Worst bike lock ever. I dropped $15 on this thing today and am pretty bummed. It didnt come with directions on how to set it, and since theres no website from the company, it seems Ill never learn how. I hope the Bell corporation is putting my cash towards curing cancer or stopping vivisection or something because thats the only way Im going to feel like I wouldnt be better off putting my money into a blender and making some sort of money milkshake.

I have the key version of this lock. It is now hanging from my front stairs where it was cut by a bike thief. Not only was this little more than a theif deterrent, but it was always a huge hassle to use. The part where the cable opens and closes had to be perfectly aligned to close. I struggled with it every time.

Dont waste your money.

Broke within 2 weeks

Dont even think about ordering this item. I placed an order about 2 weeks ago and was able to set the combination rather easily. Everything was fine until yesterday when I rode to the gym and locked my bike up. When I came out to unlock the bike, the lock wouldnt open! If youre thinking I didnt spend enough time trying to open it - think again. I spent 30 minutes yanking, pulling, clearing the numbers and trying again, almost anything you could have imagined.

I eventually had to walk home and come back with my metal saw and saw it open. Even after I broke the lock, I tried opening it - DID NOT WORK.

Maybe I got a defective unit. I dont know. What I do know is that youre probably better off going to Target or Wal-mart and getting the same type of lock, but a name-brand like Master Lock. My girlfriend has a Master-lock thats the same type and its been working just fine for the past year.

[...]the lock arrived in 5 days. I opened the box, flipped the lever like the instructions said and was able to reset the lock in about 30 seconds. Has worked great ever since. My 7 year old is happy as a clam.

This lock, made in China, seems well constructed (although could likely be managed with a bolt cutter). However, apparently the clever and devious Chinese technical writer had not been exposed to slow, lazy occidental Americans. I worked with the instructions on two occassions, but was still unable to set an alternate combination. Perhaps use of an American technical writer would have been best. This company does not have a web site, so calling the toll-free number seems to be the only recourse (other than returning it to Amazon).

1/20/06 Update: Was finally able to set the lock. However, the lock would not open to the new combo (nor the old) so now it is useless junk. Am awaiting Amazons instructions for only my second customer return.

02/13/06 update: The second lock malfunctioned just like the first. After setting the new combination and testing it prior to engaging, the lock was closed, the cylinders were twirled, the cylinders were then reset to the combination selected and the lock failed to open. 2nd dud!! Amazon has been kind enough to furnish return shipping for both and a refund to my credit card. Thanks, Amazon!
