![]() Planet Bike Hardcore Recumbant Bicycle Fender with Stainless Steel Hardware and Mud Flap (Front, Black, 20-Inch Tires/50mm Wide) By: Planet Bike Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 4 More Information rear fender keeps coming loose I purchased a set of these and had them installed by my local recumbent specialist. Any time I would go over a bump one of the vertical fender stays popped out of the socket. The solution was to use glue to keep it in. I think it has to do with my rear suspension. I recommend fenders with more permanent stays even if they need to be cut. Nice Fender This is a pretty easy installation for a handy person, and the fender seems both very lightweight and durable. If youre not handy youll be frustrated by the many small parts including some absolutely tiny Philips screws and should get a bike shop or handy friend to do the installation. Do the installation inside on a hard surface, since if you drop one of those tiny screws into grass or a carpet youll likely never see it again. Incidentally, pay careful attention to the description of what you are buying. Amazon lists multiple Planet Bike fenders and includes illustrations of both front and rear fenders. (I bought the 20" rear fender for recumbent bikes.) Be sure youre seeing "front" or "rear" in the description so you get what you intend. (Also be sure youre getting the size to match your wheel size.) After seeing the comment from the reviewer who expected a front and rear fender but got only the rear, I read very carefully to be sure I was getting the rear fender that I wanted. Misleading information The description of the part says "Freddy Fenders". Fenders with the "S" on the end means more than one. Since bicycles have two places for them, the foregone conclusion would be that you are buying 2 fenders, not 1. However, only one came in the box despite the photo attached to my confirmation which shows 2, along with the reviews provided which reference 2. Not a good buy simply due to horrible, vague description and questionable business tactics forcing you to hunt down and buy a front fender. Its got my back. My shirt back. I saw this on sale and bought one for my bmx. I dont ride in the rain, but even going through puddles and run off water my shirt back would get dirty. Yes its meant for a front mount on a recumbent but I was able to get it mounted as a rear fender on my bmx using the included mounting hardware. If youre handy you can probably get this to work on any bike with 20" tires. great product, great company I chose the 35 mm version of these fenders to put on my commuter, which I ride on 28 mm tires. I was looking for full coverage fenders to keep me and my frame from getting mucked up riding through the rainy Seattle winter. The support bar attachment points are very sturdy on the fender end, made entirely of metal, not plastic, and riveted to the fender. (Some older Mt. Zefal fenders I had before had plastic clips that broke after a few too many bumps to the fender.) The Nyloc nuts that secure the support bars to the fender attachment points can be readjusted as you get the fenders centered over your tires, but I imagine their built-in locking effect will wear off in the unlikely event you need to fuss with them more than several times---nothing some Loctite wouldnt fix, though. The mudflaps are flexible rubber and are very securely riveted to the ends of the fenders. Your pant legs and the folks riding behind you will thank you for the extra coverage. (I hate catching up to rainy day cyclists with partial or no fenders.) I try to be careful about my bike, but the fenders get bumped occasionally, and these hold up wonderfully to the abuse, flexing and springing back into place. Ive put the bus bike rack arm over the front fender without any problem, though I dont do that often. The fender surface is smooth and accepts stickers well, in case youre into reflective tape or other safety/decorative measures. Finally, I really dig Planet Bike for devoting 25% of their profits to bike advocacy. |
