![]() Mongoose Domain Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike By: Mongoose Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 10 More Information COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY Recently I purchased a Mongoose Domain Duel Suspension bike from Amazon. Although many of the reviews I read discussed how difficult a bike this was to assemble, I bought it anyway. Assembly was a breeze. The bike needed a few adjustments and, following the manual to a tee, I made all of the necessary adjustments, including aligning the rear derailleur. The second day out, the rear derailleur snagged the spokes of the rear wheel and, just like that, the bike was totaled with less than three miles on it. I called Pacific Cycle and was told to send photos and a description of the event. I was assured that I would receive a quick response within the next 48 hours. Nothing. Five days later I resent the email. Nothing. Four days later a received a response via email titled "bike". The letter simply indicated that I did not properly adjust the bike and therefore they were not responsible. When I tried to contact the warranty department by phone I received no response. Never have I been more disgusted with a company. If you need more junk cluttering up your garage, then this is the bike for you. mongoose domain The bike did not come in perfect condition. One of the forks had a 2.5 in scratch on it. The seat was slightly torn. The large gear would not go into 3rd gear. I had to adjust the bike. The bike does ride well. bike If I can figure out how to put the thing together it would probably be nice A Tad Dissapointed Overall, I was pleased with the time frame that I received this bike. The bike, however, arrived with damage. The decals were scratched off in a few places and the scratches were deep enough to damage the aluminum under the decals. Not sure how that happened because the box was not damaged. By the time that we opened the box it was too late to return and get another one for Christmas so we just kept the bike anyway. Perfect for the price! considering that my next-door bike shop was selling something similiar for over 350$, I suppose this a great bargain. If youre not a pro I think youll like the bike as well since it does exactly what its supposed to. Assemblying was super easy and I was using the bike just 1/2 hour after receiving, even if instructions are not provided. Anyway remember this is a cheap bike so you might consider having it checked at your local bike shop to get brakes and gears tuned up -it usually takes 1 hour of labor-. Perfectly adequate given the price. I am amazed at the reviews given, not for just this bike, but for any cheap item on Amazon or elsewhere. What exactly do people expect when they are paying so little money? I just received this bike today and Im quite satisfied with this purchase, given that I only paid less than one hundred dollars for this bike during a recent Gold Box deal. In reading many reviews of bikes purchased through Amazon, I was quite apprehensive of the assembly needed once I received delivery of the bike. But it turned out that indeed most of the bike was already pre-assembled. Id say probably over 80% of the bike is already assembled. You only need to place the front tire on and then tighten the front handle bars. Lastly, attach on the foot pedals and thats about it. It took us about 40 minutes to install and Im by no means adept with assembling bikes. Are their bikes out there which are better than this one? Of course. Can Mongoose improve on this bike? Absolutely. Can you use this for serious or professional outdoor mountain biking? Probably not. Do I plan to do that? No. If I did, Id cough up $1000 and purchase a more serious bike to do that. Do I think this bike is worth the one hundred dollars I paid for it? ABSOLUTELY! Would I purchase it again for one hundred dollars? ABSOLUTELY. For the money, I think its a great recreational bike. I will use this bike probably 5 times a week for about an hour or two at most riding around the neighborhood and nearby bike trails. So for me, its more than adequate. I dont need anything more expensive currently. All in all, Im quite satisfied with the bike for the money. I wholeheartedly give it 5 stars given the price I paid--less than one hundred dollars. I do have one concern with this bike. I havent been able to raise the front handle bars to a higher level. I have to lean/hunch down too far to ride it as of now. I need to get this fixed and it should be a very nice ride given the amount I paid. This has more to do with me figuring out how to raise the handle bar than the design of the bike. Im certain its possible to raise the handle bar, but I havent figured it out just yet. Perfectly adequate given the price. The ride quality is average. It is good for just getting around town. I would not go mountain biking with this bike. Good bike to buy on sale. Not the best This bike is kind of hard to put together. Need to be an engineer to assemble! I purchased this bike a short time ago. I have been trying to assemble it for 3 days now. The pictures do not look anything like the bike. After I finally assembled it (on pure instinct), the front brake was difficult to adjust - but I managed. The back brake is broken and needs to be replaced - I think. The shifting unit was not factory assembled properly. I had to take the shifting unit apart, as well as take the back tire off of the bike, and re-assemble it for it to even function. Now that it is functioning, I am trying to adjust it to shift properly. I guess that was too much to ask, because it is still not working properly. However, the bike looks awesome. I cant wait to finally be able to ride it....although it will probably be snowing by then..... Happy but not happy by: Anonymous On: 2007-05-04 Well i loved the bike at first. I was able to put it togehter easy enough and loved it for the first month. I rode it about ten miles a day for the past 4 to 5 months. The brakes are very difficult to keep adjusted and and also the gear shifter. The rear tire keeps coming loose from baering house and the bike is very heavy. I thought by buying a bike for a little bit more money than a k-mart or walmart would of done me good but in all i should of spent the money on a hi end bike for what i needed. So if you need a weekend warrior this is the bike for you. Amazon has always been the best internet shopping site. Please dont refer the rating of mongoose products to any afliates of amazon. For Near Bike Mechanics Only. Do Not Ride at Night! by: bsalita On: 2007-02-13 Assembly of this bike is difficult unless you are a near bike mechanic. Im not a bike mechanic by any means. Took me 10 hours to assemble this bike. If you buy this bike, calculate an extra cost for having a bike shop complete or inspect the final assembly. The actual bike itself seems good. The documentation contains detailed and obnoxious legal language disclaiming all sorts of liabilities and warnings such as "Do not ride at night". So dont buy this bike if you will ever ride it at night. Thought Id help out the marketing department by putting this important restriction in the review title. These legal disclaimers are all quite ironic as the assembly manual received is for the wrong bike. Theres a legal quandary. Had the manual shown just a couple key photos of the final assembly, it would have saved me hours of time. The bike was received in a damaged box. Most of the packing ties were busted out. In conclusion, this purchase was a bad customer experience. Mongoose needs to pay as much attention to delivering a quality customer experience as they do in providing detailed legal disclaimers.
