Mongoose Renegade = piece of junk

This bike advertises that it is aluminum, and the main frame is, but the swing arm is steel and very very heavy but very very weak when it comes to lateral stability,This is due to very poor engineering of the swing arm bushing and the lateral bracing of the two sides of the swing arm. the braces on mine cracked at the welds leaving the two sides of the swingarm to float about which would cause the rear wheel to come loose from the dropouts. This is a grossly overpriced poorly constructed piece of junk.

Son was transitioning from little bike to grown up bike. This is a great bike for that! Hes very happy! Seems like great quality.

Good all around bike

I have ridden this bike around town and out on the trails and it has been a great bike.I have read a few bad reports but, if you keep it clean and do regular maintanence, it will hold up very well.I had to replace the rear derailler once after taking a steep drop full of roots and getting it caught up in the rear spokes but it was cheap to fix.This bike will take intermediate trails all day but for the expert riding you need a little better bike.I recentley bought a new bike and now the Mongoose makes a great loaner when taking friends to the trails.This was a great bike to introduce me to trail riding.

ok if you aren't serious about biking

I got this bike and used it for biking to school and back and forth from friends houses and it was great. Over the summer I became actively involved in mountain biking and this bike failed to meet the standards I was looking for in a reliable mountain bike. The seat isnt well designed, the main frame becomes loose after too much hard riding, the shocks lock up, everything about the bike just breaks if you use it for mountain biking.
