Perfect first time HRM 5/5     On: 2009-12-15

This was the first HRM I owned, and it is perfect for beginners. Everything is very simple to understand, and set up. The unit is attractive looking, and highly accurate (you can see your HR rise the moment you start moving), with enough real features to keep you motivated, and actually put it to good use either in the gym or on the road.

One thing Ive since discovered, is that Polar HRMs are much easier to use than some other models (check a few manuals online to see for yourself). The F4 is very simple: simply enter some initial data (age, sex, weight), and then put the strap on (wet the reverse with some tap water) and youre ready. Click the start button. The unit has useful exercise views (duration, time in zone, calories, avg heart rate, max heart rate) which you can cycle through with a button press as you work out. Once finished, you view an exercise summary screen, which displays all this information. The data is then added to a totals file (which can be reset at will -- ie: at the end of the week).

All in all, this is perfect for a beginner. It does enough for it to be useful for a couple of years, before you will want to move onto something more complicated. Dont spend £150+ on a HRM first time; try something like this and make sure you need extra features. This worked like a dream for me, and Id recommend it to anyone looking for a simple (but effective) heart rate monitor.
great product!     On: 2009-12-10

works just like it should. accurate. easy to read. i love it!
Good HRM - But make sure you read the directions.     On: 2009-12-04

Read the manual. One reviewer complained that it beeps constantly - she should have reset her target zone. I lamented that it kept reading too high, or became stuck on one heart rate even if I sprinted or stopped, or it displayed just zero zero. I discovered (by reading the directions)that I needed to turn my Blackberry off. It works fine if my phone is off!
Does what it needs to.     On: 2009-11-30

Does exactly what I wanted, keeps me posted on my heart rate and gives me a nice workout summary at the end. The summary includes calories burned, max heart rate, workout length and total time your heart rate was in the zone. The zone being whatever the watch calculates based on the information you enter in the setup. The setup of the watch asks for age, weight, height and sex. So the watch can be used by men or women, the womens version of the F4 is just a smaller watch then the mens version. They are identical otherwise. Overall a nice simple heart rate monitor.
Awesome watch     On: 2009-11-08

The watch is light-weight, comfortable, and helpful. For a first-time fitness watch buyer, I am impressed with the calorie counting feature and the heart-rate monitor. I do wish that it had a back light though. Recommended buy.
Great product     On: 2009-10-18

I live in Rio - Brazil. Bought this item on Nov 6th and received on the 17th at Good Deal Electronics. It is a very nice watch, good design and very easy to use. In fact I managed to start using without reading the manuals. Another great advantage is the size. I guess Its smaller than the mid-sized ones. Good, since I dont like big watches. I am very happy with this purchase, which was a good deal!
Watch Band Problems     On: 2008-12-30

I bought the F4 model last year. After 6 months the band broke so I emailed Polar about it, along with the serial number of the watch. They sent the replacement parts for the wrong watch, so I emailed them again...and again...and again. They never got back to me, so Ive given up.

The sad part is that the monitor worked well and would even synch with all of the equipment at the health clubs I visited, without having to hold the machine grips. I really liked that! But without a watch its no good.
