Excellent Product, But Will Flex And Whip Back Under Heavy Loads     On: 2010-02-01

I agree with all of the accolades this basket has received in the over 100 reviews for it here. These baskets are a very practical solution for carrying grocerys, etc. with commuters. I keep two insulated Whole Foods bags with me and they fit perfectly in the Wald baskets, and most importantly - they zip close so your items are secure. Because these baskets are rigid, the easiest way to load them up is to put the "empty" Whole Foods" bag in the basket first, then transfer your groceries to them. That way you get a perfect fit to the basket with how you pack your goods. I have tried a couple of times to jam a bulging Whole Food bag inside the basket before and its just not going happen.

These baskets are very stealth when folded up, cannot be stolen, and who cares when it rains with a metal basket? All huge advantages over expensive grocery panniers like Jandd, etc. Mounting is simple... well simply two words... ZIP TIES! I cant say enough about those little suckers and how they come in handy. I use 6 on the top and 3 on the bottom for each basket. But heres the only limitation of this product. I had to mount the baskets staggered back just a little so that my size 13s dont hit them - again, very common that folks do this. And the zip ties have a huge load capacity when used in a multiple fashion, so no problem there. But the bottom half of the basket has nothing to mount to as most racks narrow down to a point at the bottom mount. So with that, if you load these up heavy, expect some whipping and flex as you ride. Now when I say heavy, Im talking 53 pound total. When I go to Trader Joes, etc. I load up on all of the heavy produce, rice milk, etc. and between that and my Kriptonite Lock, my loads have weighed in at 53 pounds.

Granted, this is hardly a fair test, but it is real world for me. And I have to be extremely careful as I ride because the flex in the baskets will cause a whip-back strong enough to knock me off balance. Yes, the solution is to just use my trailer in this situation, but I dont bring that with me from the ride to and from work. So just take a look at the bottom portion of the rack you are going to mount these baskets to, and if there is not a lot of width for your mounts to stabilize the bottom of your baskets, expect this kind of whipping behavior if you have a "very" heavy load.

Still - I give it 5 stars because its not a design fault of the basket that it doesnt have more to attach to on the bottom of my rack.
Nice sturdy bike racks but with some possible cons to consider     On: 2010-01-03

These rear baskets fit fine with my trek rear bike rack. They are high quality steel wire frame, are sturdy, and are collapsible by design. However, if you leave them so that they are collapsible they do vibrate and make noise. I prefer to keep them deployed and use tie straps and black tape to keep all the moving pieces together so it is much quieter. Even so, when you do this the baskets tend to stick out pretty far to the side and you have to be aware of them back there or you hit something with them. Another thing is that they weigh several pounds each. I purchased two and when both installed on my bike it adds a good ten pounds and that doesnt include the weight of any objects you put in them. Thats could be a lot more weight than many people want to bike around with.
Great but bottom of basket can drop out     On: 2009-12-04

I have these on our tandem on which I take my son to school every day that weather permits and the heavy book bag goes in the basket. They are great--strong, roomy, and the folding feature is essential for big baskets I think. Beware of this however: When you fold the basket, the bottom of the basket flips up, and since the sides are all loose-jointed and rickeldy-rackeldy it can also flip down without warning, spilling your stuff on the road. Theres just one little tab/hook thing to support the bottom and it relies on gravity. If you hit a good bump the bottom can jump up and the tab can release. And both times its done it to me, I didnt know for quite a while! The fix is to keep it tied together with a wire twistie or two from a bread bag. It will hold OK but its easy to remove for folding. You can see the tab in the photo, centered on the bottom outside edge of the basket.
great baskets     On: 2009-11-02

Very good baskets for bicycles. I am able to do grocery shopping with these and it works well!
Rear folding baskets     On: 2009-10-27

Works great. Holds quite a bit. I had to adjust for position on rack but not too difficult to do.. The clips to hold the baskets folded take a bit of adjusting also but quite simple..
Bicycle Rear Rack Grocery Baskets, Folding - Wald 582     On: 2009-10-19

I purchased this set of baskets for my wife. They were easy to install on a recommended seat post bracket. Along with the brackets which came with the baskets I used a couple of wire ties in mounting to give them a tighter feel. Each basket holds a full shopping bag of groceries and does not inhibit any function in the ride.
Nice baskets     On: 2009-10-16

I like this product very much. It was just what I wanted, baskets that were not in the way when they were not needed and deployed easily when they were. I have one small quibble. The hardware included was just screws and nuts. No lock washers or nylok nuts.
I think that is irresponsible for an item attached to a bicycle.
I used loctite on mine because I wouldnt care for them to fall off when I least expect them to (like when they are full of groceries.I read some reviews where people had attached them with cable ties which is a good backup plan but not good as a primary means of attachment.
Solid, Dependable     On: 2009-10-09

I have owned and installed two previous basket set-ups similar to this in the last 15 years of biking. These are the most solid and most dependable in that the bottom trap does not bounce open on bumps even with light weight in them. A consequence of being solid (I have the black ones)is that they are also the heaviest-that is the only reason I didnt give five stars.Installation of these always requires patience, but the supplied hardware worked well for me. I used nylon zipties in 3 spots on the undercarriage for each basket. No ratteling. Hard to open until the clasps get worn in a bit. A shot of WD40 helped this.Again as others have stated, set them back a bit to allow heel clearance. I am a size 8 boot and I put them back two inches- I think 1 1/4 would have been enough.I bet if you get the non-black ones without the coating they would be lighter. The quality of not bouncing open might increase, though, because the black basket coating is somewhat sticky if you know what I mean.
Perfect product for biking to grocery store and markets     On: 2009-10-02

The folding wire baskets work perfectly for light grocery shopping trips. As other reviewers have said (on Amazon and google), the little metal mounting clips that come with the baskets are flimsy and in my case, impossible to lock around the bike rack because the rails of the rack are too thick. I used heavy duty plastic zip wires (85lb load) and added couple of nylon luggage ties to go between the two baskets and across the top of the bike rack just in case the zip ties break. Also by having the nylon straps with some extra length, I can use these to help tie anything down to the rack if need be. Great value- and the baskets get nicely out of the way when stowed. Only one problem is the latching mechanism which is a very tight clip. Theres a trick to it though - you have to get used to pushing the outer screen of the basket up in order to free the clip. But its good that it doesnt un-clip easily and thats probably why you have to push the basket up to unclip.
A litle clunky, but supremely functional     On: 2009-09-18

These are sturdily-constructed steel wire baskets. Clamping them onto your rear rack is straightforward with the provided 3 brackets per side, though I suspect Ill end up coming back with some Loctite once everything settles in...Id have preferred to see nylon locknuts.

What I really love about these is the choice they allow - - I can choose to fold one out if it gets too hot to wear my jacket or stop by the store on the way home. When folded flat, theyre well out of the way.

The downsides: theyre quite heavy (about 5 pounds), and when in use they make sounds not unlike the clatter of a shopping cart. But you know, Ill worry about the weight more once I lose the 40 pounds I need to lose...and that sound I hear is the sound of usefulness. Ill cope.

An excellent solution for commuters and those who just want their bicycle to be a little more useful. At the price, its a STEAL.
My review     On: 2009-09-14

The bicycle baskets are exactly what I wanted, unfortunately they do not correctly fit on the style of bike that I have ( so you must be extra careful when ordering) but I was able to attach them to my roommates bike. Ive been able to put all my books and even some small groceries in the baskets. It makes riding a bike much easier.
Excellent     On: 2009-09-14

BUY IT! IT IS THE CATS MEOW! I USE IT TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE ALMOST EVERY DAY ON MY MOTORIZED CRUISER BIKE AND GET COMPLIMENTS ON IT EVERY TIME I GO OUT. I COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER PRODUCT!
Good, but heavy.     On: 2009-09-12

These baskets are very handy to have and the folding option is really nice. It doesnt fold as smoothly as Id like, and the baskets, although only a couple pounds, noticeably make the bike heavier when you are trying to carry it or walk it somewhere. I would still recommend them, however, because they are the best baskets Ive seen.
great purchase     On: 2009-09-10

These baskets are the best. I have an older schwin and they fit and LOOK great on my classic bike. The basket is large enough to hold all these cloth shopping bags that the supermarkets are selling for .99. They will easly hold a weeks worth of groceries. But the best part is that they FOLD AWAY and take up NO SPACE in my garage.
Handy baskets for commuting     On: 2009-09-08

Having recently purchased a bike for commuting to school, I knew I needed some way to carry my cargo. I saw these and liked the idea of baskets that would fold flat when not in use - very handy as space is often limited in the bike racks on campus. I have had these for about three weeks and have been very satisfied, with a few minor quibbles. As a previous reviewer stated, the screws provided are impossibly short. After a few frustrating attempts at installing the baskets with the screws provided, I broke down and went to Lowes for longer ones. My rack has thicker bars than most, so this may have been an issue. Also, the clip that holds the baskets in place when folded is very stiff and hard to flip up and down. My husband had to wiggle them back and forth about a dozen times before I could even get them to move. This problem seems to be going away with use, however.

Im very short (52") with short legs, so Ive not had trouble with my heels hitting the baskets. I made sure to install them as far back as possible to head off that problem. Im not sure what the weight limit is on these - I am guessing the limiting factor is how much weight your rack will hold, as the baskets themselves seem surprisingly sturdy. Combined with a cargo net to secure everything, these baskets have more than enough room to hold everything I need on campus.
Good sturdy baskets, bad hardware     On: 2009-09-03

Using these baskets is easy as they are sturdy and hold two Trader Joes polypropelyne bags relatively easily. The problem was the installation hardware was inadequate and thus we ended up buying two longer bolts to finish that installation. Also, the brackets that locks the baskets into the folded position could be easier to operate for those with any kind of impairment.
pretty good, could be a little more stable     On: 2009-08-31

The size is pretty good and its convenient that it comes in pairs. I use it at least once a week to go to a store about a mile away. It fits a gallon on milk and the 18pack of eggs, so size is definitely not an issue. It seems strong enough and the clip it has to close it keeps it pretty tight so it wont accidentally open when youre not using it.

The complaint I have is the somewhat primitive system it uses to attach it to your bike. The screws that go on the bottom (to keep it from moving left or right when you turn) are not that strong at all, and are also not very convenient to install. After the second use in the first week, the bottom right screw had already broken; the left one broke about two weeks later. Im still using it like that cause the rest is still in perfect condition.
Too heavy to be desireable     On: 2009-08-21

If you are like me and use your bike all the time to commute to work and get around the city then you probably have a lot of extras added on to your bike that make it more practical. With all of these extras added on to your bike it gets pretty heavy. Throw in these baskets that weigh a ridiculous 2.75 lbs each and things get nutty. The baskets are sturdy and provide ample space for your belongings but the weight penalty they bring is not worth it. Not having had any sort of rack and panniers on my bike before I had no idea what "too heavy" was. Ill save you the trouble of finding out for yourself. Dont buy this product if you intend to ride your bike a lot with them on. I will be looking into cloth bags in the near rfuture.
Great for groceries     On: 2009-08-19

I was looking for baskets that would allow me to run to the grocery store on my bike; these were perfect. Installing was not too hard, but for my rack the screws were a little short so I simply bought longer ones from the hardware store ($0.15 each). Also, I used zip-ties for connecting the vertical bar to the rack. Overall, the product delivered exactly what I hoped.
Appeals to my inner bike geek     On: 2009-08-18

I dont know about you, but to me, the idea of collapsible rear baskets is about the pinnacle of bike perfection. So, I bought this set. I only have a couple of complaints, and these are minor.

First, I ordered this set (Niagara Cycle), which is supposed to come with 2 of them, but it only came with one. Hopefully, theyll respond to my email and fix it, and if they dont, my credit card company sure will. Until then, Im stuck with one basket, and it makes me feel all unbalanced, if only in my head.

Secondly, the brackets it came with arent the best, and they dont fit rear racks with thicker bars very well. But theyre made from a somewhat pliable metal, which lets you bend and work them into a shape that will do the job, even if its a bit unsightly. I managed to bend the lower bracket into a suitable form to tie the basket to the diagonal pannier support brace behind it.

Thirdly, the little clip that holds the basket shut just didnt want to move at all. I had to wiggle it back and forth with pliers, then worked a bit of lubricant into it to get it to move freely enough that I could snap the thing open and shut comfortably.

But these are minor flaws! If youre considering buying these baskets, let me make up your mind for you: just do it! Theres enough space for a good trip to the grocery store, the library, etc.

I didnt have any problem with my feet smacking into the basket while I was riding, but then again, I dont have big feet, and Im not that big of a guy (5 9"). I mounted the baskets with the leading edge as far forward as possible, using a Delta Mega Rack Post Porter Seat Post Rack with Pannier Support. I also insured the bolts on the rack mount were tightened before putting this basket on, since the entire support comes from the seat stem.

Until someone comes out with an light weight version of these, Ill stick with these heavy baskets.
Overall good, but clamps could use some work     On: 2009-08-14

In terms of functionality, these are quite good and serve their purpose. As others have mentioned, you have to mount them a bit further back on the rack or youll wind up kicking them with your peddles.

However, I find the clamps that these ship with rather poor. For starters, they give you silver clamps for a black basket--- which doesnt really look nice. They also arent too secure, and tend to cause rattles. Further, they werent even large even to fit for my bike rack.

My solution was to invest another $6-7 at my local hardware store by buying some Adjustable Metal Hose Clamps. You dont need big ones, about 1/2" diameter ones will do. I got a pack of 10, and used 5 for each side. After it was secured, I then took used some black spray paint to match it to the baskets. The end result is a nice set of secured baskets that blend nicely into the rack.
Not perfect but really good.     On: 2009-06-30

As others have mentioned, you have to mount these off center or you kick them with your feet when you pedal. I agree with the person who mentioned adding plastic zip ties to add more additional securing to the rack so it rattles less. I line mine with Trader Joes reusable bags so nothing is lost through the wire openings when your bike bounces. One last note, it was totally my fault not to read this important little line in the product description: "Includes mounting hardware to mount quick and easily to a rear rack (sold separately)" So make sure you buy that now if you dont have one or it will be a real let-down when the baskets come and you have to go back online and wait for a rack to ship.
Bike Basket     On: 2009-06-24

This basket is a very useful part of my bicycle. I have a difficult time unlocking the hook to open the basket
About 6 Months of Use Review     On: 2009-06-19

I purchased these rear racks to fit onto my Day 6 Dream Comfort bicycle. www dot day6bicycles dot com. The black baskets definitely look nicer.

The basket clips would not fit so I took the bike to the bike shop and let them work their wonders. They ended up using some Zip ties to secure it. On the positive side of this, it is harder to steal the baskets now as the zip ties are hard to reach and cut. And the zip ties hold it tight and prevent rattling.

Each side basket holds a brown paper bag of groceries but I use cloth grocery bags to save trees and because paper bags may get wet or tear and the weave is not small on these baskets.

I havent put anything really heavy into either baskets yet but if and when I do, this review will be updated as to how the baskets handled the load. The fact they fold is so nice and that alone is worth the purchase.

Works well on a Lazer Tandem bicycle for light groceries     On: 2009-06-13

Works well for light grocery trips. While each basket can hold a considerable amount of weight, navigating an already heavy tandem bicycle with fully loaded baskets can be challenging. Remember to allow for additional clearance when passing obstacles with the baskets opened. This is especially true for long bikes where the baskets are so far behind the pilot. Each basket will hold 1 paper sack or 1 "green" bag. The clip that locks/unlocks the basket in the open/closed position can be a little hard to work if you have weak hands. When traveling over a bumpy surface, the baskets tend to rattle. The folding option comes in real handy when parking the bike in the garage.
One Sweet Basket!     On: 2009-06-05

I purchased this to attach to a new bike for my wife. She commutes daily via bike to teach school and she loves this basket. She can fill it with anything she needs to bring home or take to school. The panniers are larger than the non-folding Wald I put on her old 3-spd but secure nicely to the Blackburn rack on her new bike and they fold up deluxe when not needed. Excellent value and a great, useful product. Two thumbs up Wald!!
Bicycle rack     On: 2009-05-16

I am really happy with the Bicycle rack grocery racks. They are easy to install and fold up wnen not in use. They were used often to carry groceries, laundry, and a varity of other uses. My bicycles were attached to my RV and were exposed to the weather. The baskets did oxidize some. Not sure if another type of metal would have been better. I would give it a 9 out of a 10 rating.
Excellent baskets     On: 2009-04-24

I wanted a set of sturdy, reliable rear bike baskets or panniers to attach to my commuter bike. After researching different panniers on the web, I decided to go with baskets. The Wald rear baskets are fantastic. They are large enough to carry two fairly full grocery bags, sturdy enough that they dont rattle or buckle under the weight of the groceries, and when not in use, they easily fold up. The also dont look too bad on the bike when folded. And, because they are attached to the bike, I am not worried about them disappearing when my bike is unattended (most panniers are easy to remove ...)

The only strong negative (hence four stars) is the hardware that comes with the basket. What a disaster. The clips did not fit easily with my Topeak rack (though the bike shop sold both items to me) and after struggling with one basket, I was able to get the clips on. But on basket #2, the manufacturer put the wrong clips in the package. My solution, cable ties. Took less than 5 minutes to secure the baskets with cable ties. And its easy to check the ties from time to time to see if they need to be replaced.

Great idea...very useful.     On: 2009-04-07

These baskets have been fantastic so far. I bought the Wald Adjustable Rear Rack to hold them, but it didnt fit my bike. I will be installing them on another rear rack. They seem quite sturdy and can hold two reusable shopping bags (which are the size of paper grocery bags). Makes grocery shopping much more eco-friendly.
Perfect for the Carless     On: 2009-03-19

Well I just bought these 2 weeks ago and yesterday I went shopping and fell in love, with a bike basket. Not exactly what I pictured falling in love with but hey beggars cant be choosers. Anyway one basket fits exactly one of these:

- 1 Publix reusable bag
- 2 Gallons of Milk
- 1 Paper Bag

I was riding with a reusable bag on one side with light items and 2 gallons of milk on the other side, but it didnt feel imbalanced. Then to my surprise when I hoped I could lug everything up the stairs in one shot I tried lifting the seat like normal and I couldnt. But the baskets made it look easy.

Installing was a pain, I wish the put longer screws to go with it for particularly thick bike rack bars but I managed. Also I got the black baskets and I wish the hardware that came with the baskets were black to, but they are silver and stand out like a sore thumb. Never the less, I love these baskets. I took others advice after five minutes of tinkering with the bikes, I laid my bike down and installed it. I was much easier. I also pushed the baskets as far on the bike rack as they could go.

A lot of people said that adding the extra 5lbs is a bother, but I lug my bike up a flight of stairs everyday and I really didnt notice it.

In summary however, if you dont have a car these baskets make grocery shopping much easier.
Please take good look about if is going to fit ot not in your bike, and the return policy     On: 2009-03-08

I dont know what to say about the product it seems a good quality one. However the company sucks, because in top of being around 35 USD I paid 10.50 in SHIPPING and handling.AND IT DOES NOT WORK IN ANY BIKE RACK
Ok Lets return it, guess what? ok I have to pay the shipping, and in top im sure they will only put the things i opened in the same plastic bags, and charge you 10.50 or more for shipping. In the end the company will never lose any money and i will be obtaining back 14 dollars and watse 20 in shiping. It is stupid, here they will profit always, you will get my open basket sealed in a new plastic bag and they will sell again for 35 bucks, charging you 10 bucks!
Handy carry all     On: 2009-02-10

I just installed these baskets on my bike this weekend. The installation was very easy. I did have to go out and buy some longer screws, as the particular bike rack I have has wide bars on it. Im looking forward to using them this spring. They fold up very flat, and sit far enough back that my feet dont hit them.
Love these baskets     On: 2009-01-27

These are great baskets. They fold up nicely when not in use. I mounted them on my rear rack. I used the included hardware and also added some plastic ties. The cloth bags you now can get at the supermarket work really well with these baskets. I also have flexable coolers that fit in the baskets which are good for cold food storage. We make trips to the supermarket with our tandem bike and all it costs us is flab. Plus its lots of fun.

Cheap and simple alternative to panniers.     On: 2009-01-10

I bought a 2-pack of these baskets and put one on the right side of my bike and one on the right side of my sons bike. (The 2-pack baskets are identical, theres not a left and right.) Its on the right because we both mount our bikes on the left and our foot wont hit it while mounting the bike. I like these baskets better than panniers because they seem to handle heavy, irregular-shaped items (like a jug of milk) better. Also, you dont have to worry as much about someone stealing the baskets because they are bolted onto the bike whereas I always feel like I need to remove panniers and take them with me. Most of all, though, you can just stuff your favorite shoulder bag or backpack into the basket and take it with you when you get to your destination. People with big feet need to realize that baskets and panniers need to be mounted way back on the rack so your heel doesnt hit. One more thing, being able to fold the basket out of the way when its not being used allows you to navigate a messy garage, parked cars, etc. easier.
Great paired with electric bicycle for trips to grocery store!     On: 2008-12-28

After selling our 2nd car to offload debt and become more green, I started to use my electric bicycle to get to the local grocery store. Although I had a basket in front, and an area in back, whenever I had a heavy load of groceries, my bicycle would tip and tilt and almost buck me off. At age 46, I really dont need to be bucked off an unwieldy bicycle!

My husband installed these, it took some doing, but once they were on, they work perfectly! My two bags are now evenly distributed along the REAR wheels, where they wont interfere with my steering of the bicycle. I LOVE them!
does the job     On: 2008-12-24

My wife just gave these to me and I love them. Here are my pros and cons on the baskets.

Pros
1. Sturdy feel, does not rattle at all
2. Mounts easily, hardware worked fine for me
3. Holds standard paper or reusable grocery bag very well, holds a lot of stuff
4. folds out and then back up easily
5. takes up almost no space folded, and does not interfere with mounts for my co-rider or bike trailer, or with hanging my bike up
6. Always there, but not a glaring target for theft.
7. super handy

Cons
1. really should include lock nuts or washers, cheap and easy to replace on your own, though
2. no big deal at all, but must mount towards the back of rack for pedaling clearance
3. heavy
4. another nitpick, but it is a little harder to put my bike bag on my rear rack with these mounted

Pros are big and cons are small. I highly recommend the wald rear baskets. They greatly enhance the utility of my bike.
Very Handy     On: 2008-12-11

Bought a set of 2 of these baskets. Only attached 1 at this time.
Great for a bag of groceries or even a 12 pack.
Attached easily...Added a few zip ties for added strength to carry beer and water.
I also mounted a little further back than the picture shows. Your heel WILL hit the basket when you pedal if you dont.
Great Baskets!     On: 2008-11-29

I used 3/16" Ancor Stainless Steel Cushion Clamps for a rattle free installation on my 1963 Schwinn Tiger which I use to commute to work. Big enough to hold my laptop, lunch bag and other stuff. Much better than a handle bar mounted basket; no weight on the bars for squirrely steering. Plus, they look period correct on that bike.

Very nice!     On: 2008-11-11

They are wonderful. However it would have nice to know that I also needed to buy a brace to attach them. Perhaps you could put it under "customers that bought this also needed this" area. My husband had to use some creative engineering to attach them, but theyre great!
Best Baskets I've Ever Used     On: 2008-11-09

These are really terrific baskets. I have no problem holding 2 bags of groceries in each one. Ive owned 3 sets of these and theres never been any kind of failure. The mounting hardware can be a bit awkward to use and you may have to bend the brackets depending on your rack. You can easily get around that by using nylon cable ties like these ones - Nylon 6/6 Self Locking Cable Ties 8" L, 1 3/4" Max Bundle OD, 50lbs Tensile Str, MIL-S-23190E, Type I, Class I, Natural (Pack of 25) instead of the included hardware. I use 6 to attach each basket. Should you ever decide to remove the baskets its also much easier to snip nylon cables than deal with rusty/dirty nuts & bolts.
Great utility items for bike commutors.     On: 2008-11-01

These baskets were delivered fast. They install with a minimum of fuss. The fold-up feature is great for my folding bike. They are light and sturdy. A great buy.
Great baskets!     On: 2008-10-26

Great baskets. Connecting hardware very flimsey. Use small wire ties to avoid rattelling around. Otherwise, folks always ask me, where did you get those baskets? Amazon and Wald!
Excellent Baskets......     On: 2008-10-24

These work great; they do not rattle, they fold out of the way, carry a lot of stuff and are unobtrusive. I did use some zip ties (in addition to the regular mounting hardware) to secure them to the bike frame, which probably helped with any noise problem. They perfectly hold a paper grocery bag and I have brought home some pretty heavy loads.

So, why not 5 stars? I got the "silver" baskets because my bike is silver. Well, they are really "galvinized" which is not quite what I was expecting. I didnt dislike this enough to send them back for the black ones and Ive gotten used to it, but be aware of that.

I highly recommend these.
Fantastic!     On: 2008-10-10

I use this product almost every day and I still am impressed by its functionality as well as its durability. The only drawback was the position on the cover sheet. "Do not" position the baskets as in the drawing unless you want to shave the skin off of the back of your legs and heels. Make sure you check your "foot travel" before riding after installation. Hence, once that crucial adjustment is made, youre set for life. Im absolutely sold on this wonderful product.
Excellent craftsmanship--Very Sturdy!     On: 2008-10-10

It seems all Wald products are made with a quality, both materials and design, thats rare to find now-a-days. These heavy, rear grocery-bag style baskets will last forever, very well constructed, great coating. My only qualm in recommending these would be the same for all Wald products; they dont seem to be engineered or designed for ease of installation. You really do need to be comfortable with tools and adapting the fittings to your own bicycle design; for example, I had to use a vice and small sledge to re-mold the contour of the bracket affixing the rear platform to the frame portion (where the seat post is inserted). And I needed extra-long, heavy-duty needle-nose pliers, both straight and curved, to hold the brackets which secure the grocery baskets to the rear platforms support rods. If these precautions dont intimidate you, youll be able to do the installation; if you feel uneasy, allow your bicycle shop or handyman friend help you; the product itself is excellent.
Great     On: 2008-10-09

They work great and were easy to install, a great size and fold away when not needed. It was only difficult to tighten the screws once they were in place.
Best thing for my bike yet.     On: 2008-10-09

I installed these yesterday on my bike and used them today and love them. They are perfect for carrying just about anything when commuting and were really easy to install. The advice to set them back a little ways on your carrier is good, otherwise you hit your legs on them. Also the tip to install them loose and then see how they feel when you ride before tightening them is good as well. Overall I think they are perfect for transporting items and are very sturdy.
So Very Convenient     On: 2008-09-23

I absolutely love these baskets. I bought two sets, one for me and one for my partner. We no longer drive so some sort of storage was a must and these work beautifully. Combined theres more than enough room for all our groceries, or anything else weve needed so far. That includes bags of potting soil, live plants, large bags of glass bottles, crushed cans, newspaper bundles, and even a belt sander and an oven rack!

They were very easy to install. Sometimes the folding hinges get stuck a little but I bet a bit of WD40 would fix that if it started to really bother me.

I cant imagine anything else even coming close being able to handle all the things I strap into and onto my bike and then still giving me that nice slimness when I have nothing to carry at all. These are great.

i love these baskets     On: 2008-09-15

I got the stainless steel style that fold up when youre not using them and I love them. Ive carried bags of groceries, bottles of wine, and an entire cake over to a friends house using these baskets. And then they fold away when I dont need them. I was expecting to bungee them down when folded flat to avoid rattling, but theyve been surprisingly quiet so far. I know friends have experienced rattling with theirs, so Ill be ready with bungees just in case, but so far, theyre everything I was hoping for.
Great but heavy     On: 2008-09-15

I love my Wald baskets. Two slight problems: they didnt fit the rack i have on the back of my bike, so I had to use some different hardware and some hose clamps, not a big deal tho. second, they make my bike wayyyy heavier (not like my bike is carbon fiber but still). other than that I love them!
Delightfully functional!     On: 2008-09-14

I love these storage baskets. They collapse down to get out of the way when I dont need them, but they hold a lot of stuff (a 12-pack in one, a picnic dinner in the other) when I need them to. Other reviews mention installing them two inches back from centered on the bike rack. I did that, and the clearance for my heels is perfect.

We added a co-pilot so our four-year-old can ride with us, and with the addition of these baskets, my bike is becoming the minivan of cycling. I love it!

real attention getters     On: 2008-09-04

I bought these baskets in black about a year ago. They are awsome! I carry groceries, pet food, books, and even potted plants. They fold up out of the way when not in use. Many people have stopped me and asked where to buy these. I found them on Amazon. I tell people to go to Amazon to purchase them. The local bike store doesnt carry them yet.
Ive only had a problem with the nuts coming off one time, when I dropped my bicycle on the street. That was painful! The baskets lost one screw and I lost a great deal of skin on my knee and elbow. The bike shope put nylocks on the basket after that.

These baskets will hold alot of weight. I have carried 2 eight pound bags of cat food in them.

Get these baskets and enjoy doing your errands.
Great Grocery Getters     On: 2008-08-31

Got these. Tried to install while bike upright due to Lousy instructions. Found out easier to install with Bike laid on its side. Then bottom center screw working up to top corners(Pre-Fit),on my Topeak Explorer Disc Rack. Rack too Slippery to work on in Upright position. Extra 5 Lbs.
Excellent Product     On: 2008-08-29

I received this product in just a few days after ordering. It is of excellent quality and serves my purpose very well. The baskets fold up against the bike when not in use and therefore do not interfere with anything.
One other buyer had stated that they rattle but, I placed a taped "cushion" between the baskets and the bike and that eliminated that problem.
With industrial Velcro, two short aluminum angles, and a little ingenuity
I have them mounted where they can be easily detached.
good value, very convenient     On: 2008-08-28

the baskets work very well, fold away thin enough i can ignore them when not in use, and easily take a large paper grocery bag each when folded out. they turned my commuter bike into a grocery getter; no more balancing stuff in my hands or on the handlebars when riding!

some reviews say the standard, included hardware is difficult to install onto cargo racks made from "large" tubes. this is true. for reference, a Topeak Explorer rack --- with tubes about 10mm across, a bit less than three-eighths of an inch --- counts as "large". it can still be done with some bending, but it might have been easier to get some hose clamps or something from the hardware store.

installation in general is a fiddly affair calling for thin, nimble fingers. tools with long handles and magnetic tips would also help. not impossible for a regular person to do, but you may be in for about half an hour of cussing at it --- thats what it took me. its on solidly now, though, and no rattling so far.

also recommended: Pyramid Bicycle Bungie Cargo Net, Black --- makes sure nothing will bounce out the top of the baskets, even on a bumpy road. this could be just a little larger, it doesnt quite cover the whole top of both baskets at once, but it does the job well enough.
Folding Wald 582 baskets     On: 2008-08-24

Just what I was wanted.     On: 2008-08-17

I am very happy with my bicycle racks. They are just what I wanted. The assembly was quick and easy, the racks fold up nicely when not in use, and they hold a lot of things! I like taking packages to the post office by bike. When the racks are opened, the top surface is quite large. With a bungee cord, I can even strap large boxes over the whole rack system.

These are fantastic.     On: 2008-08-14

I purchased these, so I could run more errands using my bike. They attached easily, and I really like the fact that they are securely fixed to my bike rack and that they fold up. I can haul quite a few groceries with them. A gallon of milk and two 2-liter bottles of soda? No problem. The now-popular reusable grocery bags fit as well. My lunch cooler even fits. My only suggestion is to make sure you place them far back enough, so your heels dont catch. Also, they do add some weight, making lifting my bike in and out of my truck a little more of a chore. However, Ive had my bike for 16 years, and with these racks, Im riding more than ever.
Perfect Racks.     On: 2008-08-13

Nice baskets for my grocery bike. They installed easily and are heavy duty. They do not rattle on my bike rack and carry lots of cargo. Some people, however may find heel clearance a problem with some types of bikes. I had no heel problem on my old Trek 930 mountain bike though.

Bicycle Dual, rear folding wire carrier.     On: 2008-08-13

Dual carrier.
I received the carrier in a matter of a few days. The carrier was
packed in a secure box. The carrier itself is chrome plated and is of a sturdy nature. I was pleased with how it folds compactly and will suit my needs just fine. Mounting hardware was included and will work just fine. I will substitute the nuts with locking nuts from my local Home Depot as that would be more secure so nobody steals it. A five star product from a five star company.
Thank you....

Strong and durable.     On: 2008-08-12

I got these racks so I could do errands while on my `exercising bike ride each day. They attach with three pieces of steel hardware each. I did find that its easier to pre-fit the basket, pre-form the straps and have all screws and nuts easily at hand. Grab two pliers, a regular and a needle nose in addition to the screwdriver and small open end wrench. The straps are somewhat universal in nature so you have to take a bit of time to get them right. Also make sure you mount them far enough back so your heel doesnt hit the basket while pumping. Once attached they are strong and flexible. Ive stuffed these things full and the steel construction bounces right back. When you want them out of the way they EASILY fold into themselves and a strong but simple hook-latch holds them closed. They pay for themselves very rapidly with savings on gas if you want to reduce your weekly car mileage.
These are the baskets you're looking for.     On: 2008-08-04

These sturdy little baskets are great. They fold and lock out of the way, they dont add noticable weight when empty, and Ive just carried 30.0 lbs of groceries home in a pair of them. (Didnt mean to, but there was a sale on Lean Cuisines.) My bike handled very well; the most awkward part was mounting the bike and getting it moving.

Carrying space, not weight, is the effective limitation. Each basket holds one standard paper grocery bag with the bag opened and upright, but there is no room for the bulging that happens when bags are packed. So dont leave the store with 2 bags so full that goods will fall out the top when the sides are forced upright. I use cloth grocery bags with handles I can tie across the top to keep my groceries a bit more secure.

I attached these baskets to the Wald rear bike rack. I highly recommend the baskets, but I suggest you buy the Wald rack only if you have a lifetimes experience jerry-rigging small projects, along with a great deal of patience and a large collection of hardware flotsam. The rack comes without either the instructions or the hardware youll need to attach it to your bike. The baskets, on the other hand, come with adequate instructions and all required hardware. If you can provide the screw drivers and wrenches, they should attach to any rear rack that has bars along the sides, as most racks do. Do attach them toward the rear of the rack so your heels dont whack them as you pedal.

To summarize, buy these baskets. Youll love them. But consider buying a rack from someone other than Wald. Youve been warned.
Great product     On: 2008-08-03

Easy to install, need retightening, and then they dont move or make any noise at all. Big enough for any grocery bags, and then fold up out of they way. LOVE THEM!!!!
Best Ever!     On: 2008-08-01

Ok this design is absolutely flawless, and its the best idea Ive ever seen for bicycle grocery baskets. Its so simple, the baskets fold up to almost nothing when not being used (you wont even know theyre there), and when open they are very sturdy. The mounting hardware included works excellent, and I think would probably work with nearly every rear rack out there. Mounting is super easy and simple as well.

You cant go wrong here. If youre going to be biking and you need to carry things for ANY reason, stop hesitating, and BUY THESE! Totally worth it. Very handy to have some bungees to tie things down with, though, as hitting bumps or curbs can make your things go flying!

See all of my uploaded "customer images" for more details.

its nice, but heavy     On: 2008-07-26

I bought it for shopping to save gas. The fact that it folds out of the way is really nice. However, I wish it was lighter. It weighs more then a the plastic milk crate I was using before.
bike baskets     On: 2008-07-25

these baskets are just what I was looking for. I have used them a lot and so far they are great. The clasp to open them and close them is a bit stiff, but that is good, I think.
Fits grocery bags perfectly     On: 2008-07-24

Amazons price was the cheapest I could find. These fit easily onto a bike rack with 3 metal straps and bolts. My rack was very thick so I had to buy longer bolts but normal bike racks would have no problem.

They weigh 5 pounds so consider that if you lift your bike much. Seems like a small weight but its noticeable.

Grocery bags fit nicely. These open and close with a built in latch thats very secure. I commute with my bike so these make a stop at the grocery store possible.
Great Product     On: 2008-07-14

I couldnt be happier with these baskets. Ive been riding my bike to work and really needed something like these - so when I saw them - I knew they were exactly what I needed. My 15-year-old son installed them for me - took him about 10 minutes. They are solid and secure. Gerat, great product. Highly recommended.
Good not perfect.     On: 2008-07-09

It took about 10 minutes to install on the bike, but about 1 hour of tinkering to get it perfect so I wouldnt hit my feet on the baskets. The hardware isnt locking hardware so I will have to get a new set. The hinges are garbage. They either dont open or dont close. A few pieces of nylon could have been used to make it not so noisy. Zip ties can only do so much on this design. If there were another set of baskets like this I would recommend those, but there is not.
BUY THIS BASKET!     On: 2008-07-06

I purchased 2 of these baskets but have so far only attached one to my bike. I was glad another reviewer mentioned not centering the basket on your rack to avoid having your heels hit the basket. This makes it harder to attach the bracket designed to help stabalize the lower part of the basket but dont let that little problem scare you. This basket is perfect to use with the popular reusable grocery bags. I tie the handles together to help secure my groceries on the ride home. I knew Id enjoy saving gas with my grocery baskets but I had no idea how much fun it would be. Ive been amazed by how much food Ive carried with just one basket. I keep expecting to have problems with balance and the strain of lugging 40lbs of food, but, so far my trips have been pure JOY!
Wald 582 Grocery Baskets     On: 2008-07-04

If you are using these baskets for groceries they work fine. I have a handle bar bag for 1 gallon size milk container, my bananas and tomatoes. The other stuff, beer, wine, coffee, vegetables, other can goods and meat fit nicely in the rear baskets. Weight is not a problem, they are strong. No problem with foot clearance, just make sure you mount them far enough back. I wear a size 43 bike shoe and have more than an inch clearance. Note: The baskets are mounted on my touring bike. They do not rattle empty or full. The price is right.

Mount Them Far Back     On: 2008-06-26

I bought these from a local St. Louis bike shop for a lot more money, but that included installation...and glad of it. I told the installer my concerns over the heel of my shoes banging into these when extended out. He didnt listen & had to re-adjust them back about two inches. Thats the only negative. Dont install them "centered" but back about 2 inches on your rack. They dont weigh a heck-of-a-lot. When extended out, they hold a lot and are sturdy. Naturally, they are not rain proof. So check the weather before you pedal off to the store. I would suggest some bungee cords to stretch across the top once your purchase is in the baskets.

Work well with a Topeak Explorer Rack     On: 2008-06-16

I have a pair of Wald 582 baskets on my Topeak Explorer Rack. Installation was a little awkward, but it did work and Im pleased with the overall result.

As others have observed, the Wald mounting clamps are a little too narrow for modern racks, including the Topeak. However, they are made of soft aluminum and I found it reasonably easy to gently bend each clamp so that I could get the clamp over the rack; then bend it back to get the bolt through and threaded; then as I tightened the bolt, the clamp bent further into place until I had a tight fit. Id rather the clamps had been properly sized, but the end result works.

In order to get a good location, I paused partway through the tightening and did some test cycling and adjustments to make sure the baskets didnt catch my heels. (For me this was with the front of the baskets about 2.5 inches behind the front of the rack.)

Like others, I found Walds side U-clamps inadequate and used electric cable ties to secure the sides. I hear a little rattling when the baskets are opened out, but none when they are closed up.

Installation was a little more awkward than necessary, but it worked in the end and Im pretty pleased with the result. The baskets clip closed securely and expand out easily. They seem sturdy and I have no qualms about loading up heavy grocery bags. Its a big improvement over balancing bags on my handlebars!

Wald 582 bicycle folding grocery baskets     On: 2008-06-15

Low cost alternative to fabric panniers, fold flat when not in use. Each one easily accomodates a fully loaded grocery bag. I mounted them as far back as possible on my bikes rear cargo carrier to allow my feet more space when peddling. The only negative is that the mounting clamps seem a little flimsy-I reinforced them with slip ties of the same color. This product has helped me reduce the use of my automobile.
I would recommend these baskets.     On: 2008-06-11

These baskets are easy to use. They fold up easily when not in use. I had to buy some longer screws to install it because the ones that came with the baskets were too short for my rack. I had to adjust the clips that hold it onto the rack also.

Quality, function, price     On: 2008-06-09

I bought a bicycle Rear Rack grocery basket for my wifes bike and for my bike. Each exceeded my expectations! I attached them to the paniers on the back of each bike. They open easily when needed and hold their shape when open. They collapse easily out of the way when not in use. They are heavy duty, dont rust and were a great price. Would recommend to anyone!
Baskets are Great for the Utilitarian Bicycle     On: 2008-06-09

I have spent the last 2 summers struggling with the decision of whether to purchase these baskets or not. I did not particularly want to add significant weight or bulk to my bike and yet I found myself frequently in a situation where I needed to haul things around and wished I had a "trunk" to put them in. After finally committing to the purchase, I must say I am thrilled about my decision.

As a frequent commuter by bike to work downtown, I often come home with more than I take in. Now, rather than fooling with bungie cords or hanging cumbersome plastic bags off of my handlebars, I simply unlatch the baskets and neatly place my shopping bags in them. So far I have conveniently and safely hauled such things as produce and potted plants from the farmers market as well as bottles of wine and library books. The convenience is well worth the added weight. I love my baskets!

I think this is a wise purchase for anyone who uses their bike (rather than a gas guzzler) as a means to get around and complete common errands. One who rides merely for the sport of it, may find the extra weight too burdensome. The baskets are utilitarian in nature. Go without if you are looking for the fast and sleek ride.

The only reason I did not give a five star rating to this product has to do with the hardware that is included with the product. In order to attach the baskets to my bike rack, I had to purchase longer bolts to properly secure the braces, so keep in mind that, when it comes to hardware, one size does not fit all bike racks. After making this modification, however, I am glad to report that I am not experiencing the "rattle" that a few other customers have detailed in their reviews.

On a final note, I did benefit from reading the other reviews prior to receiving the baskets and I highly recommend others who are considering this purchase do the same. Having done so alerted me to the fact that I might need to make some hardware modifications. It also gave me insight into properly mounting the baskets; particularly the hint to place the baskets approximately 2 inches behind the rack to allow room for heel/pedal clearance. Had I not read this, I am sure I would have had to re-mount the baskets as the written instructions that come with the product does not make a note of this. So, my sincere thanks to all who posted reviews before me.

Really nice baskets     On: 2008-05-27

I know that Wald has been around awhile and my main concern was that this would be low quality work. Boy was I surprised. The baskets remind me of the folding pet kennels. They collapse to about 1" and stay put. I used one or two tie wraps and have had no rattles. I live on a rough rock road and havent shaken them off yet. (I did use Locktite on the bolts, however.)

Overall, the product and price are great. I had no delivery issues to complain of and the baskets installed fairly easily. I say fairly because I have a road bike, Blackburn rack, fenders and the space was limited. It took less than ten minutes to install both baskets.

Im happy.

Great product, great service from Niagara     On: 2007-10-28

These are just what I needed. Folds out of the way when not in use and always there in a pinch. They rattle a bit, but that is to be expected in a fold-able design such as this. I have these mounted on a Blackburn Mtn rack, so the mounting hardware would NOT fit the round tubing. I tried plastic zip ties as others have suggested, but the ones I had on hand were not heavy enough to hold much weight. I am now using stainless steel hose clamps with good results.

Niagara Cycle Works was great. My Blackburn rack was on the same Amazon order from Nashbar and i had to wait almost a full week after the baskets had arrived before finally receiving the rack.

A Bit of a kluge, but servicable     On: 2007-10-22

These baskets are heavy and not too well designed. You take a risk if you put loose items in them as the sides flex out and can leave wide gaps for things to fall out. Holds a standard full size paper grocery bag nicely.

You have to mount them as far back on your cargo rack as possible or you risk kicking them as you pedal. The minimal instructions fail to mention this. The baskets are certainly durable and should last the life of the bike. Serviceable but not elegant. I would recommend the black ones. The silver ones are pretty garish and ugly looking. No problems with Niagra Cycle.
baskets are alright but not optimum     On: 2007-10-10

product took more than a week to arrive and does not fit on my rack as other people mentioned. i was able to force it on with the metal pieces it included, however it is difficult to lack the basket when i try to fold and store it. im a college student and two baskets ended up being too much added weight on my bike to haul all over campus so i am only using one now. the material is a bit on the heavy side. otherwise frame is study and works well.

The baskets came in a timely manner and were as described - although it was not so clear that a rear bike rack was also required to mount them. So a week after the baskets were received, I ordered a rear rack and a mounting hardware kit for the rear rack. Unfortunately, rather than recieving those two ordered items, a front basket was received. This turned out to be a major inconvenience, as I actually ordered these items for my disabled brother-in-law, and had them shipped directly to him. Needless to say, it just seems not at all worth the effort, or my time, to reorder from this vendor on Amazons website. Online shopping should be convenient - this experience is in the deficit column in that respect. Ill just go to a local bike shop where I can actually put my hands on the items I want to trade my money for.

Mounting hardware needs to be reconfigured.     On: 2007-09-04

The R-shaped mounting hardware that connects the basket to the bicycle rack needs to be reshaped to accomodate rear bike racks that have a larger diameter metal. The supplied bolts are a tad short and should be about 1/8 inch or 3mm longer.

Its easier to use some rubber tubing (cut lengthwise, inserted unto the leg of the rear bike rack to reduce noise from vibrations)) and plastic tie to mount the rest of the basket to the leg of the rear bike rack than use the supplied U-shaped bracket.

This is just what I wanted, but buyers should follow the advice about mounting that other reviewers have given. I was surprised that the rack added so much weight to my bike that I had a bit of trouble lifting my bike onto the my cars bike rack (I am a fairly fit 51 year-old woman). I use the racks to carry my roller blades; I think a big front rack might have worked as well as these. Still theyre great.

I am outfitting a bicycle to become my basic errand vehicle for my return to city living, and chose these as my carriers for a few reasons:

*They fold! When shut down, they collapse to about an inch thickness-- very convenient!
*Unglamorous metal framing lacks the sexy steal-appeal of voluptuous panniers
*They fit a purse, grocery bag, or school bag-- all things Ill be carrying.
*They come in a set of two, and are reasonably priced!

Once I had my rear rack on, these attached very easily with basic household tools. I had no problem installing them, but someone with very large hands may have problems. I have had no problem with rattling, and have not used any additional hardware to secure them. A tip-- I found it useful to pinch down the U-clips before screwing them on, to get rid of the gap.

They do add a bit of weight to the bike...around five pounds. My bike is no aluminum frame wondermachine, so its not a huge difference to me, but it could be an issue for someone who wants something very easy to lift and carry.
good idea     On: 2007-08-07

These are very workable baskets.
I like the price and I had no problem getting them to work for me. I used ties instead of the hardward as the hardware did not fit my bike rack.

Suggestions for future - a lighter material - they are a little heavy for my taste but then I have a heavy iron made bike so I am trying to lighten the load.

This item works fine tho and I am glad I got them. I am a teacher and have to carry stuff around - these take care of the problem.
Versatile bike basket     On: 2007-07-29

A great accessory for those who use their bikes to run errands around the neighborhood. Will hold two full size grocery bags or one bag & 1/2 dozen bottles of wine. Folds flat when not in use.
Wald Rear Bicycle Rack Baskets     On: 2007-07-21

Great baskets that fold up totally out of the way. When theyre closed, you dont even really notice them. Had to add longer screws though, as the ones they supply were not long enough to secure it to my rear rack. Not a problem though. Great racks for the money.
Great basket     On: 2007-07-18

These baskets are great. I only have one attached to my bike with zip ties. I use the bike for commuting daily and for occasional shopping. You do have to replace the zip ties occasionally, but you can carry quite a heavy load in the basket and it is still stable.

Definitely worth the money and you dont have to worry about them being stolen like with regular panniers.
Excellent carriers

These baskets are great! They fit securely onto almost any rear rack on your bicycle, and each one can hold a traditional paper grocery bag. A great excuse to get some excericise while grocery shopping.

They fold up properly when not in use. The only grouse I have is that they should supply some type of release mechanism so they can be removed more easily - or without tools (but on second thought, someone can pinch them more easily!).
Cool Baskets     On: 2007-06-13

These baskets were the best investment I have made yet. They are so convenient for going to my local farmers market. The fold out of they way and look very stylish on my bike. I must for anyone who uses their bike for more than riding trails.

Easy install, easy use!     On: 2007-06-09

I love these baskets. Theyre fairly easy to install (you may have some minor problems, depending on the type of rack to which youre attaching them or if you dont have tiny fingers), and once theyre on, theyre super easy to open and collapse. I use them as a commuting teacher and can get plenty of my work material in the baskets. I really appreciate the metal clip that holds the baskets together close to the rack when youre not using them - its a clip that you can open with one hand, and maybe even close with one hand if youre strong enough.

They do rattle a bit, but thats the result of them being a collapsible metal basket. Instead of using the U-brackets included with the baskets, I used plastic zip ties (as suggested by other users) to fix the bottom of the baskets to my pannier frame - a much simpler solution than trying to get the U-bracket to fit over the odd angle of my particular frame. Again, as suggested by others, I would make sure you have bungee cords or nets available to hold things in that risk bouncing out during rides over uneven pavement or brick/cobblestone surfaces.

Baskets are strong and functional. Have to make adjustments if your rack is not metal, otherwise they are great.
Best baskets     On: 2007-05-11

Couldnt ask for anything more from these baskets - they work great. Tried another basket that was always open and it was so cumbersome. The only downside to them maybe is that it wont protect your items from the rain - those hot/cold grocery bags fit into them if you are stuck in this predicament.

Besides the other things already mentioned, sometimes one has to re-distribute groceries back into the bag to make everything fit nicely.

Ive also found that holding the baskets in place with masking tape first makes it a easier to screw on the attachment hardware. If the supplied hardware doesnt fit a wide tube, plumbing insulation fasteners work pretty well.

Works well for me.     On: 2007-03-11

I use the baskets for my grocery shopping, and they have been working very well for me. They were easy to assemble, and feel sturdy--even with bags of flour and canned goods I have not felt like I was overloading them on weight. I love that the baskets fold up, it makes it so much more convenient for storage.

We use the baskets on our folding bikes. The bikes have 16" wheels and they fit very well. I would recommend this item.

Highly recommended.     On: 2007-01-25

These baskets are well worth the money, especially because they were alot cheaper than others i had priced. They mounted easily and work seamlessly. I thought i would have to secure them with zip ties, but they are stable enough without.
Great buy!     On: 2007-01-16

Delivered promptly and in good condition. Lightweight, more aerodynamic than panniers. Hold several bags of groceries. Very satisfied.
Good But Not Quite Great     On: 2007-01-04

These baskets are the biggest ones I could find, they are convenient (folding) and built well enough for moderate-weight items, but if you put loose items in them you may have them bounce out over rough pavement. Also with actual groceries sometimes things are not so heavy, but bulky--and the baskets would be improved by making them four to six inches deeper.

great for the city     On: 2006-09-21

These baskets are great for running errands in the city! I commute by bicycle and I leave these on the bike all the time. I dont notice the weight, they dont get in the way, and most importantly, they dont scream "steal me" the way a set of panniers would. Folded open, they hold a LOT of stuff. As far as I can tell, theyre solid and theyll hold more weight than I ever want to carry. I used zip ties in addition to the mounting hardware, and Ive had no rattling issues.

Two cautions:
* The included mounting hardware uses regular nuts instead of nylocs or lock washers. Check them often or get some nylocs at the hardware store, because this is not a vibration friendly setup.
* Be sure to mount these far enough back that your heels dont hit them! On my bike, that means that they have to be about two inches farther back than they would be if I centered them on the rack.

The best option for groceries.     On: 2006-05-29

These baskets are great. I have tried more expensive and lighter weight grocery panniers, but those dont hold as much weight or volume, and they are a pain because you have to take them into the store with you to avoid having them stolen off the bike. I use zip ties to attach the Wald baskets to my bike, because with the included hardware they tend to rattle. I carry a lot of groceries with these, including heavy things like beer, potatoes, and flour. I find they work best with paper grocery bags, but they also work quite well with reusable cloth grocery bags.

They do weigh quite a bit, though. 5.5 pounds may not sound like much but if you have to carry the bike up any stairs you might want to think about whether youll be able to manage the weight. I use a steel Wald rack for mounting these, and that also adds a bit to the weight.
Fantastic!     On: 2006-02-25

I use these baskets ALL the time. Theyre amazing. I recommend, though, getting a few small bungee cords to help secure things so they dont jump out over the top of your baskets, but other than that, theyre quite sturdy. They are a little bit difficult to secure to the back rack, but once done youll wonder what you had ever done without them.

grocery baskets     On: 2005-10-05

Have had these for around a year. Can load up about $70 worth of groceries (the cheap heavy food) with the optional wald front basket. The out side lower frame of basket is held up with a steel loop tab. With such a heavy load I put two small master locks on both inside and outside bottom frame edge bars for fail safe support. An alumium alloy rack wont do well with that weight, am going to try out the Wald steel rack soon with hardened bolts to frame. I use the Wald parts on a 1960s crusier, it is similar to a pickup truck.

These are great. I use them all the time.
You can use just one to carry things. It will not make the bicycle unbalanced.
But you must have a rear rack to attach the baskets.
