The best advice in the included manual is to carry a backup light. Ill go one better and recommend that you get a great backup and forget about this shabby product altogether. I was a loyal Niterider customer for over 10 years until I got this product. The first one had problems holding a good enough charge for more than an hour. Niterider honors its warranties but after the year is up theyre done having to deal with you. The second one lived just long enough to make it past the warranty period and now gives no light at all. The auxillery light and features that uses it (like daytime flash) are far too feable for road use. When the light was working it burned brightly as advertised. When you hit bumps or rough pavement it can flicker and go a shade of blue for a moment. Sometimes it will shut off for no reason and I would have to unplug the light from the battery for a few moments before carrying on. Not fun and definitely not safe. If you go with Niterider look at their excellent Digital-Pro series which integrates much better with the taillight system. That stuff was designed before Niterider lost the plot.
