![]() Shimano SH-RT50 Road Cycling Shoe By: Shimano Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 2 More Information a good, all-purpose cycling shoe The Shimano SH-RT50 Road Cycling Shoe is a good all-purpose cycling shoe. It has a recessed cleat to allow easy walking around, unlike most hard-core road shoes with a protruding cleat. However, the sole is smooth, unlike most mountain bike shoes. This makes it lighter and easier to walk around on indoor surfaces and non-rugged outdoor surfaces. Keep in mind that the smooth sole is not appropriate for technical mountain biking on rough/muddy trails. I wore a similar pair of Shimano shoes for about ten years, and recently replaced them with these new ones & I am quite happy with them. Ideal shoe for my purposes Ive been wearing this shoe while riding on the road for more than a year, with complete satisfaction. So far as I know it is the ONLY shoe designed specifically for road-riding with SPD pedals. Most people use mountain-bike shoes with SPDs on the road, but those tend to be heavier, and the lugs track dirt and mud into the house, restaurant, wherever. This shoe has a stiff, flat, non-lugged sole that works just fine. Its comfortable walking around in, certainly more so than road-pedal shoes designed for Look-type pedals. I wouldnt go hiking in them, but thats just about the only limitation. When mine wear out Ill buy another pair, unless some other manufacturer wises up to the fact that a sizable percentage of SPD pedals are used on road bikes exclusively!
