![]() InStep Quick N Lite Bike Trailer (Red/Gold/Grey) By: InStep More Information Works as a dog trailer, and a grocery hauler too! I bought this trailer to tote around my dog, who is about 40 lbs. It was by far cheaper than the Burleys I saw elsewhere, but a side-by-side comparison with a coworkers didnt reveal any obvious differences that would account for the prices. To make it work for my pooch, I had to add a floor (corrugated plastic) with a cushion, held on by zip ties to the frame. I just connect the leash to one of the straps inside to keep him from running off, but that hasnt been an issue because he loves riding in it. And everyone we pass gets a kick out of seeing him in there! The trailer folds up very compactly. It fits into a compact car trunk well. I ended up using the little attachment strap for the stroller to hold the whole thing closed when folded up, since if you dont carry it right it can unfold on you. The best part about the trailer is that it has tons of room in the back for stuff. I use it around town to carry groceries and things. You wouldnt believe how much you can tote in this thing, and you hardly notice it. One issue, and the reason I took off a star: the mounting hardware did not fit on my bicycle since my bike (a Giant OCR1, 2005ish) had a very narrow area near the dropout. This is pretty unusual--my bike is more of a sports/low-end racing bike, not a neighborhood commuter. I contacted InStep about this and never heard back from them. So what I did was to make a little adapter block out of aluminum and buy a Bob tandem skewer from REI. Not a problem for me, since Im a mechanical engineer with access to a machine shop, but it might be a deal-killer for other people. great item We love this. Its the lightest one weve found out there. Its easy to attach/detach, and does its job. Love this item! We have had this item for about a month. It is wonderful! I hardly notice I am pulling anything on my bike. Only when I go up hills is there a slight pull. Both my kids fit in comfortably and love to go for rides. Go for the extra storage room. We were looking a the model below that did not have this option and it is worth the extra $. We have stashed items such as a full size diaper bag in this space. I cant imagine not having that extra space. We also love that it converts to a stroller.Great buy! Quick easy and convient!!! Love this product!! This is my second bike trailer, my first, I lost a piece that connects the wheels and so I could not use it. But this product connects so easily all three wheels just snap on and you go!! Thats it. The carriage is very spacious for my almost 5 year old and 2 year old. Easy to push, the swivel wheel helps to turn easier. Plenty of storage space. I am excited about getting out on the walking trails!! very bad buckle i love this bike trailer but why they made the buckle soooo hard. it takes me like 3 minutes to unbuckle my son and about two minutes to buckle him.also i like the fact that this trailer is not heavy. Exactly what was needed Its exactly what I needed. It was a little more expensive than others we were looking at, but for the very light construction, compactness after fold-down and easy of putting together were happy. Our other trailer has protection bars at the wheels and the wheels attach like a regular bike. I wish it had this setup. The wheels are quicker and easier to install and its narrower after its folded up since it doesnt have the wheel guards (which I think are useless anyways.) Good value, but has flaws I bought this after reading several reviews and watching other parents in the neighborhood towing their kids. My 20 month kid was excited to see the product and wanted to help me assemble the product. It was fairly simple to assemble, but I had difficulty reading the illustrations in the manual. I definitely think the manual needs a serious update with sharper pictures. Once it was all done, the real test was to put the kid and go for a ride. The first ride was not fun at all. The kid hated the harness and there was no cushion. The actual seat is not even firm and just hangs. We have a jogging stroller and the base for sitting the kid is so much better. If there is one area of serious improvement, it has to be the seat. We have only one kid at this stage and the trailer looks spacious, but for two kids, it looks like a snug fit. Not sure if two toddler kids will actually fit in comfortably. We are waiting for the second test ride with the kid and this time I am planning to use the cushion from the jogging stroller and see if that helps. Otherwise, you will soon see this item on Craigslist!! I compared this stroller to more expensive ones at REI and have come to the conclusion that you get what you pay! If you really cannot afford a more expensive stroller, get this and a good cushion so that kid can actually enjoy the ride. You can spend a lot more on bike trailers, but this one is functional and I believe safe. My only complaint is that because we keep it outside, the snaps for the cover have rusted and are hard to secure. A nice alternative to driving I use this trailer daily to cart my son and daughter to the elementary school about 3/4 mile from our home. It is a tight fit for a 3 year old and a 6 year old, but would work perfectly for two toddlers. The trailer is securely attached to the bike and does not feel unsafe-- either on smooth or bumpy roads. With two kids it is heavy and hills can be difficult, but it is a great workout! The only negatives are the safety harnesses, which are hard to clip. The kind that just slide together would have been much better than those clips. Also, after about two months of vigorous use, the snaps on the cover have come off. The cover can still be held closed, though, since it also attaches with a long, strong strip of velcro. Good product Our baby has a great time with other baby friends. We love it very much and we enjoy time on the bike with our baby. We just wish the floor was like one of those with hard material, you have to be careful when going cross-country! Good product Our baby has a great time with other baby friends. We love it very much and we enjoy time on the bike with our baby. We just wish the floor was like one of those with hard material, you have to be careful when going cross-country! Great trailer for the price I debated getting this product or the ibert safety seat (front carrier). Our first few trips with the quickn lite trailer seemed like a monumental effort, getting the trailer attached to bike, helmet on 13m.o., then buckled into the trailer. My baby was not happy about the helmet and this made the process of set up more difficult. I also found that the positioning of the seat pushed against the back of her helmet which then pushed the helmet down over her eyes! We remedied this by placing a short toss cushion that comes up to her shoulders behind her, this creates space for the posterior of her helmet. Now weve been riding all over and my baby and I love it! Im glad we have the trailer as it has lots of space for stuff including two big pumpkins when we visited the pumpkin patch recently. I have tried out the stroller conversion with 2 toddlers under 25 lbs each and found that it worked fine but definately not truly designed for this purpose. It is more useful in a pinch if you happen to be looking after a second kid and want to escape to the park but I would not recomend this option as an everyday double stroller. I found the strapping/seatbelt device to be a bit flimsy and cheap in its design and construction but it does the job. The general fabication and frame seem very sturdy. It is very easy to pull behind the bike. So far we have not used the trailer in bad weather or difficult terrain. Great product! This bicycle trailer is wonderful. We have used this to tow behind our bikes and for walking. It is very easy to pull and push. Another great plus is that it took me about 15 minutes to put it together. Good value for the $ Bought this one because it was the most reviewed... All the same I ride a lot on mountain bicycle. I have 2 kids, 3+ and 1+, they ride together, good for "clean roads not bumpy ones. the belts are not very comfortable but they are fine. I go on a weekly bases and the trailaer is great, we also use it as a stroler, the only problem is to get of and on from the pavemant cause the trailer is very low. Gr8 value for the money. quick, easy and light recieved this trailer yesterday and put it together myself very quickly. used it for the first time today and it was very light and feel "like towing a parachute," as have heard some say about bike trailers. I would recommend it. Easy to use Purchased this when I was looking for an inexpensive bike trailer for my 2 and 4 year olds. Very easy to put together. Kids slide together in the seat, but that is about the only negative comment I have. Pulls great behind my bike. Wouldnt recommend for smaller children that cannot sit up by themselves, but overall its great. Great product My husband and I decided that we want to start bicycling and take our 2 year old along for the rides. After much research and hmmming and haaaaing, we decided on this trailer. It has proven to be a fantastic purchase. We have taken it out only 5 times but weve only had it for a few weeks. I must say that I agree with all of the complaints about the seatbelts. They are quite a pain but my smart little one cant get out of it when shes in it...thats for sure. It was very easy to assemble. We have yet to use it as a stroller but for now, we truly like this product. Overall good product Overall, I love the trailer. It rides well, is very sturdy, and my children (11 months and 3 years) have plenty of room to enjoy the ride. However, I am very displeased with the clips. I was hoping they would be similar to the 5 point harness system used by Graco, but they are not. They are hard to undo and I dont feel my children are as safe as they would be with the 5 point system. Great trailer....got us back on our bikes. We are really happy with this trailer...we have 2 kids (2/4) and they both love to ride in it. Weve been taking it for evening rides and the kids even fall asleep. How great is that. Good materials, great storage behind the kids. The only thing I dont like is how it connects to the bike. I would like it to be easier to transfer from bike to bike rather than taking off the hub bolt. I would buy it again. I love it I really like this bike trailer, especially when I can open up the front but still have the mesh there to protect from bugs. However...I do not like the seat belt inside....They are just clips...NO buckles. and the belt that goes between the legs does not adjust. Still works great but the ease of the clips is not as good as it would be if they were buckles. Thought for the $$ they would have put something better in it. Seeing as the much cheaper model also has the same buckling system ITS GOOD I LIKE IT BUT ITS NOT THAT GREAT THEY SOULT HAVE PUT SOMETHING STERDY ON THE BOTTOM WERE THE KIDS FEET GO AND THE BELT SYSTEM SUCKS......OTHER THEN THAT ITS GOOD Good for the occassional ride This is a nice trailer. My son fits comfortably in it & it has flaps in case it rains. It easily can be removed, but is a little harder to mount back on. Its also hard to stand the bike up with the kick stand. My bike always falls over with the trailer attached. So Much Fun! I just bought this for my 19 month old son, and he adores it!! He really enjoys riding around the neighborhood and waving at passers by and I found that it is not nearly as difficult to pull as I thought it would be, you really dont notice the weight. It is a great buy! Awesome Easy to assemble. The price was great. My kids love it. The stroller feature is great. As in other reviews, the straps are a little difficult. I would still highly recommend this. Because of the design, its like your not even pulling any weight. It is great around corners and over rough spots. Great for the money I did a lot of research and decided to purchase this trailer after reading good reviews. We do light bike riding as a family and we wanted a way to be able to do this with our 20 month old daughter. We did not want to spend a ton of money for a high end trailer that we would barely use. I picked this trailer as it has a lighter frame then the lower model. I have been pleased with the trailer. It has quite a bit of storage and is very easy for me to pull behind my bike. My daughter likes seems to like it too. My only complaints are that the seat sags a bit as there is no reinforcement. Not really a problem just maybe not super comfy. Also, the clips are quite a pain. Instead of buckles the harness uses clips which are quite difficult to undo at times. I do recommend the trailer for someone who does light recreational bike riding and wants to bring kiddo along. Now, if I could only get her to be ok with the helmet! Good Not Great Seat: Hard to get baby to sit upright without sliding down Seat belt: Not great as baby can easily slip between the straps and become loose Back very upright which makes it almost impossible to make a helmet sit good on head a sit pushes the head forward in a very awkward position. We use it frequently and enjoy it despite the not perfect parts. In all a good value for its price. Exactly what we wanted! I did a lot of research before buying a bike trailer, and I am very happy with my purchase. I have two very active children, ages 3 and 1, who ride in this together. There is plenty of room for both of them, including ample leg room, a place to put their cups, and additional storage behind them if needed. The assembly was very straight-forward and simple (even for someone like me, who is NOT so mechanically inclined). It is quite simple and easy to attach and remove it from my bike, either when it is empty or with the kids inside it. The quality is perfect for our purpose, which is biking on streets and towpaths, and it is very sturdy. The trailer rides so smoothly and quietly that I hardly know it is there behind me except when I am starting off or going uphill, and even then it is much less drag for me than I expected. It folds down for storage quite handily. My only complaint is that the seat belts are a little bit difficult to get open, but once you get the knack of the clips its a bit easier. (Besides, if they were too easy to open the kids would be able to do it, which is the last thing you want.) Also, my one-year-old was a bit uncomfortable when I got the straps secure enough so that he couldnt wriggle out of them or slump over - but the solution was to put a pillow or folded blanket under his feet, and now he is so comfortable in there that he often falls asleep. Overall this was a great purchase for us. We needed something comfortable and of decent quality that was easy to use, and thats exactly what we got. And the best recommendation is from the kids - every time we ask them if they want to go for a bike ride, the answer is a resounding "yes!" We cant ask for better than that! Good price for an item that your kids may or may not like This is a nice item with real bike tires but real cheap safety belts making them almost unusable. My 4 year old likes sitting in the carrier but refuses to wear the uncomfortable safety belts and my 1 year old wont come near it. I should have purchased the carrier that goes on the front of the seat, but this is a nice trailer if you absolutely have to have one. Great trailer Nice and light and folds up easy. Rolls great and seems very durable. The straps are not the greatest design so I gave it a 4. Lite and easy We love it! With three girls always on the go this is a must have. It is awesome as a stroller. It is so lite they fit nicely with a little space between them. If they would be big boned girls it would be snug. The trunk in the back allows for plenty storage. It makes the bike ride a tad longer since the 5 year old is in with her 3 year old sister. Great drink storage too. It doubles as a doll holder. Just well worth it all around. Good trailer This is a very nice trailer works great for one kid. With 2 kids in the trailer they both slide to the middle of the seat and sometimes that doesnt work so well. But the trailer is light and very easy to pull. Completely Satisfied I love our new trailer! I bought it so I could put my kids in it down the shore and go to the park or supermarket. Its so easy and my kids love it! Great product - for the most part My son enjoys his bike trips and I am happy with my purchase of this light bike trailer. I would like to point out some nuances. I have a Columbia bike and it did not fit on the rear wheel the way it was supposed to. I had to move the rear fender. The seat belts are not so much belts but clips which I find time consuming to unlatch. You have to make sure you have al the straps tight or your kid will slump. This cart is wider than a door frame and would not fit for taking indoors. My son likes storing items in the side section. It has a small drainage hole in the bottom of the trailer which worked great when my son dropped his water. It drained out the water and aids in cleaning the inside out. Great bike trailer for a leisurely biker I looked at all of the reviews for this trailer before I bought and thought it was a good choice - especially since it was on sale. When I received it I didnt even need to bother with the instructions, it was very easy to set up. However I did look at the instructions for attaching it to my bike - the pictures included in the instructions for attaching the trailer were not clear at all and for a person fiddling around with bike parts for the first time, it took more effort than I had planned for. But once you get the latch on the bike, taking it on and off is a piece of cake. So, I got it on and could not be happier. My 18 month old loves it. I can ride my bike around my neighborhood in the evenings after work to get what little excercise I can fit in during the day. My neighborhood is hilly, but the ride is extremely smooth and there is tons of storage in the back of the seat if you ever want to take it to the supermarket. It folds down nice and compact and is very portable. The only downside I see to the bike is that there is only one lap strap which leaves a lot of room for movement if there is only 1 child in the trailer - this is the only reason why I gave it 4 stars. For long rides, this could be an issue for some folks. But I only ride it around my neighborhood and my son hardly moves around - he is enjoying the breeze and the scenery too much! So for the price, this was a great purchase in my book. Just Right I researched this purchase alot and I found the reviews to be helpful so I will add my insights. I have many years of biking experience and am a former bike mechanic. I would have recomended this trailer to my old customers. The trailer is well made. The welds are very good and the canopy fits tightly. You do need to adjust some straps to get it to fit spot-on but thats to be expected. This trailer is light and easy to fold up and store as well as unfold and get ready. The process to go from folded to ready to roll is about 4 minutes. The trailer is self explanitory so you dont need to haul the directions around to get it set up. The bike hook up is easy, however you need to balance the bike upright to do the hook up. Not a big deal and once the coupling is complete you can lay the bike down. I have two kids who will use the trailer. They are a tight fit inside as I expected. They are comfortable; they have good leg room and a spot for each of them to have cups etc. There is ample room behind them for storage too. The saftey straps are a real bugger. They are not a fastex buckle as you would expect. They are a snap-hook and a "D" ring hook for the shoulder straps. This is ok going on and a pain getting off. Not horrid but really annoying. The trailer tracks the bike very well. It does change the geometry of the bike though; so it will take some getting used to. The added weight really is a good workout. I have kept the speed down. I dont want to really be moving and need to do a quick manuver with it. You do need to be careful about clearance though. Keep in mind your footprint is three times larger than without the trailer. I have been sticking to pavement for now. I want to get my daughters comfortable with it before I go to dirt roads. I will have to do some adjusting of the tire pressure for off road so they dont bounce to death. Over all for the price you are getting more than your moneys worth. I will add to this review if I have an issue down the road. Lite weight, sturdy & price is right! We are very pleased with the design and would recommend the Quick-N-Lite. The product meets all my expectations... Well made, Easy to assemble, folds up easy for storage, a sinch to attach to my bike, User Friendly for my toddler daughter to climb in and out, Safe from roll-over. I went with the Quick-N-Lite over the Quick-N-Easy because the frame is aluminum (strength & lite weight, less chance of rust). The trailer is nicely engineered for rigidity and fit. There is storage behind the seat for packages, blankets toys, bread to feed the ducks, etc. Fact is, I am not sure what more higher costing model would offer without adding size, weight or un-needed frame around the wheels. Along with being well made, it is good looking. Just Right I researched this purchase alot and I found the reviews to be helpful so I will add my insights. The first is with the front wheel you use when using the trailer as a stroller. My wife used it twice and noticed one of the wheels was tilted.-The amazon picture shows one front wheel, there are actually two side-by-side- It ended up being more than tilted the axle was bent badly. I called InStep and they shipped a replacment out very quickly. I would really caution you not to load this up and use it as a stroller...the front wheel just cant handle it. The second issue is a trivial one yet it is an area that a design change could be made. The floor of the trailer is fabric. When rolling your child needs to keep their feet on the front frame bar. If they do not they can push the fabric down so it rubs along the ground. My daughter did this for a short trip and one area is now very worn. It would not take long to get a hole. A plastic tray or a rub pad on the bottom could solve this. So far asking them to keep their feet on the bar has sufficed....just keep it in mind. I would rate this as my best buy of the year and one I wish I done three years ago. Ill update this again if an issue crops up. Its worth your money. You wil not think twice of putting your beloved kids in this trailer. Its quite tough, so, riding through slightly uneven mud track will not be a problem. The best thing is,the trailers really light. So carrying/towing the trailer will not burn much energy.I have to put extra hours riding now because my kids love to be in the trailer. Great I bought this product for my 1 year old and 3 year old. There is plenty of room for both children and toys. There is a lot of room behind them for storage. You can not see them when you are using this as a stroller. The straps are hard to unbuckle and the instructions that come with it a very vague. There are parts that I didnt know what to do with. Other than the previous comments it is a great product. It rides very smooth and takes bumps really well. It doesnt tip over when your bike does. My children really love it too. InStep - Truly Quick & Light! I bought this trailer to take my three year old daughter on short bike trips. She has so much fun! Its easy to set up and take down - as well as attach to a bike. I also love the ability to convert to a stroller as Ive used it for my older kids soccer games - we just load the wee one in, put snacks and other soccer gear in the back (theres an immense amount of storage) and off we go. Its easy for her to get in and out of on her own - and has kept her quite warm and toasty when its been freezing outside. I definitely recommend this product! Durable and easy to use I love this trailer. When I started looking for a trailer, I saw how expensive some of the other brands were like Burley and Chariot. I thought I would have to spend a lot of money to get a decent one. But talking to women in my bike club, I got many recommendations for Instep because you can get them at a reasonable price and they are durable. So I bought this one, and it was very easy to put together. No tools are needed. I love how its not a pain in the rear to use! It attaches to the bike very easily. I also bought a second coupler through instep for my husbands bike. So we can easily switch trailer from bike to bike even mid-ride if we ever needed to. It collapses almost completetely for storage which is another nice thing. My son who is 15 months old and almost 30 lbs uses it and seems to be comfortable since he loves riding in it. Excellent product for the money I live in san francisco and we bike everywhere so Id been trying to find a new bike trailer for my 2.5 yo daughter who outgrew her front mounted baby seat. Everywhere I went the trailers were priced at $250 plus. I was a bit skeptical about buying this Instep because it was a "no name" brand (wrong - it turns out that its made by Schwinn) although it was priced at about half the price on others. When I research the product I found it to be lighter than the pricier brands. It runs smooth, easy to attach/detach. I keep the stroller front wheels always mounted so that I my daughter falls asleep and i wnt to walk around shes can continue sleeping. I recently did grocery shopping with the trailer and my daughter. It has a rear compartment that fit 3 traderjoes paper shopping bags, an additional bag in the front with my daughter, and one more on the rear basket that is mounted on my bike. Ive also taken my daughter an another of her friends (it sits two kids) and they loved it. Overall, a very good product - although not a sleek and cute as others like the burley - but its lighter, and priced much below comparable products. Works like a charm! I love our new bike trailer. We try to take it out every weekend. My daughter loves to ride in it on our rides. It also holds so much in the storage compartment I was surprised. This was a great investment! |
