If you have a 9-speed drivetrain, and a flat-bar or other type of handlebar that necessitates using mountain bike type shifters, and you have a road-type crankset with around 52 teeth on the large chainring, this is the front derailleur you need. This configuration is typically found on flat bar road bikes and recumbent bikes. The spring in this derailleur isnt as strong as the spring in other road bike front derailleurs, so the shifting isnt as decisive. On the other hand, if you set this derailleur up properly, you get good, essentialy trouble free performance - just what one would expect from Shimanos mid-range products.
