Swagman Whee Rod Rear Bike Storage Carrier

Nice water proof carrier with room for most things you would carry on a bike. It mounts easily to almost any bike rack. But watch out for the the lid when it raises: In order to open it, and not hit the bike seat, it must be located 4-5 inches back of the bike seat. That wastes about a third of the length of your bike rack and forces you to mount the carrier so far back it overhangs the bike rack by about the same amount. Ideally it would mount flash to the bike seat, but with the current hinge design its impossible. I recommend a redesign by the manufacturer to hinge on the side (two side by side hinges in the center of the side with opposing snap locks near the corners). Then you could open it and still have it mount flash to the back of the bike seat.

I put it on the back of my Spooky Tooth Motorized Bicycle. The stickers peel off making it straight black. Easy to mount, even with limited space on my rack due to a seat extension for taller riders.

This bike trunk is awesome, i bought it for commuting it fits my extra change of clothes, my lunch and a water bottle with room to spare easily! No more backpack! it was easy to install even though my bike rack isnt standard. Its made of not very thick plastic with a little lock on it but i didnt buy it for storing valuables. I love this bike trunk it makes going to work soooo much better

grear bike carrier

I have had this carrier for a few weeks now and have had no problems with it. The carrier fit on my Schwinn Silver Creek with no modifications at all. I use it every day to haul my exercise bag to and from the gym and it does a good job. I also use it to carry groceries as my bike is the only transportation I have and it works fine. I have nothing bad to say about this carrier as it serves me very well for as much stuff I put in it. I am thinking about getting another one for my other bike too.

Well-designed, functional product; great for commuting

I ordered the Whee pod last week and received it in 2 days, even though I had SuperSaver shipping. Mounting it was EXTREMELY easy on my Kettler rear rack (standard configuration). This cargo box is sturdy yet not too heavy. I had looked at "trunk bags," but all except the "slide-on" type required velcro fasteners on the rack. I am commuting about 10 miles round-trip, one or two days a week, and this box will be great for my raingear, PDA, a clean shirt, etc. Also will be good for trips to the library or store. A VERY nice design. I know people will ask me (a) what it is and (b) where they can get one.

Great investment

Great product, especially for the price. Like other people, I had to make minor adjustments to secure the Swagman to my rack (Blackburn) but thats to be expected with a product that is designed for a universal fit. I use my bike for comuting and stuff a pair of sneakers, a uniform, a windbreaker & sweatshirt, a book and my lunch into it. The only caution I would say about the carrier would be that if you load it heavy, it will raise the center of gravity/tiping tendency of the bike when the kickstand is down.

So far, I have been pretty happy with this product. It is large enough for my helmet when parked, or my purse and u-lock when biking. The lock is a nice feature as I can lock up the small accessories on my bike so I dont have to take them with. I didnt give it 5 stars as the mounting was more difficult than I expected. It seems like some of the holes for use with the hardware were not spaced quite right, at least for my rack (rack that came with my Breezer bike). I did eventually get it mounted by attaching the rear hardware diagonally. Now that its mounted, I like that it doesnt move around as much as my old soft trunk bag did.

good product, I use it to lock my purse away, I found a front basket blocked my view of my front wheel making it hard to steer. The Wee pod solves this problem, allows me to put my weight on the back of my bike. fits well with my Townie rack. One minor problem was the holes drilled in the bottom of the carrier & the holes drilled for the brackets did not line up, so I could only mount to the center & front holes of the carrier & not the back as those holes did not line up. The sides of the carrier stick out a little on my back bike rack, so I cannot use panniers, but otherwise, it is a solid carrier, I needed something to carry my fairly large purse & camera gear.

This trunk mounted to my bike rack, no problems. It stores all of my books for school, and when I take them out, my helmet fits with room to spare. I havent had any water get in, even in the western Washington rainy season.

I have slammed it on the back of my hand a few times, but I think thats a human defect not a product defect.

Rear Bike trunk- Like the item - not that easy to install

This item fits my needs perfectly; the price was good, as I found similar items locally for almost twice the price. It was difficult to install, not because of any defect with this item, but because my bike rack was not really suited for it. A totally flat rack with no spring is the best. I had to get longer screws to make mine work.

A better way to carry stuff on a bike

Many bags and packs for bicycles are clumsy to use, have limited capacity, and offer no security. This hardshell locking case is convenient, weatherproof, has no zippers to jam, holds more that most soft packs, and provides a degree of theft-protection. It works for me!

I ordered the new item, but I received the item that was returned by someone else. Anyway, I like this carrier and it looks good on my bike, but it has two problems. The first is that it is not compatible for all types of rear racks. I have the quick release rear rack so I could not fit this carrier on my bike. Anyway I used the mechanical techniques and finally able to attach it with my rack. The second problem is that it can be stolen from the bike easily, if the rear rack other than the compatible one is used. It is hard to explain here that what kind of racks are compatible, but I highly recommend you to buy the rack that has few steel rods between them so that you can attach this carrier to your bike. Those racks that has two to three inches thick and rounded bar in the middle will not work with this carrier.
