More Information

Pretty good rack.
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-10

I didnt find any of the fabrication problems seen with other reviewers. The rack seems well built and sturdy, and I dont see any real issues with it. My only complaints would be the assembly instructions, which are pretty vague and require an inordinate amount of interpretation, and the fact that the hardware dimensions with the product dont really facilitate setting it up as theyve illustrated. Specifically, the bikes shown in the photos must be VERY small, in order to be both mounted on the bottom length of the rack. Using the mounting holes on the top section (required if youve got two adult bikes) require staggering the brackets, as opposed to setting them on a straight horizontal line. Its just a bit confusing, and given the cost of the things Im mounting on it, I dont want to have any confusion.
Poor Pre-Manufacturing

The wood is very nice - but the design/ manufacturing is very poor.

My experience trying to assemble this rack was frustrating. The holes arent properly pre-drilled. The hole at the top didnt match up with the cap-plate hole, which A) made it very difficult to screw together (the first screw stripped) and B) resulted in a gap and wobbly finally assembly. I experienced the same issue with shallow pre-drilled holes in the bottom, and the bolts not going in all the way.

I never got to the point of figuring out the cryptic finally assembly instructions. Based on the wobbly central column, I decided to disassemble mine and send it back.

Good potential - Bad Execution
by: bendlera    On: 2007-01-03

When I was assembling this product I discovered that not only were the instructions vague, and that the product pictured did not appropriately match the product given, but that the product itself was sloppily manufactured. The predrilled holes were only half the depths that the instructions required them to be in order to properly assemble and adjust the final height. My thought is... How hard is it to drill a hole to a proper depth?

Luckily I own the tools necessary to fix their mistakes, but how much money are they really saving by inconveniencing their customers?

I wish I could give this product a higher rating, but hopefully there are better alternatives.
