kryptonite u-lock is convenient and strong     On: 2008-02-24

The u-lock w/combination is nice to use in a place where you may not have a key handy. I did have to glue the end piece back on when it fell off after only one or two uses. This did not affect the function anyway, but was easily glued. It seems to be one of the few combo u-locks around. I use this to lock up a stall in my barn and have 2 of them, both set to the same combination. Seems to be a good lock, though I have not tried to cut it, of course.
Works well!     On: 2007-12-08

Ive been using this lock for over a month now. It works very well. Just a word of caution: Be careful when you reset the lock code the first time.
Bad Lock With No Customer Service     On: 2007-11-25

When I received the lock, the factory set combination did not work. There was no way for me to initially unlock the product to then set my personal combination. I contacted Niagara Cycle Works, the seller, and all I received was an automated email back. Now I am stuck with a useless lock....thanks Niagara Cycle Works.
Convienient     On: 2007-11-06

Convenient - no keys to worry about - wish they made a stronger version however.
Great combo lock!     On: 2007-10-15

Ive owned this lock for about a year and have been very pleased with it. Ive owned keyed U-locks(that bike stolen) and combo thick cable+padlocks (awkward, worried too much about it being cut) before.
I wanted a combo u-lock so I didnt have to constantly dig out my keys from the bottom of my bag. In the past year of daily use I have never had a problem with the lock resetting as one of the other reviewers reported. The rubber coating around the U part does a fine job not scratching the paint, but it has torn some. Ive been hard on this lock, i ride with it rattling around, hanging from my handlebars, and it is still going strong. Ive even wielded it at a guy who tried to follow me home once, and he backed off pretty fast, THATs security. This lock would be perfect if they made a mini u-bolt version.
In short:
+convenient
+fast
+secure
+sturdy
+self-defense in a pinch
-wish it came in mini size as well
-rubber coating not terribly durable

Beware of combination locks     On: 2007-07-24

Beware - this lock reset itself and I needed a locksmith to come cut the lock so I could free my bike. I reset the combo, which was easy enough per the instructions. My new combo worked for a few days, until randomly one day I couldnt unlock the lock. I called Kryptonite - a very accessable company by phone. The rep said that indeed this can happen to cobo locks sometimes. They said I can send them the receipt from the locksmith back to them along with the cut off lock. In turn they will reimburse me for the locksmith and send me a new lock - even a key lock if thats what I prefer ( I will certainly go w/ a key this time). Kryptonite has a good reputation otherwise and thier customer service was very good. BOTTOM LINE: Choose a key lock over a combination lock.
the best lock around     On: 2007-01-09

If you live on a bicycle as I do, it helps to have a lock that one can snap on and off in a second and not worry about keys or combinations while running into a store. When leaving my bike for longer periods, moving the combo one notch does the trick and even at night it is easy to unlock. If you have tendency to lose keys, this is also the lock for you!
