![]() Delta Airzound Bike Horn By: Delta Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 86 More Information Sound BLAST VERY good product! Performes better than expected and it is loud. This was my third purchase in my search for a horn loud enough to do any good and Ill buy another without reservation. I had tried the battery powered Mega Horn, junk. Stopped working after 3 months and when it did work the bike riders in front of me would be looking up to see what bird was making the noise. Now with the Airzound I have to be careful to not over do the blast so as to not scare riders off the bike trail. Did I say this horn works? AWSOME HORN This horn is louder than a car horn. Awesome. I used to have the little bell horn. TALK ABOUT FROM ONE EXTREME TO THE OTHER. THIS THING ROCKS. Im heard before Im even seen. You cant beat that. Say it Loud and Clear Cant say enough good about this one. With gas prices headed for the upper limits of the solar system..I now ride my bicycle to and from from work tot the tune of 120+ miles per week! I live in los angeles near LAX and the route I take puts me in the road with Angry auto and Bus drivers. These drivers, seem to hate bicycle riders because bicycle riders frequently delay them from making their turns or as in the case of busses, delay their bus stops by 1-3 seconds. So, they race around me and cut me off, on a regular basis, and frequently almost push me off the road...but something about this little horn...shocks them back into the reality that it is not OK to crush me in order to gain 1-3 seconds on their commute. I am going to buy another one and carry it on my person when I am a pedestrian as all too frequently, a lot of drivers seem to carry some animosity towards pedestrians that want to walk in the crossing zone. These are the drivers that feel it is their God given right to block the crossing zone and make pedestrians walk into the intersection to get by them.! Forget the reviewers who say this horn is too loud or possibly not legal...the choice is clear..silently get crushed or honk LOUD and Clear. This little horn does the job!! bike air horn Good loud horn. Easy to use. Works great. Shipped as promissed. Airzound bike horn will rock your world Great product and Amazons price is almost half off the LBS - volume control is very useful, but a couple of toots at full volume gets attention but is not too rude - but if you need full steam for a traffic situation, this little horn is so loud and effective that everyone just stands still. Very easy to install and maintain air pressure with any type of air pump - it is Schrader type by the way which is probably better for this application imo. I usually, if needed, give someone a second or two at full volume, they look as if the world is coming to an end, and then I wave and smile - they will not forget it and hopefully think next time when they are driving to pay better attention on the road. Exceptional product, great price from Amazon, and the best way to get the attention of cell phone talking soccer Moms and all the reckless people out there driving and talking - dont get mad, just get even, and avoid an accident. I bought 2. 1 was defective love the product. use with care, it is really obnoxious. 1 horn was no good at all but it is to trouble to send it back. good luck. It Works!! 1st one I got wouldnt take air and didnt work at all. It took about a week but I got a new one at no cost what so ever. The new one worked right out of the box.Its loud!! Easy to install. One thing I did have a problem with though is refilling it with the small hand pump I carry on my bike.It would not take air at all,but a quick trip to the local QT for some free compressed air and its working great!! Was coming up on a car leaving a parking lot and not watching for anything from the direction I was coming from. A quick blast of my horn from about 30 away and the car stoped rolling and driver looked over to see me. I feel this product is a must have for anyone who commutes in a metro area by bicycle!! Beware! Can become dislodged and jam into your spokes! Make sure you wrap the hose around your handle bar a few times, because the mount kinda sucks and can shake loose, causing the horn thing to dangle into your spokes. The local bike shop stopped selling them since they were threatened with a lawsuit for this flaw. Otherwise this thing is awesome! Loud enough to make people laugh and ask "Howd you get a car horn on your bike?" Must have safety equip. for bikes !!!!! Item got lost in transit...late delivery. Once opened and tested, I knocked the socks of the co-workers with the 115 dB. I use this on bike patrol...people move. Everyone in my unit wants one. Dont be cheap with your safety. GET ONE! GET ONE FOR YOUR KIDS !!! great way to be seen and heard I previously bought a hand-held version of this air horn, and found mounting it on my Vespa to be awkward. Now with the bottle separate from the horn, I will be able to not only install the air horn safely, but also discretely. Mounted on a bicycle or motor scooter, this horn gains more attention than a bell or standard issue horn. It works great, and refills with an ordinary bike pump or from a gas station air pump. I thought these were so great, I bought three, and gave 1 each to my brother and a friend. Huh? What? Can't Hear You! Delta Airzound Bike Horn No longer will I be harassed by unruly squirrel pirates on the forest bike path. Has a tone similar to the European Fiamm air horn and just as loud. Almost too loud Almost deafend myself with it. Find it a bit too much for general chasing pedestrians out of the way. I like a rubber squeeze horn just as effective and less intimidating. If I moved to New York or San Francisco I would probably use it more often. Delta Airzound Horn After almost getting clobbered twice over the winter holidays, I decided to invest in a horn that would get drivers attention. I needed something substantial that was more than a toot-toot or ring-ring. Pluses: Sound -- Strong db level and good pitch (a lot like a boat horn). Weight -- Reasonable for its size. Air Supply Tubing -- lots. I cut it down just a bit and instead of wrapping the tubing around my frame I used a few wire wraps to make it a tidy mount. Minuses: Supply Bottle -- Bulky. Its about the size of a water bottle. Bottle Mount -- Cheezy. I tore off the glued-on cover and flimsy mounts. I placed the bottle in one of my water bottle cages. Horn Mount -- Workable but not great. The supplied collar was not large enough in diameter to fit my road bike bars so I ended up mounting the horn with a couple of criss-crossed wire wraps. Recommendation: I would purchase it again but would like to see improvements as noted above. A connector for a CO2 cartridge might be sweet. Delta Airzound Bike Horn - Lives up to claims So far so good. It was a snap to install and is as loud as I expected. It appears to hold the charge as claimed--even had enough air straight from the factory to startle me when I pressed the button. I rarely need to use a horn but when I do this one will get their attention. Delta Airzound Bike Horn - Lives up to claims So far so good. It was a snap to install and is as loud as I expected. I rarely need to use a horn but when I do this one will get their attention. "Attention getting device" is an understatement! This is one LOUD horn, definitely the biggest bang you can produce on two wheels. Very clever design... using air pressure you can get from your own hand pump. Id give it 5 stars, except the valve is a little on the cheap side. I have to take extra care when disconnecting the tire pump from the valve, or the tubing will stretch. Dont let that little factor stop you from purchasing one of these, however. For the money, it is well worth your safety when faced with dangerous situations on the road. Fantasic, Louder Than Car Horns I commute around five miles everyday in a semi-urban setting, pretty close to cars. Let me first say, this horn is FANTASTIC. I end up using it for fun more often than for warning vehicles. It is so loud youll be kind of scarred to press down on it. Tired of morons laying on their horns for no apparent reason? With the airzound you can return the favor, except a lot more painfully. I have a little ding-ding bell for fun, but when cars come too close or cut me off... Really, dont say to yourself "I wish I had a loud horn right now..." get this and blow that horn when you need it! Very loud. I bought this for my wife, who rides her bike in Seattle, where the drivers are possibly the worst in the country. It has saved her from injury on several occasions, and alerted drivers to her presence countless times. It is extremely loud, and can be heard over cell phones, booming radios, construction noise, etc. You can turn down the volume, but why would you? It usually lasts for about 6 to 8 good blasts before you have to pressurize it again. A standard bike pump will pump it back up. Great! Its great product, i use it daily (the hungarian drivers are so bad, theyre usually come by me too near or come across me on the common road, or didnt gives the right-of way to me at priority sign). My recommendations: If you can, always use the gas station pump, because the horns valve can slack if you use bike pump (because it cramp the valve, and when you pull out the pump, the valve lose strenght. This is the ONLY one weak point of this product. Most IMPORTANT: NEVER USE IT FOR PEDESTRIANS, ANY THE LESS IF HE/SHE IS JAYWALKER!!! I owe my life to this product! This horn has literally saved my life many times. Im a bike commuter in Utah (you think California drivers are bad...) and I would not go near a road without this horn. When its cranked up full blast it gets the attention of drivers like nothing else will. Once I was riding through a green light and a lady took a right turn on red in front of me. I let out the fury of the horn and the lady was so freaked out she actually had a little nervous break-down and pulled over! Its great... Considering the thousands I would have spent on hospital bills, this horn has paid itself of hundreds of times. I owe my life to this product! This horn has literally saved my life many times. I read some of the other reviews and someone said that they had to remove their handle bars to install the Airzound. This is not true. It has a little screw that can be loosened and the bracket opens like PacMan. The horn is ear piercing loud!!!!!!!!! And it can be recharged with any bike or gas station pump. Every car on the road knows Im there when I use it. The only draw back is that my ears ring for a few seconds after I blast the horn. Oh well! Thats a great problem to have! I would recomend it to anyone!!! A must have for bike commuters! I bought this because I commute in traffic every day. I would say it has most likely helped me avoid at least three accidents where a car was either about to pull out in front of me, or make a right turn just after passing me. Its very LOUD, simple design, and friendly to the environment (just uses air from your tire pump). I would not be without it, and I highly recommend it to all cyclists who commute. The "ding ding" of a bell just doesnt cut it, and even people with mp3 players plugged into their ears hear THIS horn!. Peace Awesome! It's LOUD!!!! They WILL hear you with this one. Many years ago I had a driver pull right in front of me... I ended up hitting the side of his car. He drove off. If I had this horn on my bike, I guarantee you hed not have driven away, and he might not have pulled in front of me in the first place. It uses no batteries. Just fill the container (basically an empty water bottle) from the same source you air up your tires and you are set for months. You can quickly learn how to control how loud it is. Just a very gentle and quick tap give a not too irritating "squeak" that lets peds know you are there. But lay into the button and theyll think its a semi behind them. Okay, a semi on helium, but they will hear you. :-) I bought one and came back to buy one for every bike in the house. One thing: If you have kids and you put this on their bike, youll probably want to explain to them its for "emergency use only" otherwise youll go nuts. Its LOUD! AirzoundHorn Rocks Great accessory for your bike. People will step off to the side of any bike path after one quick toot from this horn. I also kept my old bell on the bike for when encountering the older folks. The only con: A full charge of air doesnt exactly give as many blasts as advertised. Probably a good couple dozen on medium power. No great problem though, it only takes a second to recharge the canister. Delta Airzound Bike Horn Review I think this product is an excellent addition to a bicyclist safety precautions, it has saved me from many motorist that tend to overlook or look past bicyclist. It gives them a wake up call that may save your life. Awesome! It's LOUD!!!! They WILL hear you with this one. Many years ago I had a driver pull right in front of me... The bells on my EZ-3 trike can gently let hikers know Im coming up from behind, but theyre a bit wimpy in traffic. The Airzound asserts my presence in a way that cannot be denied. Im not interested in startling people, but there are times in traffic when you need to assert yourself. This does the trick. Dont order from Delta. Concerned that the clamp would break, as some reviewers had said, I ordered an extra one from online from Delta. I did not recieve any kind of confirmation. When I called a couple of weeks later to inquire about the order, I was told about some problems the company has with deliveries from somewhere else in the country and stating that my order had not been placed. I cancelled the order, since the clamp is worked fine without breaking. I called a few days later asking about my credit. After I told them again that I had never gotten any kind of communication about my order, they finally sent me a confirmation of the cancellation. Buy from their distributors and save yourself the hassle. Great product!! Life saver for city commuters! Saved my butt twice today. Two little blasts are great for getting anyones attention, even the lady in the minivan on the cell phone, with her screaming kids in the back. Two little blasts woke her right up and saved me a very sticky maneuver on a rainy day. I use it preemptively when rounding blind corners and have found that two little toots are a great "unobnoxious" way to alert drivers and others. Whats really great so far is that they seem to not only hear me, but react well, with caution and consideration, rather than offense and anger. Thats interesting as other things like bells and electric horns have either not been heard or gotten me an angry response. I wish the air bottle were aluminum instead of plastic and not sure how it will do over time, but Ive had mine for about 200 miles and its doing great. At this price, Id gladly buy a new one every year. Every cyclist should have this and some good front and rear lights along with their helmet. Life saver for city commuters! Loud, but tricky to install Came already charged with air, which quite surprised me. Plenty loud enough. Fits in a bottle cage or to its own frame mounted velcro fastener. Fitting of the horn to the handlebar is a little tricky, as it seems to require removing the handlebar grip (immerse in boiling water) and brake lever to slide the horn over the end of the handlebar, and then refit components. Holy crap is this horn loud! 115db is what the horn is rated at and I believe it. It takes up to 80psi and will give you about 50 good blasts. Its so loud Im often hesitant to use it as it scares the bejesus out of everyone. However, when you really need to wake up the common enough unaware driver, its fantastic. I wish the mounting system was a little better as its a bit tough to reach on a mountain/hybrid bike with grip shifters but on a road bike there wouldnt be an issue. Also you dont have to tie the bottle to the bike as I just leave mine in my bottle cage ... I never use a bottle anyway (I only ride for 45 minutes during my commute). Well worth every penny! Mounts close to handle Just wanted to comment on the first review: On my mountain bike, I mounted the horn mechanism that has the trigger on it, on the handlebars right after my gear shifter. I have NO problem reaching the trigger with my left thumb. Only gave it 4* because it IS a bit flimsy. Also it came with no way to fasten the hose to the frame. Word of caution, when you take it out of the box, DONT press the trigger "accidentally" it is REALLY loud :) Poor Quality Broken after 2nd use I tired to return this item after it broke after the second use. When it initially was received it worked fine. The Horn is extremely flimsy. Fair Warning! WOW, This is a loud horn!! This is exactly what I was looking for in a loud horn. It is easy to use, easy to install, and it is a solid piece of equipment. Did I mention that it is loud? Luckily the loudness is adjustible from a little toot to full air horn volume. When I ride to work now I feel a lot more safe knowing that I will be noticed if I need to be. Ive tested it in traffic with friends driving at various distances away, windows up and down, radio on and off and I can confirm that this horn can be heard under every trial I put it through. Every bike needs this light weight lifesaver. Face it. For every hour you ride youll encounter at least one driver who just doesnt see you. Bicyclists need a loud horn. And the air horn is loud - really loud! (The volume is adjustable - but I keep mine at the loudest.) The air horn is also really light. So it doesnt add weight to your ride. Finally, I really like that to "recharge" it all you need is a bicycle pump. Mine arrived quickly, (two days?) and in good shape. I recommend this vendor and I very strongly recommend this product. It will save your life! By the way, writing reviews is a pain in the butt. I dont normally do it. It's Loud It defitinely gets peoples attention. It give pedestrians quite a startle, so I dont recommend using it on shaky roller bladers. Gets the attention of people in cars with the windows up. It does sound like a clown horn on crack rather than a car horn. The pitch is quite high. It's Loud It defitinely gets peoples attention. You can turn the volume setting down if you prefer. You refill it with your bike pump and you need a schraeder fitting. I have not had a lot of use for it but it is good to know it is there. I would not use it for pedestrians except in a dire emergency. I have not had a lot of use for it yet but it would get the attention of an inattentive driver. Fantastic for Biking in City This is a great add on device for biking on city streets. It can be heard by trucks, busses, etc. Very light weight. If I dont use it much can go weeks on a fill. While it has a "volume control," its tricky to adjust. Its usually too loud for other settings like parks or beach. Sound as promised, poor latching mechanism I have been using the airzound for over a month now cummuting through Nashville. The sound projected by the horn is fantastic. It has afforded me the attention of some of the most reckless, gas-guzzling drivers in the world. (I digress..) Works well at clearing geese off the road, (sorry guys!) The air-recharging mechanism is great, works well even with CO2 inflators. The problem I would point out is the shoddy mechanism by which the horn is latched to the bike. The plastic tab on mine broke going over a minor bump. Bummer. I have secured it with quick-ties, but I consider the latching mechanism a design flaw. This is a great product. Im a bike commuter and Im using it to publicly protest those silly drivers. With volume control turned to maximum(without restraining any air), it sounds nearly as loud as a big truck horn. Of course we dont need that loudness. Usually a light touch would do the work. After pressing the horn several times its natural to gain control over the button. (Two ways to determine the output volume: the switch and how hard you press the button.) The drawback is that the air was suppressed after my first installation. I took my bike to the dealer and a technician repaired the glitch that stifled the air in the valve. Its working now but there seems to be a flaw in mine. The dealer said its a rare case and promised to give a new replacement if its on the blink again, though. For Taiwanese customers, the importing corporation is called Shawn-Oaks Global Inc. as shown on the sticker. I bought this at a local Giant bike shop, and there may be some distributed among Taiwanese auction sites. Great horn - perfect for emergencies This little sucker is loud. And light weight. What more could you want? I havent had any trouble with it loosing pressure while inactive, but it may be that issue crops up after it has been used more (valve wear?). At any rate, Im ready - I have a compressor that sits charged so that I can top off tires etc. I typically do a quick tire and horn pressure check each day before my commute, so I figure Im covered. Easy to Mount, easy to use Had it going in 3-4 minutes. Very loud, it is definitely easy to let distracted drivers know you are there. Does as it states. This horn does as it says. Its insanely loud. Thank goodness it has a volume knob to lower it. Loudness means safety so its a great horn. Runs on air. Does as it states. This horn does as it says. Its insanely loud. Bike airhorn at last a horn for a bike that penetrates the cell phone, ipod and any other attention grabbing device that people substitute for what they should be doing. Be heard on the road I am a car-free cyclist. I love it, but some people are careles or think I have no right to the road. This horn is loud and makes these people think. Use it like a car horn, only when needed. Its light, easy to use and its loud. Being plasic, it may not last long. Bicycle for health, earth and our childrens future. LOUD - Could save your life We purchased this horn for a tandem bike which is more difficult to maneuver than a regular bike. Having the horn warns anyone before they pull out in front of us. This horn is no little bell and cannot be missed. YES, this is LOUD! This horn is awesome for getting attention from cars at intersections. This is definitely TOO loud at its highest setting for peds on the sidewalk - it will at best scare them and at worst tick them off. If you put it at the lowest setting it might be OK but then its not loud enough for traffic. When it dies out you can just refill it with a regular bike pump, no hassle, no batteries. Almost every bike rider that hears it comes up and asks me about where it got it. Once again.. THIS IS LOUD. Underwhelming -- Flimsy & Overpriced Its loud, but not as loud as I expected or hoped. I didnt get to actually use it as the flimsy plastic trigger hinge was factory-broken, right out of the box. A replacement is on the way, but I dont really expect this item to hold up in use. Its all-plastic construction is just too fragile and poorly engineered at stress points. The mounting system is also inadequate. Its very toylike, but toys are usually more rugged than this. In view of what this thing really is, the MSRP is at least four times too high. Great idea, very poor execution. QR mount, nice, Use a soda bottle for more run time, tip on refilling. QR mount means you can remove this from your bike if you are worried about leaving your bike out somewhere - nice feature. The 16 oz bottle comes with velcro for quick mounting, same threads as a soda bottle. I swapped out with a 1L soda bottle for twice the runtime. Variable loudness adjustment is useful - you can dial it down for when youre in a park - gives a little toot - to a full on mack truck blast for riding in traffic. Just make sure you turn it on high when you refill or it will take you forever. Nice QR mount,, Use soda bottle for more run time, don't forget to turn to high to refill. Fantastic - you can dial it down for when youre in a park - gives a little toot - to a full on mack truck blast for riding in traffic. I wish it had a quick release - I take it off now and then and run it off a larger soda bottle for a portable horn... This is great! I bike around the local lakes all winter, and the walkers are all bundled up, often with headphones and dogs on long leases. This gets their attention! Its held up in the ice and snow very well. Excellent, a must have, bike safety horn, but needs pointers for common mounting problems For the last month I have tried out the Airzound air horn for bike with good success. Amazon is selling the feather light horn currently for $18. The horn refills using a normal schrader based pump at 80 PSI. It is nice to have a horn loud as a car horn. Much more legal and proper than throwing water bottles or birds. I am happy with it, once I figured out a location that would allow application of both brakes while sounding the horn for my particular handlebars. (Can be difficult to figure out with the scant instructions given). First, I had to wrap a piece of rubber around my handle bars to make it fit snugly on the bar. Moving the left handle derailleur controller inboard 3/4 inch for the horn mount allowed me to sound the horn with my thumb while still applying the brake. The clearance to the left derailleur was tight, and shift levers are a bit of a reach but it is adequate for my front sprocket shift controller (which being lazy I never shift in traffic anyway). For this position the horn points downward. A point of preventing possible hearing damage. Do not use this horn inside a small room (where the sound will be intensified) or sound it inches from anybodys ears. This sucker is loud! From the moment I saw this horn advertised I knew it had my sons name written all over it. I mean come on, what kid wouldnt love a 115db horn on his bike? Not only did I know he would get a kick out of it, but there is a lot of traffic in our neighborhood and I figured that at the very least if a car didnt see him he could lay on the horn and get their attention. This is a great product and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Great Horn I use this horn on my Trikke,Its easy to set-up and use and refill with air.It really gets peoples attention.I feel very safe with it This is one LOUD horn I spend most of my riding commuting to and from work on bike paths. One of the most annoying things is to come up behind pedestrians that are wandering all over the path. Previously I had one of those ding ding bells, which if heard at all (most pedestrians seem to be listening to music players these days) was almost always ignored. Not any more. At its loudest setting (and it is very adjustable), this horn sounds like one you might find on a truck. I usually have it set on the loudest setting, and give it a short blast when Im maybe 30 metres from someone I want to warn Im approaching. They invariably jump (perhaps anticipating a truck) and then quickly get out of my way. It allows you to warn them and give them plenty of time to react and then do the right thing. An excellent safety device (and I have to say a lot of fun - particularly when youre used to being ignored). Fitting it to my bike was very simple. I use a road bike with drop bars and padded tape on the bars so they end up being quite thick for attaching anything. These worked just fine. I check the pressure of my tyres weekly (I have a floor pump which is probably THE most useful bike related purchase I have made). Now I just check the pressure of the bike horn as well. A couple of pumps and its back to maximum pressure. Even if I neglect to check it, there is sufficient pressure to last a couple of weeks, and I probably use it two or three times a day. A fantastic product. This is one LOUD horn I spend most of my riding commuting to and from work on bike paths. A fantastic product. man this is loud it upset my dogs & you can recharge it with a airpump man this is loud it upset my dogs & you can recharge it with a airpump Essential for the commuter I have owned my Air Zounds for roughly a year now, and I consider it an essential piece of bicycle commuting/city use. As most others testify, its very loud (roughly 110-115db at full volume) and will easily get the attention of drivers even with their windows up and music playing. The testimony from one reviewer about their potential use for mischief is right on, but I dont think thats a reason to outlaw them: should we outlaw cars because they kill people when used irresponsibility? Many hardcore bicycle commuter / car-free living types would agree, but they are hence far a regretably small minority of the population. Anyways, back to the horn. It is reasonably sturdily made, though I doubt its ability to survive a direct impact crash. The mounting can be tricky depending on the type of bicycle you ride and the handlebars you have. One option I found that has made it much more convenient to use on my Nitto Albatross bars (available from Rivendell Bicycles amongst others) is the Minoura Besso mount. It is available from Nashbar, but Im sure others stock it as well (perhaps even here at amazon). It will require shimming on a besso mount, but if you have any kind of cruiser-type bars, the besso mount is a huge boon for mounting the air zounds so the you can have the trigger right under your thumb. Several other detractors noted what appear to be defective instancesn of the product, but by-in-large, quality control appears to be good, as most people appear to have good success with them. Your LBS (local bike shop) may also carry these; they can help with compatability issues and they need your business too! (Sorry Amazon :) The ability to dial down the volume is nice, but cant really be done on the fly, as the control isnt easily accessed while riding; the horn really shines anyways at its highest setting, which is why most people buy it. Others who complain about the schrader valve... if thats really all thats keeping you from buying it, youre seriously nitpicking. The tip about the valve cover over the nipple to prevent unwanted use is a good one, but where to store the valve cover when you want the horn to be ready? In a pocket? Easy to lose... you could just use one off the tires if you have schrader valves. Most pumps now come with both type valves integrated into them, so the valve incompatability issue is somewhat moot. I have only refilled my horn twice in the year that Ive owned it, and I dont use it THAT often (usually less than once a week, as I try not to get in situations where I need it), but its comforting to know that theres something there thats louder than even my bear-roar voice when I need it. It HAS saved my life on several occasions, so its easily paid for itself at this point. I have a separately mounted bell available to my other hand for alerting other bicycles and pedestrians that Im approaching on the left, as that is a far less startling and civil way of alerting them; the horn is for the jerks who are about to kill or otherwise "harm" me. It is also usefull for startling and scaring off charging or attacking dogs, and would also work as an emergency signaling device. Finally, in terms of the storage bottle, Two-Fish makes a velcro-mount waterbottle cage that can mount almost anywhere: Ive placed mine on the underside of my stem and the bottle doesnt take up space in my bottle cages, plus its so light, it makes no difference to my steering there. Stem mounting isnt always an option for everyone, but for some its perfect. The velcro and zip ties supplied with the Air Zounds is a somewhat floppy and unsatisfactory system, but will keep the bottle attached to the bike. Bottom Line: a useful and valuable safety item, particularly for the urban and suburban commuter. As loud as a car horn One time when we were bike touring in the middle of nowhere, some guy laid on the horn for no reason. Two of us with these blasted him back, drowning out his car horn. For safety these are great because even in the coziest of cars, it is still audible. It also sounds like a car horn coming at the motorist. So typically the brakes are put on by the driver, before they even look up from their Treo text messaging orgy. A great hack for these: If you have a front rack or basket is to zip tie a 2 liter bottle under the basket. This gives you an all day virtual buffet of air for the horn. The threading is the same on the 2 liter. As loud as a car horn One time when we were bike touring in the middle of nowhere, some guy laid on the horn for no reason. Great Design - High Performance I find this horn very well designed, but since I cannot use it now (it sounds only when I pump it, not when I push the button) I cannot give it 5 stars. I was able to fix it first time it happened, but cannot figure it out now, no troubleshooting instructions provided. The idea is great, it is loud enough for the cars. Addition: I figured out that I did not get enough air, now it works great! It is a must for the NYC road biking when cars do not obey traffic laws. This has saved my life I commute to work on my bike and there are no bike lanes in my area. I am forced to ride on the sidewalk or in the street and it amazes me how unaware drivers are of bicyclists in traffic. This horn is so loud it gets the attention of drivers that are stupid enough to not look both ways at a driveways and intersections. This was easy to install and its unobtrusive even with my headlight and bike computer also on my handle bars. I no longer have to fear "eating" any fenders on my way to work anymore...GREAT PRODUCT! really loud Great for the price. Louder than I thought it would be. Only downside is having to refill after each ride, which is not too difficult. Great and fun way of getting someones attention. Good value for price paid! A breeze to install. Great on summer days when car windows are open and the bad drivers ears are about 4-5 feet away from the blast as they cut me off. Once saw a small dog run through their invisible fence after my blast! I use a valve stem extensdr to inflate it, using my particular bicycle pump. Wish they had an automotive version for DIY underhood install. Doesn't fit on 31.8mm bars I have a Kona Jake with Easton OS road bars (31.8mm) and the horn does not fit on it. If I was to remove the tape on the straight part of the bars I could put it there but it would be nigh useless -- it needs to fit near the center so it can be reached when youre riding upright. There is no way to mount it on the horns or on the drop bars so I cant use it at all. It is VERY loud however. The sound is very high-pitched like the horns they use sometimes to start races. Id like something that sounded more like a car horn, but YMMV. Doesn't fit on 31.8mm bars I have 31.8mm bars and the mount for the horn is too small to fit around them. Its a custom mount made of plastic thats not interchangeable, so I dont really have any options for modifying it to fit. Do not test blow it inside the home unless you want the dog and cats to run and hide. It is LOUD. I am a fairly new bicycle commuter and I was looking for a horn that would get the attention of traffic if needed. It works. It was ridiculously easy to install, leaving plenty of room for the water bottle placement. I have a comfort bike and its placement on the handlebar is not perfectly optimal, but it is not a strain to hit the trigger hard with my thumb. You can not beat the Airzound for the price and its deceptive simplicity. It does the job. Airzound is simple, loud, and holds pressure I got this horn to get the attention of drivers who just dont see bikes. Its so loud you have to use it judiciously. Ive sounded it a dozen times so far without re-charging, which is a very easy procedure. Ive also used it to amuse neighborhood kids and as a starting gun for mile races at the track. Great product. Makes your presence known to half blind drivers who dont seem to see bicyclists. Easy to recharge. A real good investment in cycling safety. Hose can't take the heat I was happy with my horn for the longest time, well about 3 years. I moved to Spain and brought my bike with me. Now, I dont know if this is from age or from the extreme heat here in Seville, but the air hose first started yellowing, and then cracks appeared, and then it was all over. I have not seen anywhere that offers replacement hoses, so I guess Im outa luck. Id buy another, but theyll ship and handle me up the kazoo with overseas freight. For those in hot climates, beware the yellowing and cracks! Let down Product would not take, much less hold, a charge. Turned valve in all four directions and could not charge product. Disappointing to say the least after all of the GOOD reviews i read about this product. Would have liked a replacment product instead of a refund. Piece of junk OK, its loud. Other than that, I think I wasted my money. A good whistle is cheeper and fail proof. Here are the problems: 1. Schraeder valve stem. I have Presta valve tires, I dont want to carry another pump or convert the Presta pump to Schraeder everytime I need to pump the thing up. 2. After bleeding off the the initial air, I could not get it re-pressurized using either a floor pump or a bike (frame) pump. The problem, again, is the valve stem being too short to fit into my pump. Lightweight and LOUD! I got this horn for the same reason as everyone else - because of close-calls with cars whose drivers were either oblivious or just plain rude. As others have noted, this horn is startlingly loud, which is just what you want when a driver cuts in front of you. I have used it two or three times since purchasing it. I cant say it prevented an accident (the car was already past), but it was satisfying to know that the driver knew he cut me off and I was pissed. In the most serious incident in recent weeks, the driver ran a red light and had to swerve to avoid me, cutting in front of me by just a few feet. I was on the brakes and he was past before I could even think of the horn. So, dont go for the horn when you should be hitting the brakes. As for the design of the horn, I have only one complaint; in order to fill the air bottle, you either have to use a handheld pump, or lay the bike on its side to use a floor pump, because the fill point is on the handlebars. But I suppose there is no real solution to that problem. The design is simple, and thats the way I like it. People have complained that they couldnt mount it close enough to the hand grip to operate it with their thumb without moving their hand off the grip, but if youre riding a mountain bike, you probably have thumb shifters, so again, I know of no simple solution to that. Mine is mounted just inboard of the shifter, and I can just reach it with my thumb while my pinky is still on the hand grip. I do like the fact that it only takes a few pumps to fill it to the recommended 80 psi, and with that you get quite a few blasts out of it. Just be aware that the air bottle is about the size of a 16-oz soda bottle, and it either has to take up a water bottle cage, or you have to find another place for it (a mounting "sleeve" and zip ties are provided, all ready to mount). Overall, Im quite satisfied with it. Piece of junk OK, its loud. Other than that, I think I wasted my money. A good whistle is cheeper and fail proof. Here are the problems: 1. Schraeder valve stem. After bleeding off the the initial air, I could not get it re-pressurized using either a floor pump or a bike (frame) pump. The problem, again, is the valve stem being too short to fit into my pump. Better than expected It has a simple design that is well thought out and produced. Very light, easy to install, and plenty loud enough. Im really glad I got it. GREAT!! LOUD LOUD!! It as loud as a 18 wheeler truck! But the pitch is a bit higher overall a great product would recommend Life saver 3 times in 2.5 years Bought in 2003 October and used in over 7000km (4300 mi) of mostly commuting, the horn helped turn three close shaves less nasty. No other device gets a vehicle driver awake and on the brakes as quickly. The bell (pling!) is not worth a toot and a holler through a cars windows and noises. Only defensive riding and the great braking power of a recumbent bike have saved my hide more often. Minor gripes, a) the valve stem is a bit short and does not fit some pumps. b) in its second winter, the horn lost some of its loudness, only to return in spring. I may have kinked the hose though. One Falling Star Bought it, tried it, and returned it. Yes, it is loud, but that is all I can say good of it. The clamp design is poor. I could not get it to fit on the handle bar of my bike. An easier to install clamp that is more adjustable is needed. If you only have one water bottle carrier on your bike, it is difficult to find an acceptable location for the air reservior. The supply line from the air reservoir to the horn did not appear to be able to be shortened. The volume control is not easily accessed. Overall it is cheaply made and I doubt that it would last more than one biking season. Big hit with the kids!s by: lowdough On: 2006-04-21 Got this for my girlfriends 14 year old son. She was skeptical, but cooperative, but he loved it right from the very beginning. Easy for him to install himself with just a couple pointers. A couple days later, his buddies were hanging around the garage fooling around with it. Its a big hit and lots of fun. Would have gotten 5 stars if the reservoir could provide more beeps and if it were built a little more sturdily. Truly a lifesaver ... but rated XXX (Adult MINDS only!) This product is terrific, and is vitally needed by the serious MATURE (by disposition) commuter/utility/recreational cyclist in traffic. Its amazing how drivers, even well-intentioned ones, will either fail to see a bicyclist, or WILL see, actually smile a warm smile, then think, "Good! nothings coming," .... and pull out from a stop-sign, a T-intersection stop, a right-on-red, or will make a left directly into my path ... as Im clipping along at 16 or 28 mph. Ditto, drivers will parallel park on Main Street to shop, and eagerly open the drivers door, AFTER quickly checking the mirror (maybe expecting me to veer out into car traffic?). Air zound can TRULY SAVE A LIFE, when a driver, cocooned behind glass and steel, is oblivious to surroundings, illegally using the cellphone underway, or blaring the stereo. This can remind a driver (as someone astutely said earlier), by way of a brief JUDICIOUS reminder-tap, that bicycles are vehicles too, and cyclists, people too. For some short time, they may be kinder/gentler more ALERT drivers. A passing car full of laughing teen boys, buzzing me way too close, just for "kicks," got a SOUND LESSON the second time (their windows were down), as they jumped in their skins, turned pale, and ceased laughing. But caution please... Dont put this gizmo at the disposal of an immature person. Those who get a high out of scaring pedestrians, where a friendly heads-up greeting would do fine, or into terrifying anyone not threatening their safety, should not have this LOUD aid for their mischief. Frivolous misuse (ABuse) of a 90 decibel device, is antisocial and illegal, and works AGAINST us bicyclists. That kind of behavior, mostly by kids, has ironically prompted some states to deprive the bicyclist of the legal use of ANY onboard sound device, tinkle-bells included. Just as many jurisdictions have set up mandatory helmet use for kids below a certain age, they could deprive kids below a certain age of devices like this. The temptation to harass, for novelty and kicks, is too great for kiddie mentalities. Meanwhile, we grant (oops, we REQUIRE of) all drivers, access to horn buttons in their 2500 lb, sound-dampened, rolling fortresses, and even in a bus or trucking rig. Of course, those are needed ... but are so much more needed, on a 35 pound curbweight open vehicle, a few rails and wires, with little better personal protection than a foam helmet, the cyclists experience and reflexes, and (as next best warning device) her or his own voice. However, many drivers routinely blast the horn when overtaking within 20 feet of even a serious, steady-tracking, safety conscious adult cyclist wearing a helmet, likely thinking they are being helpful. We already HEARD them coming, which helps us to brace a little, for the unexpected! An Air zound can let them, in turn, hear US coming, even if they are high on the music, lost in conversation, or spaced-out on daydreams. Two minor product critiques, almost trivial versus the product benefits: 1. While the Air zounds trigger to release a warning blast is excellent, it is unitized with the horns housing. Some brake + shifter combo sets prevent snugging that up near-enough to your trigger-thumb, and so a remote compact (stick-on?) trigger button, to splice into the airhose, would be a useful upgrade in some fraction of installations. The Air zound benefits depend on fast/seamless access. In an emergency, safety may dictate never taking fingers from the brake levers. 2. The Air zounds anchoring could be made a bit more substantial (though if the horn is bumped free, it tags along, dangling by its strong lil hose). Brief "tip:" To avoid banshee blasts while manhandling your bike in a quiet place, to bring it in/out of doors, do minor equipment fixes, etc., just slip a spare tire-valve cap over the combo fill/trigger valve, to lock it out. Works great when you park-and-lock, too -- curious young fingers wont know what is blocking use of horn. Just remember to remove the "safety," before riding again. Enjoy this BLAST of a cycling-safety product, and, er... keep the rubber side (your tires) down! ;-] Works as advertised I had a little difficulty finding a place to mount it on my Catrike recumbent tricycle and ended up mounting it on my left steering column and installing the bottle in my water bottle holder. Mounting it to a bicycle should be easy. The horn is loud (but adjustable for volume). I use the horn about every time out either to let kids know Im coming if they are playing out in the road, scare dogs off, and let people in cars know Im coming if they start to pull out from a stopsign or back out in the road from their driveway. The really great feature is that it is easy to refill the air supply bottle the same time I top the air off in my tires (I use an electric air pump). Highly recommend this horn. Easy to install and use, and very loud! But clunky. The Airzound lives up to its billing as "the worlds loudest bike horn." Dont test it inside -- as I did. I dont think my 4-year-old has forgiven me yet. And it is easy to install, use and maintain -- a few pumps to the horn when Im filling my tires is all Ive ever needed. My problem is that I havent found a comfortable place to mount the air bottle. The down-tube on my bike is occupied with a water bottle/cage, so I mounted the air bottle on the top tube. If I mount it near the front, my knees hit it. If I mount it near the rear of the tube, I rub it with my thighs. I eventually took the horn off my bike and Im more comfortable. But Im sure Ill miss it someday, when I try to yell at an oblivious driver. Because man, this horn is LOUD!!! Great Bicycle Horn by: gwpowellbooks On: 2005-11-23 Well it got its first use on my way home from the store. A huge truck pulled right into the cross walk and stopped. One loud blast and the driver moved his rig! Totally worth it. Now thats on my bike I have a tendency to be a little less forgiving to drivers. That guy who pulled out in front of me, ok, Im not going that fast and he made it, but it was rude of him, so two light taps and he slowed down and drove sort of sheepishly. I think that he knew that pulling out wasnt the right thing to do... There is a volume control and I have it set pretty loud for autos as you cant really adjust it while riding and pay attention to the road. Peds still get a "hey buddy!", as my voice is still working fine. Im using the velcro attachment as my bike has only one water bottle cage and it works fine. The hose is plenty long enough to mount it wherever you want it. Not having to buy refills is really nice, its light. easy on and off for commuting storage. Deafeningly Loud ...as much as a car horn by: porkch0p On: 2005-11-17 If you use this horn, be sure you have a mobile hand air pump on your bike, as this horn gets unfilled quite easily after 10 uses during traveling, because it operates on air pressure. If you honk, you lose air, and thats normal. Refilling it takes 2 mins, and youre back on your way. Its EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE. On a bike path, even 4 seconds of honking, gets joggers OUT OF THE WAY, and those walking their dog TURN THEIR HEADS AROUND, and others walking MOVE OVER TO THE GRASS, OFF THE PATH, as needed. Its just an incredible horn! As for durability, it needs to be protected from abuse... dont damage it, just be careful not to do anything unusual. It takes some getting used to, at first, due to the bulky bottle, but Ive found its easy to ignore after a few rides, with the velcro attachment, just behind the handle-bars on a road bike. Obnoxious, in a good way THE vital piece of bike gear for any commuter. Sharing the road with cars just got a whole lot safer with my Airzound Bike Horn. This is an airhorn, uses the same basic design youve heard from a Mack Truck. The difference is that this airhorn mounts on your bicycle and is loud enough for any driver to hear you. It has a really useful volume adjustment, and even on its loudest setting has enough of a reservoir to last for 30 uses. It even recharges with your bike pump! It installs on the bike very easily and Ive actually left it in the bike-cage as I strip and modify my bike frequently. I still havent needed to refill the bottle despite having honked a few times, which was one of my major concerns over the claims of "80 30-second" honks per fill. My main negative with this is that is it *really* loud and scary so pedestrians have one of two reactions: 1) they panic and run randomly away (not always "away" either) or 2) they dont make the connection this is a bike and look around for a car or something else. So Im considering re-installing my bell for pinging at pedestrians on the mix-use bike paths.... Its small, lightweight, and loud. When it runs out of air, a few pumps with my bike pump and its ready to go. It was easy to install and took no more room than a standard water bottle. The horn is inconspicuous on my handlebars but is exactly what I need to get the attention of the driver pulling into my lane with their windows closed and radio blaring. Great Product I second everything Kuyper wrote in his review, and am giving this product the extra star he left out because Ive had my horn for almost 5 years and its still going strong (and loud). Ive been pleasantly surprised that this lightweight tubing and plastic canister can hold close to 100psi for a very long time without leaking. Wicked! This is a fantastic product. Fits in minutes and the trigger (thats really the best word for it!) is in easy reach next to my gearshift lever. Its also dayglo orange, so easy to find in a hurry if you need to look down to locate it (though you should really be concentrating on braking and steering during a crisis :) ) I commute by bicycle daily and got sick and tired of idiots in cars and trucks pulling wild maneuvers in front of me. Ive only had this for 2 days and already avoided a couple of near misses (turned them into wide misses) with it. When cranked to full volume it *really* gets drivers attention - even with their windows wound up and Eminem rattling their mirrors! Way more effective than my little ding-ding bell! Ive currently got it fitted into my 2nd bottle cage, but I think I may switch to the supplied velcro/zip tie arrangement so that I can strap it to my top-tube and regain my 2nd bottle cage for longer rides or a headlight battery. 4 stars cos I cant yet vouch for its longevity - well see how it stands up to a Seattle Winter! :) Great Product I second everything Kuyper wrote in his review, and am giving this product the extra star he left out because Ive had my horn for almost 5 years and its still going strong (and loud). Extremely Loud, Bulky As a consummate cyclist of Chicago, Boston and New York, I have experienced the dangers of urban riding for nearly fifteen years. Not being seen or heard leads to many hazardous, and sometimes life threatening, situations. The Air Zound horn will announce your presence to any driver of any vehicle, including eighteen wheelers and Brinks armored cars, within a city block. However, at 115 decibels, riders run the risk of being ticketed by the police. But more importantly, unleashing the Air Zound horn can inspire road rage. Clearly, this is not for alerting pedestrians or drivers of vehicles in non-emergency situations. The Air Zound horn achieves its intended purpose. Be aware, however, you could seriously upset drivers, residents, and police in the vicinity. This potential danger leads to one of my main arguments against the design. Delta chose not to employ consumable gas cartridges, presumably to save the user money. However, I doubt this horn could be frequently implemented without the rider getting arrested or assaulted. Hence, it should be seen and used as an emergency tool powered by a compact CO2 cartridge. At the same time, it would be nice to have the entire mechanism on the handlebars with a trigger within reach of the riders thumb or index finger. The current arrangement utilizes a water bottle-like air reservoir connected via a hose to a horn mounted on the handlebars. This is less than ideal as the rider must either use an entire water bottle cage or strap it to the frame. Also, the rider must take one hand off of the handlebar grip to squeeze the trigger, which is unsuitable for emergency situations. In summary, the Air Zound horn is an incredibly loud bicycle horn for unique situations. If you can tolerate the size and exposure to animosity from police and civilians alike, use it with care. Pros Really, really loud No batteries or consumable items such as CO2 Lightweight Cons Bulky Trigger far from grips/shifter Potential ticketing / animosity Extremely Loud, Bulky As a consummate cyclist of Chicago, Boston and New York, I have experienced the dangers of urban riding for nearly fifteen years. Pros Really, really loud No batteries or consumable items such as CO2 Lightweight Cons Bulky Trigger far from grips/shifter Potential ticketing / animosity Gets auto drivers attention so they see you. Ive had this product now for a little over a month. It works great. It produces an extremely loud blare of sound and gets the attention of auto drivers who dont see you and makes them see you - it demands their attention. This horn is VERY LOUD - the loudest on the market that I know of. It refills easily with a regular bike pump with Schraeder adaptation (I have a good Specialized floor pump that adapts on the fly to either Presta or Schraeder valves). The only complaint I have (reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is the screw on the clamp is getting stripped at the head (philips - and the driver is stripping it after switching it back and forth from my road and mountain bikes - Ive switched about 8x total - so I loosened and then tightened the screw a total of 16 times - and its stripped. Hopefully Ill be able to find a replacement at local hardware store - hope I can find the right threading and length and screw head size - otherwise theres always contacting the maker for a screw. Also - the clamp rattles on the bike even when tight - the way the horn attaches to the clamp is not flush and snug - minor issue, also reason for 4 stars instead of 5. |
