![]() Bell StowAway Bicycle Seat Bag By: Bell Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 66 More Information Zipper broke very quickly Had the zipper not broken very soon after I started using it, Id think a lot more of this bag. It holds plenty. I used a plastic cable tie to better fasten it to the seat. I agree with other reviewers that the velcro straps arent the most secure. I dont believe I abused the zipper in one or two of the first uses. I was able to keep it jury-rigged enough to use it for a season, but Ill be replacing it in the spring. If you buy this bag (and I dont recommend you do), I recommend you baby it. Only last a dozen uses! I bought this at a local sports store and barely used it before the zipper started coming apart. Then after about only a dozen uses before the zipper broken off completely. The zelco also repeated came loose and left the bag dangling. Stay away from this brand. You are better off buying one, slightly higher priced bag than several cheap ones. Cheap junk Youd think that by now I would have learned the age old lesson that you get what you pay for. This bag is priced so cheap because thats exactly what it is. The zipper on my bag never did work particularly well, and after two months it completely broke. Do yourself a favor and buy a better quality bag even if it means paying twice as much (or even more) for it. straps are stupid and useless the straps that go under the seat dont make sense, its like the velcro is in the wrong spots... i got it attached as tight as i could and it would sag down and drag on the wheel, i had to zip tie it to the seat to work. Horrible design. broke the first day Bought this at WalMart, but I thought it would be a decent bag because Bell is a good brand. The zipper broke within the day of buying it. Pay a little extra and get a better one. It keeps falling down The velcro straps on top dont hold it in place. Every ride Ive had with it (2 separate bags) has seen it fall down and rub against the back tire. Not recommended. Great Bag This is exactly what I needed to carry a small tire repair kit, cell phone, car keys, etc. It does the job well. I still have plenty of room left and it is expandable. It fit nicely on the bike. It is secure with the velcro straps. Hasnt loosened or shifted one bit in over several hundred miles. It's just OK This bag fit OK under my bikes seat and holds a lot. I have cable and lock, Bell emergency tool, and tire repair kit in it. Unfortunately, Velcro straps become undone from the vibration, and the bag starts dragging on the rear wheel. Good velcro, broken zipper I used this bag for 3+ years and it worked great! I would wager to bet that anyone complaining about the velcro just installed it incorrectly. The velcro straps should go completely over the bars under the seat and are strong enough to support a bag full of rocks off-roading (if thats what you wanted to carry). The zipper on my bag finally broke after cramming more than I probably should have for several years. The reflective strip on the back was perfect for hanging my bike light on. Unstable, small, but good for emergency tools The other reviewers are right. I dont see how they intend for the bag to stay stable on the bottom of a seat using just the velcro straps. I also use a short (5 inch) bungee cord, wrap it under the bag, and attach it to the seat. As far as I can tell, without the bungee cord, the bag would fall right off. No problems with the zipper, it opens the entire back and gives easy access. I can fit a spare tube, bike tools, and a few granola bars in the bag easily. Holds a lot, but the zipper is cheap I bought this at K-Mart for around $8. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I should have checked the zipper before i took it out of the store. The zipper can easily run off the tracks if youre not careful, however the more i use it the less it runs off the tracks so its possible that it just needs breaking in. Well see. On the other hand, it does hold quite a bit. For long rides mine holds: Wallet Keys Tire Irons Multi-use Tool (Hex Bits / Philips / Flathead) Spare Innertube For short neighborhood rides: Multi-use Tool Pear or Apple Sandwich Bag of Crackers You cant beat it for the price, just mind the zipper. Zipper soon broke Would have been a fine little bag if the zipper hadnt broke after less than two months of light use. Its not much good to anyone once that zippers broke. Now Im shopping for a new bag, and will avoid Bell products. Zipper broke on first day! Ther size of this bag was perfect for me. Held a couple of c02 cartridges, 2 spare tires, some tools, small bottle of sunscreen, but, the zipper broke on the first day. Seller let me return with no problems but I wouldnt buy this bag. Velcro Does Not Work The bag is good... but the velcro straps used to attached it to the bike frame are not strong enough. Ive had to use zip ties to get it to hang on (and that looks sloppy), otherwise it falls off the moment you hit a bump in the road. Unstable This is a perfect size saddle bag for fitting personal items such as phone (Blackberry) money, keys, bike lock and a little snack bar. However, the top velcro that is suppose to hold on the bottom of the saddle doesnt fit and it wont stay put. Eventually, somewhere in the middle of my rides it disconnect from the top and only hangs from the saddle bar, so I get worried that it might fall off and I lose all my important objects. Good Seat Bag For The Money! I advise you to read all of the reviews of the Bell Stowaway Seat Bag before you purchase one. This is one of those times youll need to make an informed decision to buy or not. Ive had the Stowaway for a couple of weeks now. Its installed on my classic Schwinn Continental touring bike (which is called a road bike today) under a new Bell Mountain Bicycle Seat. So far the bag has performed perfectly. I only do road riding and only on good roads so theres not going to be a lot of hard hits that would knock this bag loose. Some of the complaints Ive read say that its difficult to install. The Velcro straps are a bit tricky to fish up over the struts under your bike saddle, but with a little work it can be done. And I didnt have any trouble getting them good and tight. The zipper has worked fine for me but Im not abusive with any of my gear. I always try to treat gear as gentle as possible and knowing that zippers tend to break anyway, I guess Im just easy with it. So far so good with that too. As far as I can tell, the bag appears to be constructed well out of quality materials. I own two other Bell products and they too seem very well made. But considering the experiences that some of the other customers here have had, you may want to take a look at the bag itself first to see if it will fit your saddle. And if you are mostly an off road cyclist, theres probably better bags for that use. And if you buy local, its a lot easier to return the bag if it doesnt work for you. Youll also avoid the outrageous shipping charge for this bag. Make sure you also see my reviews on the Bell PRO-GEL Cycling Gloves, the Bell Mountain Bicycle Seat, and the Giro Transfer Sport Bike Helmet. I haven't even gotten it yet and dissapointment can't cover it I just now got notified it was being sent to me, 9 days after I ordered it, omg I swear if I need something that important I will either get something that comes from amazon warehouses directly, go get it in person or just go without. The timeframe in which this company sends out things they charge you for the minute you order it but you wont get it for a longer period and that is after they finally mail it. If I could have given it no stars I would have, customer service truly is pathetic with this company or maybe the fact I only bought a lower priced item so they figure my order can sit around and gather dust, even though the product I order they had plenty and were instock of it. Zipper is garbage The zipper lasted about a week. I liked the bag size, but now I am having to safety pin it shut. Spend a dollar or two more and get a decent bag. bicycle seat bag I didnt like this item, because the strap wont stay fastened, and, its too small. Horrible Bag This was a horrible bag. It only lasted me about 3 rides on the trail. The zipper wouldnt zip anymore because it wouldnt stay in the groove when zipping it up. The fabric kept getting caught on the zipper when zipping. After a couple times opening it, the zipper already started to break where it wouldnt close anymore. If you want something that will last you, then I suggest you get something else cause even though Bell = Big Company........they have some products that are just below par. Good seat bag... This is a strong seat bag. The velcro straps work fine to hold it firmly to the seat, and the zipper is good quality. Good and depends.. I have always liked this bag until I bought the super flash light and tried to install it under the seat. Simply, they both wont sit together, unless you are very tall and you can raise your seat high enough. The bag could have been a little less harsh in the outside design and size so it wouldnt block too much space. The ties that rap underneath the seat to catch it are not very practical but they are ok, could have been easier to reach. Good capacity for small tools like multifunctional and tire patching tools. Price is good. Id recommend it if you arent planning to buy Super Flash light and install it under the seat, or if you are not going to dedicate the under-seat area to anything else. I hope this helps. Perfect Pouch This bag is the perfect size and was easy to install. It is durable and sturdy and will do the job. Great Product! Bag is easy to attach and has a lot of storage space. Also you cannot go wrong with the price compared to bike shops prices. crappy product would not buy this again and will not use what I purchased. will take it to the goodwill and get rid of it Not durable This bag lasted for me less then a month before first tear on the bottom seam started showing. It couldnt hold a 4ft cable lock and basic tire repair kit, with total weight of 1-1.5 lb, using on city streets. The whole design of holding strap seamed to very thin type of fabric (I wouldnt dare call it a "ballistic nylon" because of its thickness, otherwise it sure looks like it) is a flaw. There are no reinforcements of any sorts and all the stress from content weight is in two places: where sides seamed to the bottom, straight down from where straps is sewed to the sides. Since it has hard plastic insert, which covers top and bottom of the bag, one would expect that it would participate in holding the bag together, but it doesnt, it only uses to preserve the shape of the bag. If the designers would put an reinforcement strap from side to side that runs across the bottom of the bag it would be perfect and much more durable. I realize that the problem I had maybe due to defective item or maybe I didnt let the top straps relax and made them little too tight. I will check that with my next bag which wont be made by BELL. The bottom line - I would not recommend this bag for more then carrying a large cookie in it (my apology to the the previous reviewer for this sarcastic analogy) functional, but disappointing I bought two of the Bell STowAways. One at a local retailer for my husband, and one from Amazon. The StowAway from the retailer attaches to the seat with a screwed on connector. Very nice and secure. The Amazon one has velco and has come loose on SEVERAL rides. Bell stowaway bag This bag is a great size and easy to put on the bike. I can hold everything I need and have extra room. I also found them at Wal-Mart and Target for the about the same price. One Flaw As some other reviewers have pointed out, this bag does have one flaw. The two velcro straps at the top are hard to get around the little bars on the bottom of the seat, which can cause it to droop a little. Just zip tie the bag into place and there shouldnt be a problem. It has room enough for a patch kit, multi-tool, keys, cable lock, etc... bad quality This product, in my opinion is bad quality. the zipper has already busted after a few mild rides. For that one reason im giving this 2 stars. other than that it is great, but without a zipper, i cant use it. Perfect I was looking for a nice little bag to fit under the seat of my wifes bike so that she could carry misc. items like keys, money and camera. This bag works great, and it even has a little loop to hold the rear flashing light. Not bad I keep the essentials in here... I always have a psi gauge, my 10 function tool, my headlight (a big 4 battery LED), a can of tire sealant, and some tire patches. Depending on my ride I usually also put in my cellphone and keys. it gets kinda tight with more than that stuff in there, but I have been able to throw in a pocketknife and my drivers license in there with the other things. Im thinking of investing in a rack and a bag, but this will suffice for now. When I need more things like work clothes, or school books, I usually just wear a backpack. This is a nice little bag, and several dollars cheaper on Amazon than Ive seen elsewhere. Flawed design, but fixable The size is what it is. Some seem to think that there are some magic bags out there that are actually bigger on the inside than other bags the same size. Sorry. Aside from that it is a good price. But, the top velcro straps will not hold on long, especially if you are doing any off road. It came lose 3 times on a 30 mile flat gravel trail. The position of the straps also makes it nearly impossible to get it tight under the seat. In a tightly strapped position, you cannot get your fingers in there to secure it. That is why most bags have one strap that goes through rails under the seat and wraps around and under the bag. If your stuck with this bag, you can use a plastic zip tie to secure it better. It wont come off and go back on without cutting, but at least it will hold. I would recommend a single strap pack though. I regret buying this bag. Please observe the bag image and read my review. Take a good look at the photo of the bag. See the strap on the top? That double end Velcro strap is suppose to fasten to the bars on the bottom of your bike seat, but it does a horrible job of doing that. Imagine pinching a piece of fabric with two fingers and trying to pull it between an inch wide gap as far as you can, and then imagine trying to be able to get that strap to touch another strap that is exposed through a half inch gap. Strapping on this bag is just that difficult. If you already have your bike seat on your bike like I do, you will have a difficult time fastening the Velcro straps [the straps on top] to the bars on the seat. Pulling off the Velcro is not a problem, but tightening the strap is a huge challenge. I am 5 6" and I have my bike seat fairly low, so in order to have the bag high enough so that its not dragging and touching the top of the rear tire, I have to make those Velcro straps as tight as possible. Whoever designed these bags didnt account for the fact that people need these bags fastened tight on their seats - when you get the Velcro on tight; there isnt enough "furry" to "scratchy" Velcro surface area to keep it fastened. The Velcro is hard to adjust because you have to pull the furry ends off the bag and reseal the straps through the bike seat [which have really tight openings and its extremely painful on your fingers trying to refasten the straps from under the seat. Even though I was able to get the bag one, it was still loose and the bag was dragging on the tire for a good 20 miles and when I got off my bike, I found an inch wide hole burned on the edge of the bag because of the heat from the friction with the tire. This strap has a horrible design flaw for a component that is critical in keeping the bag away from other moving parts. Great size, Great price, But won't secure I love this bag because of its price and size.. the material is durable, the reflective tape effective, and the bag can certainly hold a lot. But its so difficult to secure this bag under my seat. If the straps had velcro on both sides, perhaps it would work, or if the straps utilized snaps instead of velcro, but as it stands, I cant ride with this without it coming loose. I ride anywhere from 10-15 miles a day alternating rough trails with paved roads and this bag invariably comes loose and jiggles off of the seat rails within the first mile. I only store a few items in the bag, so theres no reason for it to come loose so easily. This bag stores a small emergency kit including a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer, liquid bandage, a bicycle multi-tool, a granola bar, and a roll of 2" compression gauze. I dont want to jury rig the bag to make it stay under my seat. I think next time, Ill just spend a little more money and get something that has snaps closures... just okay This bike seat is alright, I was dissapointed because the velcro did not wrap around the bottom of my seat very well causing the bag to become a little torn up while I was riding. The only thing that helps me with that issue now is that I have a basket on the back and bungie cords to wrap the velcro around instead of the bottom of the seat. Nice one I must say that it looks alot bigger than it is but Im kinda glad that it is smaller. I have a tube still in the box, a patch kit, tools, cell phone and a pack of smokes. Its plenty big. probably would hold about 2 maybe 3 steakhouse burgers from Burger King. HaHa. Bike Bag I just needed something to hold my keys. It has a lot more room than I anticipated and doesnt take up that much space. I can put my wallet, keys, cell and sunglasses in it easily and it doesnt interfere with my ride. Good. Only $7 First off, it will not take 3 weeks to ship I got mine in less than 21 hours after ordering. Its actually quite spacious and I fee secure putting valuables within it since it is so well velcro(d) to the bottom of my seat. more than enough room for a spare tube, tire levers, mini tool, patch kit, lip balm.... etc. useful purchase bought this product for my boyfriend who bikes to work everyday. This compact stow away pouch fits his house keys, work badge, glasses with its bulky case, wallet, and cell phone. It fits securely on the bike, but he likes to strap it on the front of the bike just in case the velcro straps were not strapped on properly. be aware you might receive something different! I ordered two of these bags two days ago. I received a bell stowaway bike bag, but the two I received are a different model than this. I received very small bags which zip quite differently than this bag. They are also shaped differently. That said, they are average bags-- probably a good bargain, but receiving the bags I asked for would have been a much better bargain. Poor storage Poor storage and not flexible in terms of mounting. If you already have other things mounted on the rod, it will be really hard to mount it and attach it to the chair. Fine for lightweight objects I bought this bag because it looked like the right size to stow our medium-duty bike lock when my family and I go biking. Unfortunately, the velcro straps could not support that much weight when going over bumpy terrain. My wife was testing it out and rode over a wooden bridge. On the way off the bridge, one of the straps came loose and the pack came in contact with the rear tire and got abraded pretty badly. She had to re-secure the straps and then ride very carefully for the rest of the trip. This bag is probably fine for carrying light objects on paved roads, but it wasnt quite up to the task for our needs. almost perfect... This is large enough to hold my cell phone, wallet, keys, and a snack, with room to spare. It secures very well to the seat post with a wrap around velcro strap. But I think the top velcro straps were designed for a wider saddle (perhaps as on a childs bike or a flat saddle on a hybrid) rather than my narrower womens saddle. They are hard to secure to my saddle, and dont always stay in place, but the good news is that it hasnt mattered and the seat bag hasnt bounced off or spun around or flapped in the wind. But - especially for the money - this bag does exactly what I need when Im out on my bike. Poor velcro strap design Most bicycle shop cycling equipment is a total ripoff moneywise when compared to the intrinsic cost of materials and manufacturing. So its great that Schwinn and Bell make decent cycling equipment for your dollar. But on some items, they could use smarter product designers. This bag is a very good value in regard to size and overall construction, but the mounting straps are lame. I couldnt get the velcro straps to stay attached on my seat rails because theyre too short. And I had to uncomfortably squeeze my fingers into a very small space between the rails to attach the straps to their counterpart. But even if they were longer, the design is illogical, and Ive wrote Bell about it. A better design would be to have longer straps that meet and attach on the underside of the bag so as to accommodate all types of seats, not underneath and between the seat rails as it is now. So I bought some velcro straps from Home Depot and rigged it myself, and I suggest buyers to do the same. After I did that, I am a happy camper. Decent for the price I managed to fit 2 tires and a bike tool in the pouch. Better there than in my shirt. At this price point, its worth what you pay - not more or less. I might be able to fit my keys and wallet in if I push the limits to the max. stuck riding I cant figure the thing out. How does it mount to anything. I must be stupid or something. I bought a $50 thing from an expensive company that is a rack/bag combo just to get relief. The thing drags on my wheel and the straps dont match up and down or sideways signed dummy Great value - no negatives! Well made, easy to mount, surprising capacity and dirt cheap. What more can you want? Bell quality at a great price I paid $8 for this seat bag. Nothing special... it does what it is supposed to do. Sits securely under seat. Bell is one of the best names in biking accessories so it will last. Pretty good, but.... Bell StowAway Bicycle Seat Bag it was hard to get it in place correctly so that the reflector behind the seat wouldnt be covered up. This was a part of a Christmas gift for one of our grandkids, but I actually purchased three of them so that my husband and I could both also have one. Decent size and great value! This was a part of a Christmas gift for one of our grandkids, but I actually purchased three of them so that my husband and I could both also have one. Decent size and great value! Large The bag mounts easily to the seat post and stays secure. The only other thing to say is that this bag is BIG. Its much bigger than I expected and could fit about 6 spare tubes. This caused a small issue with my wifes bike, which has a very small area under the seat. Stowaway Very useful product, easily installed. Well see how the velcro straps hold up under "pressure" not all that meets the eye the main problem with this product is that the picture is not the same as the real product. the zipper is not a side to side deal as shown but more of an arch , this really isnt a problem in that it hurts the functionality of the bag. there is also not as much reflective tape on the bag as shown. the bag is good for carrying a wallet cell phone and a bag of snacks, but if you want more space than that look for something else. nice bag, but not expandable This is a decent size bag for under the seat, but the picture makes it look like a different model with an expandable section by a lower zipper. This one is fixed size, about the size of the expandable unit when open. The mouth on this bag is nice and large unlike the expandable bag. Also the price is right. nice bag, but not expandable This is a decent size bag for under the seat, but the picture makes it look like a different model with an expandable section by a lower zipper. Not so tough Bought this same bag at Walmart. Pleased with the mounting and the space; but the bag only lasted about a month. Majority of rides were through metro at lunch (roads and curbs) plus a couple trails. It has ripped out the stitching along the bottom side and along the top. It was carrying spare tube, patch kit, multi tool, tire levers, keys and c-card/cash. Not so tough Bought this same bag at Walmart. Nice bag, good size I just used the bag for the first time this morning, and heres what I was able to fit inside: A large cookie A breakfast bar A plastic (grocery) bag A sunblock bottle My iPod with 2 accessories attached It was crammed full, but thats quite a bit of stuff. Its not quite large enough to fit a sandwich tupperware, but I think I can fit a sandwich in there as long as its just in a plastic bag. The bag attaches easily to the seatpost with a velcro strap, and also has 2 velcro straps on top which can attach to the seat itself. I dont think the bag budged during my 1-hour bikeride even having all that stuff inside. Since its so easy to attach, I just took the whole bag off and brought it with me after my ride! Excellent Bike Bag for the Price This behind-and-under-the-seat bike bag is "Bell" sturdy and easy to attach and remove. Cant go wrong for the money. Wrong picture on this item by: Anonymous On: 2007-05-13 I actually bought this bike bag because the one I bought at Walmart didnt seem to fit very well. The top strap was too far toward the zipper opening for it to be threaded under the seat springs and the result is that these straps disengage very easily. The picture of this bike bag indicated that the straps were set back toward the seat and that the zippered opening was actually a bit more functional. Surprise!!! No such luck. Exactly the same bag as is carried at Walmart with exactly the same problem. Teaches you not to trust the pictures. Excellent Value This seat bag is perfect - just large enough to hold spare tube (2 for road bikes), mini-tool and flat repair kit. It does not flop around, as reported by another reviewer, if it is installed correctly. Every member of my household has one on their bike... GREAT!!!!! by: Anonymous On: 2007-02-13 THIS BAG IS NOT TO BIG AND NOT TO SMALL. FITS GREAT UNDER THE SEAT AND DOESNT GET IN THE WAY. VERY GOOD BUY. Great little bag This bag is just perfect. You can shove a light jacket into it. You can store your wallet and keys. Its just what you need without holding so much that it becomes a burdon. Great little bag This bag is just perfect. You can shove a light jacket into it. You can store your wallet and keys. Its just what you need without holding so much that it becomes a burdon. Not bad. I put my ultra tool in it all the time, it does help. Nice capacity, but poorly fastened I have used this bag while riding single-track trails. It is constantly coming unfastened from the bottom of the saddle. Fortunately, it has never disconnected from the seat post, so I have not lost it completely. It is still a hastle that could have been avoided with better design. Like I said in the title, it has plenty of capacity for a spare tube, tire levers, keys, etc... If youre just riding on pavement, its probably fine. Nice capacity, but poorly fastened I have used this bag while riding single-track trails. The bad thing is that it hangs form the seat and swings back and forth a LOT!. If you ride slowly and dont care then it is great. If you are a road racer then it will bother you. But in any case great for the money! Great product Although there isnt much behind a good seat-back bag, this is on of the best I have had. There is little trouble mouting it, and the zipper is smooth. It can hold a ton of stuff, and the reflector gives it an extra safety boost. All in all, great buy. |
