I have not seen the new design but have had very serious problems with the older version of this rack. Very minor wear will alow the safety pin to work out and allow the rack to drop while you are driving. Mine has fallen three times. The last time we were driving down the express way at over 60 when the rack fell and the safety straps broke. Luckily, the rack dragged along the highway and the LWB recumbent rolled along on its rear wheel. Luckily neither the rack or the bike detached from the car and hit the car traveling behind us.
When I called Draftmaster they explained the problem to me but would not help in any way except suggest that I look in the McMaster Catalog for some better locking pins. They did sell me replacement straps for $40.
This is not a company I would recommend doing business with. They have taken no positive action to my knowledge on a known safety problem.
