Avoid this bike!     On: 2008-05-17

Box arrived in reasonable condition, bike did not. Scratched in several areas, while other parts looked used. Missing endcaps for tires, but that is a minor annoyance. Cool decals and logos looked like stickers. Very cheap looking. I swallowed my disappointment and attempted to assemble the few remaining parts.

To get the front tire on, you need to disassemble the front brake. Unless you know a bike mechanic you can forget about getting this brake reassembled correctly. And dont forget you will need every possible size Allen wrench ever made to work on this bike. The rear brake did not need to be assembled but was unusable. As soon as the hand grip was depressed the brake wire came right off the hand grip.

I am not an idiot and am pretty handy with my tools. So no problems. Ok, one problem: The instructions were unusable. Nobody who is untrained in bike mechanics is going to put this together, I will bet my house on it. Reviews stating otherwise are outright false. 4 hours later it all went back into the box. To compile a complete list of the problems with this bike would waste even more of my time, and I want to put this entire mess behind me.

Do not be fooled by the Mongoose name, there is nothing here but cheap, cheap parts, sloppy welds, and ill-fitting and ill-designed materials.

Sadly I cannot review how this bike performs because it never left my garage. Sadly, I also had to give this pig one star.
Good bike     On: 2008-04-16

Its a beautiful bike and great quality. I just got mine today and I love it. I just have to get used to riding it, its been 20 years since Ive ridden a bike but Im sure Ill get used to it with this one.

Amazon has a good collection of bikes to choose from. The Mongoose MGX Atlas Womens Mountain Bike is just awesome. Amazon has to do something about UPS shipment. They delivered the bike with the box opened at the top and bottom. If I had been present during delivery, I would have probably refused to accept the package. But thank goodness all the parts were intact with no damage.
Good bike for a price     On: 2008-03-17

Shipping was fast and item came in good condition with everything pretty much assempled. The only thing you need to do before start riding - tune up deraileur and brakes. It is pretty simple for doityourself or you can go to a bike shop and tune it there. After that it is working OK. Also you may consider to buy new saddle since one that comes with the bike is not very comfortable.
nice product     On: 2008-01-07

Product came quickly packed in original box only. Assembly was fairly easy with a wrench, but you did need an allen wrench for the handle bars. This is not a common household tool.
Great all-around bike, some parts missing.     On: 2008-01-07

This bike was a gift. On Christmas, we assembled the bike. The two mounting anchoring bolts for the brakes were missing. I called Pacific Cycle and they shipped the brake parts promptly. If someone didnt know any better, they could have sustained injury if tring to ride this bike. They need to inspect before shipping!
I really like this bike     On: 2007-08-29

I ordered two of these bikes, one for myself and one for my daughter, who is 18. I was intimidated by the instructions (they were very detailed for each part of the bike) but it turned out to be just putting on a wheel, a seat, and setting the handlebars. Totally simple, I did it, and Im a mom! The bikes have been easy to ride, and the gears shift pretty smoothly. We dont ride bikes miles and miles, but I think this one would be ok if we did - its pretty comfortable. The only bad thing was that UPS once again totalled the boxes - they were smashed down and open, and one of the bikes had a part missing (the screw to attach the handlebars.) I called Amazon and the manufacturer, we had the part (at no expense of course) in just a few days. Irritating, but a UPS issue, not Amazon. I love Amazon, not so much UPS.
Great bike, great price     On: 2007-01-22

This bike does everything it should. Everything meshes and flows smoothly and it put a huge smile on my fiances face when she got it for Christmas. Granted where we are there arent many areas to put it to the test, but it seems well built, and should last for many years. The price was absolutely incredible, though I know its not the top of the line Mongoose, but having that name, even if its the offshoot, makes it better. The shifting is the only issue, you may not want to have the grip in the exact spot it should be in. But the clicks in between the 1 2 and 3 function for that gear if the derailer is set just a little off. Thats just the nature of "grip twist" gears. My $2000 bike does the same thing. Sure, you can adjust it, but theres no harm in leaving it, and adjusting it may throw it more out of whack if you dont know what youre doing. Its a bike, it pedals, it shifts, and it stops. Thats what they were made to do. So it works.

Problems with delivery and assembly of MGX     On: 2006-07-28

We received the Mongoose MGX today and have had significant problems. Its too early to review the actual bike performance but....the bike was delivered with the box open and missing parts. The front strut had significant scratches and the tools that were supposed to be included werent. Whats more, the assembly directions werent easy to understand and the front break still isnt working as well as Id like after much tuning (maybe 2 hours of assembly time so far). The front tire is bent a little so that one section of the tire will rub on the brake.

I have to conclude that purchases from Amazon should not include anything that needs significant assembly and am very close to returning the bike.

love this bike     On: 2006-07-15

i was looking to find a nice simple bike, and also like the look of it too. i decided on this one and loved it. the bike parts was mostly assemble had to put few things together. simple to do with no assembling bike background. i had a lot of complements on this bike. great for bike rides with the family.
Excellent value bike     On: 2006-06-08

I bought this bike two weeks ago for my wife. The bike arrived well packed with no problems. The assembly took about 10 minutes. I have no bicycle assembly or tune up experience whatsoever. The bike rode fine and the only complaint that I have so far is that the shifters are a bit imprecise. Nothing terrible, but not as nice on my much more expensive Bianchi bike. I dont know if a tune would help - did not try, as the bike is used for very occasional ride here and there as is fine as is.

I think it is an excellent bike for the money.
