitch mounted carrier. This system basically clamps onto the lip of your truck. From there you attatch the bike to the clamps. EASY. Is it secure? I take my mountain bike off road and the bike doesnt even move. It is truly a great bike system. There are even attatchments that can be purchased once the basic system has been purchased.
