![]() On Guard Locking Skewers By: OnGuard Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 1 More Information Locking Skewers If you ride your bike someplace and anticipate leaving it "chained up" to a parking meter or fence-type-thing, you had better realize that if you are using quick-release skewers, your seat and wheels are considered fair play to thieves and meanies. I have found that locking skewers, such as these from On Guard, help me to relax a little bit more than a trad bolt-style skewer, provided that I remember to carry the special key required to open them. Any commuter worth his salt installs a set as soon as they become financially achievable. Thanks for listening, now go ride! Excellent lock With higher gas and parking prices I decided to keep my truck at home and bike the 3 miles to the train station as often as I can. I have a decent bike for commuting with quick release wheels and seat post. Every time that I got to the station I would have to disassemble it all to lock it up and then reassemble it to head home. It took a lot longer than I would have liked and was especially frustrating in colder conditions or when I was running behind. So I bought this set of locking skewers and they are excellent. They are strong and sturdy and have a very slim profile. You cant get a wrench on them to try and pry them off. Like any lock I am certain they can be defeated, but bicycle theft is more of a crime of opportunity and these serve as an effective deterrent. The key is coded to the specific skewers you buy and you can register your key at the companys web site www.pinheadcomponents.com Once you register you can order a replacement key or additional locks keyed to your specific key. Overall a great product and I highly recommend it for anyone who commutes regularly on their bike. $50 is a little expensive, but its high quality and well worth the convenience and peace of mind.
