Jet Lites Phantom I 20W Helmet Mount     On: 2006-05-27

The lite was impressive... but not perfect.

The Bad...but not too...

-- "So called" gauge tracks current flow and not remaining energy. This means shelf life is not taken into account. The counter just shows how much energy has moved into or out of the battery. A full recharge will correct the inaccuracy. I dont know why they just dont monitor output voltage.

-- The battery pack can also "reverse polarity" if drained completely. This can happen to Urban riders who have street lights on long hauls. The first time I used it this happened to me. The "White" to "Yellow" to "Dead" time was fast enough that I didnt notice due to a couple of miles under street lights. I let the pack rest and was lucky enough that it did recharge correctly. Pack shape is also a rectangle with a mid-mount cable.
This makes mounting or stowing more difficult but still possible.

-- The switch is on the top of the light and takes a bit of pressure to activate. Could be tough if you have full gloves on.
The switch does on-off and cycle power settings very well.

The Good...(really good)
Pretty much EVERYTHING else.

Lite is BRITE! Good pattern and diffusion. Cars give more respect to riders per watt output and this one delivers.
Beam pattern 25 feet wide and 60 feet long(usable); at speed
on a technical it is about half of that. You can outride the beam at 20-25 mph.

Helment mounting is great, downhills and jumps did not move the beam angle at all. Easy to adjust the beam with one hand while moving (for going from street to off-road).

Battery pack has long burn times even on 20W. (2 hours 20 minutes on 20W). Recharge in 5 hours or less. Pack doesnt heat up as much as others I have used. It is heavy but what do you expect with NiMH. This would be GREAT with LI-ION.

I ride a GT timberline. Setup for off road, I would get the Jet lite again....unless I could afford the HID
